i think maybe they want to avoid people running around from show to show? people taking up space at a show only to stay there for 15 min. this would cut that out. it's good for us, because we always pick a show and stay there.

Exactly. For a show they are using to peak interest while we wait for the lineup, I highly highly doubt it's going to be an act that tours constantly and has played every festival known to man. And it certainly won't be an act that headlined just last year.
I'm not saying it will be a big show, but I do fully expect it to at least be somewhat unique. I will be extremely suprised if it's Passion Pit, Hot Chip (who was discussed earlier in this thread), or really anything of that type.

Also, bands don't play festivals all the time because of prior commitments. If the band is booked elsewhere already, Moog will just find someone else similar to fit into the bill. Moog isn't going to go out of their way to book a standard synth pop act on Thursday night because they just have to have them this year!
For some people that likely would "blow the roof off", whatever the hell that even means.
How have we not yet established that Ashley Capps is the king of hyperbole? Blow the roof off could mean anything from a really rare get to an act that is really really loud.

Oh man we have some ABSOLUTELY INSANE ADDITIONS to Bonnaroo coming this week!!!!111
3 days later: Rodrigo y Gabriela and Van Halen Unchained added to Bonnaroo lineup!
Feel like this is pretty much how most AC-related developments unfold.

But it isn't really part of the fest lineup, is it? It's a separate show. They said it would appeal to the Moog crowd, maybe because it's someone who's already played the fest.

Fair enough, it certainly could be. We really have no idea at this point, but just with the way they are handling it it seems like it will something a little different.

Yeah, I was just about to say have we not all learned by now not to get caught up in AC hype announcements? I guess the D'Angelo thing delivered, but very rarely do the actual results match the promise made.

They really are prone to hyperbole. I have a friend who just started working for AC as a poster designer this week. I doubt she'll really be able to find out much beforehand, at least in the near future, but it's worth a shot. I'll tell her to keep her eyes and ears open for anything!

Depending on how the whole lineup works out, I think I will be trying to go. I go to school at Elon so its only a couple hour drive (much better compared to the 17 we drive for roo)
Do ya'll have any other hotel recommendations if Downtown Inn fills up?

I just saw Dolby w/ his current band a few months ago... it was very good, but not as great as the show I saw in 2006... on that tour he performed solo, wore a camera on his head, and projected the image on a large screen behind him. For a gear-geek / musician, such as myself, this was absolute heaven to watch/listen to.

There are a bunch of hotels on Tunnel Road. The ones inside 240 are a little more expensive. I was at a Days Inn off I-40 x55 last year, was about 10-15 minutes drive from downtown - fairly cheap and nice if you don't mind being a little bit outside the city.

I've stayed the past 2 years outside of downtown. There is a nice hotel that is just ~10 min walk to downtown that is quite safe and easy. I mean, you are in downtown in 5 minutes and center of downtown in 10. It was just north of downtown, probably a Holiday Inn or something like that. Last year we stayed ~10 min drive from downtown and just cabbed. Cabbing was better than walking for late at night, though you can walk in and cab out, of course. Downtown places always book super fast and are priced accordingly, of course. There is a cheap hostel downtown, but I saw someone post on fb they already booked the last open cot.
LowerDeck's post just reminded me the hotel within walking distance was on Tunnel Road. It is literally just outside of what I would consider "downtown".
On further review, it was the Holiday Inn on Tunnel Rd, EAST of downtown, not north.
