There was a chance for that call to be overturned was there not? The booth reviews all TDs and especially in the last 2 min. The booth isnt replacement refs are they? They arent the only team that has been affected. Just because this was a call at the end of the game doesnt mean its any more important than any other blown call. What about the blown calls where people got hurt? Those couldve had the same negative effect on the outcome of the game. Sick of people saying this blown call was more important than the other ones. If anything the helmet to helmet Hayward-Bey call that wasnt called was more important than this touchdown. Dude was knocked out, for a good awhile. Couldve been paralyzed and never played football again.
Close, but no cigar.
The booth was limited in their review because the call on the field was a touchdown. The review needed to inconclusively prove that the Seattle player didn't have possession (which about 80% of people who watched it apparently believe was there, but that's besides the point). The replay officials (who are not replacement, you are correct) were still hindered by replacement officials calling the play incorrectly on the field. Their review was right, since they deemed the replay inconclusive (and it's kind of hard to argue with that), but the scab refs called the play a touchdown, AND THEY DID IT BY MISTAKE!
Did you happen to notice how the TD call was made? Official #1 walks over doing the typical "hands over the head blowing the whistle to end the play" thing that all refs do on every play. Official #2 walked over and thought Official #1 was calling it a TD, so Official #2 herp derped and called a TD. Official #1 gave him a "...wtf?" look, then did the same.

Jesus-Christ-on-a-crutch, yes it does! It literally decided the outcome of a game. That play matters more than any other play in the game. I played football for over a decade, and the company line that "every play is as important as the next" is horsesh*t. That play decided the outcome of a regular season NFL game. It was called horribly and is the reason a team lost. If Green Bay misses the playoffs by a game, you think that play doesn't matter still?
And you're wrong about the DHB hit. That hit happens with or without a call, DHB is still layed up in a hospital bed and he's still seeing stars. The missed call was embarrassing, absolutely, but it didn't change the game. DHB was hurt with or without a penalty. The Packers lost because of a non-call (on Tate) and a TD call (that was a mistake).
I have no dog in this fight, I couldn't care less about the NFC, but to act like that play was just another play that the scab refs missed is just flat out wrong.
and quack the packers. seahawks defense destroyed. not the only team in the NFL that has been affected by bad/no calls.
Not sure you can compare a bad PI call in the 2nd quarter to a missed call that dictated the outcome of the game. They're not the only team impacted by a bad call, they're the only team to have a win turned into a loss by one, though.
The play was horribly called, and awfully handled, no doubt. The way the Packers are carrying on about it though is so stupid. Give me a break. The point is, they aren't the only team dealing with horrible officiating this season, and they aren't the first team in the history of the nfl to lose a game because of a bad call. Get over it, and move on.

Just because I think you're precious when you get fired up...
A case could be made that the defensive player was more willing to go for that hit because of the loose nature of some of the replacement refs in the games. For evidence of this, look at the amount of pushing and shoving that has been going on consistently during games this year so far. Penalty flags have been few and far between on these mini-brawls. Some (or most) players will do everything that they can get away with. You allow some shenanigans and eventually someone will take it upon themselves to go one step further and get rough with a hit because the potential of negative consequences has gone down.

I know, and I've acknowledged that every team is dealing with these awful calls, to the point it mostly evens out.
The reason that this game sticks out is because a) it is absolutely obvious that the refs crumbled under the pressure of the most rabid fan base in the league, and b) there were a string of 3 horrific calls, inexcusable calls, that led to that game being taken away from GB. So, while most teams have a back-and-forth with the bad calls, it was piling up against GB even before that final drive....then the final drive happened.
I'm not delusional, I know that the refs are so bad that teams are able to gameplan towards the bad calls they know they can get (teams are literally chucking passes they know receivers won't catch just to get a PI called), but this game was easily the worst. The calls weren't just bad, they defined the outcome of an NFL game, I can't agree that the way the last play was officiated is just another play stacked up with the other bad calls. If you want to say that about the roughing the passer, or the PI (that should've been called on Sidney Rice)? Sure. But not the last play, the refs made a quick call to run away and get out of the situation, and it handcuffed the repay official and compromised the outcome of a game.
Let's put it this way, if those were real refs every person in the country would be asking if they had money on the game.
And Dave, I hate/you.
Edit: Sorry, hit 'Enter' too quickly. I've actually made that argument (that the scab refs enable the dirty/physical hits), but that's stretching it, even for me. You'd have to look at them on a case-by-case basis and I'm not sure you can really get into the heads of a player and determine their intent.

Pats will make the playoffs. Win the East. I hope they win it all. I think there's still potential for more than this year. But every time we play the Giants we're quacked. And there's Baltimore that can't be taken for granted.
Edit: and if the rumors of the refs lockout ending are true, looks like I don't need to plan that boycott for Week 5. Maybe the owners aren't as ignorant as we thought. I figured it would have taken much more damage (mostly monetary) to end this.

