I was lucky enough to see The Word in Boston when they first came around back in 2001. Still one of my favorite shows ever. Psychedelic gospel. Can't beat it.

The 05 set was one of my all-time favorites. I love how their music together is so different from the music that they play separately. I saw in another thread someone complain that some of the songs were "slow." But this is sacred steel. It's not a typical Robert Randolph show, or a Medeski show, or an NMA show. What they do together is unique and wonderful. It's one of my can't-miss sets.

It will be great to hear Robert Randolph wail away on the steel guitar again and Medeski is a great collaborater. He jammed out with Antibalas at a show last year and it was awesome. Can't wait for this one!
As a fan of Randolph and North Mississippi Allstars, I decided to cave in and buy the Word album because it's impossible to find their music on any site (Spotify, YouTube, etc).
Man. I'm super excited for this! I hope they get a 2:00 AM - sunrise set! Now I'm just hoping I can see Big Freedia, Major Lazer, AND the Word without conflicts on Friday night.

Agreed, I'm terrified of a Roots Which LN Friday screwing up my whole flow.
I feel like this set is being overshadowed by Major Lazer and Black Star in a huge way. While I enjoy Black Star and Major Lazer, The Word is one set I just can't miss. Saying I'm excited for this show is an understatement.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Damn. If I could make one change to the schedule, it would be to reverse the order of acts in the Other Tent on Friday night. I thought The Word promised us a sunrise set
How "gospel" do these guys get? I really don't want to be preached to about god and jesus during their set. A little bit I can stand but if it's every other song, it will get on my nerves. No offense to anyone that would enjoy that, it's just that I wouldn't and if it's going to be like that I'd prefer to know ahead of time so that I can see someone else.
Definitely NOT gospel in the way that you are envisioning it. Think funk meets steel guitar meets organ, and they have a baby. That baby is The Word.

Really looking forward to this one - if Radiohead plays longer than the allotted 2 hours though I'll be torn between staying or hiking it to The Word.....
I just saw a couple of tweets that say Chris Chew is in the hospital in Portland. Hope that turns out OK. Can't find any info about how the Bonnaroo set might be affected...