Thats how most of the blown calls are made. I understand that because that was the last play of the game it had an immediate result on the game but every blown call in one way or another effects the outcome of the game. A blown roughing the kicker call can also have an effect on the outcome and it could happen in the fist quarter

Hit happens with or without the call, but the penalties, monetary loss, and fear of future repercussions dont happen without the call
And clearly you aren't a rapist (I hope) but the way you pop into any thread where a woman happens to be lamenting her lack of ride to Bonnaroo and tell them to come hop on your bus sounds extremely rapey.

I understand this logic, and it's not unreasonable, but plays matter more in certain situations. If a roughing the punter call was incorrectly given while a punter is inside own endzone, but the team still ends up punting despite the automatic first down, that bad call didn't hurt the opponent. But a missed call resulting in 6 points with time expiring and a call being made on the field that in effect makes it impossible for the call to be overturned? That doesn't just hurt the opponent, it kills them, in a sense.

I'm afriad this isn't true. Players have been fined many times without drawing a penalty flag. That hit will absolutely draw a fine, hell Laron Landry got fined for a hit and he didn't even make contact with the guys head! To put it another way, certain penalties dictate that fines are issued, but not all fines have to have a penalty called in order to be issued....if that makes sense.

The NFL is a brand, so they're much more than just dollars and cents. Your brand is only as good as it's perceived, and the NFL was being perceived as a joke league that doesn't care about the quality of play. While the lagging monetary impact hadn't yet reached the owners (at least not all, crappy teams are already no-showing games), they knew it was coming.
Legitimate LOL at people who don't think Packers didn't lose that game DIRECTLY because of the refs.
It doesn't matter that GB's offense was horrible the first half. It doesn't matter Seattle's defense dominated the first half. At most, Seattle should've had 7 points. And that's debatable. Once again, a very obvious holding call against Clay Matthews wasn't called on a play that allowed Wilson to convert a 3rd down on a drive that lead to Golden Tate's touchdown. It would've made it something like 3rd and 14, and given Seattle's passing attack this year, I think it's safe to say there's a better chance it wouldn't have been converted than it would.
And besides, it doesn't f*cking matter if the Packers didn't play well. I don't give a sh*t if they dominated for 60 minutes or got outplayed for 60 minutes, if the referees hand a team a win it's an absolute joke. I would've thought even Bears, Lions, and Falcons fans could admit to that.
You can't say that there is one single reason a team lost a game that had 100 or so plays in it. Yeah, the Packers got screwed on that play, but you also were over whelmed by Seattle's D and that had a much larger part to do with it. My beef is how the media and Packer fans are crying about it. It had been turned into a way bigger deal than it is.
PMO, as a completely objective observer, it's a big deal. The call was laughable. I could care less about the Packers or Seahawks...and that call to end the game was maybe the worst I've seen in my life. On top of the fact that the referees were already effing things up, this is just the cherry on top. The straw that broke the camel's back if you will. It's embarrassing for the NFL and it upsets me that the league won't pay up what will be less than 1% of the league's revenues to get real referees. It's a damn shame.
I agree that the refs should get what they are asking for, but all this talk about ”ruining the integrity of the game.” Is complete nonsense. I love how they said the same exact thing when the real officials were cracking down on late/violent hits. It's not a big deal. You know that the replacement officials are going to be inconsistent with their calls, that just has to be worked into the strategy of your game plan until this situation gets settled.

Honestly, I'm just sick of hearing about that one single call whenever I watch ESPN or listen to ESPN radio. I agree it determined the outcome of the game but so does every bad/no call. I don't understand how surprised/outraged people are since this season (and this game..on both sides) has been full of them. It's week 3, not a playoff game.
and that is definitely not the worst call of all time as I have heard it referred to multiple times.
There is nothing better than watching a show that features children and professional athletes swallowing and splashing an 8 year old's wet dream ejaculations all over their faces.
Why do so many NFL coaches have no balls? Ron Rivera has a 6'5" 245 lb quarterback and a 4th and 1 where a first down seals the game, but instead he elects to put his sh*tty defense on the field one more time to try to stop a very good offense. I wanted Carolina to win, but they deserved that.
give the ball to matt ryan on the 50 yard line and the game is over. pin him inside the 1 and you should be able to put it away. Not a bad decision but I probably would have went for it as well.
I just hate coaches playing to not lose as opposed to playing to win, which happens all the time. If Carolina wants to compete for the division (of course they won't, but I'm sure the coaches and players legitimately believe they can), this is a game that was absolutely a must-win, but instead they played it safe and by the book and it cost them.

You jumped back on that football wagon pretty quick huh? No toddler tantrums this week?
Edit: Hope fully this didn't come off wrong. Not a shot. I once made an entire bar feel uncomfortable when the Bears lost the Super Bowl. Then again, when we lost the NFC Championship to Green Bay. Same bar.

Wow, and the real refs almost took the game away from the Eagles tonight with 3 questionable interference calls. As we said last week, it is not always greener on the other side.
There was a blown call on a fumble during the Packers/Saints game. It got ruled down by contact though it was obvious on the replay that this wasn't true. Unfortunately for them, the Packers had already used both their challenges. The crowd sounded like they were going to riot for a minute.
