The thing that frustrates me about Obama is that he takes it like a biznatch. He gets quacked over and over and continues to kiss right wing ass to appease them.
What I think the logic behind his strategy in terms of working with the GOP:
He had the Democratic congress and rather than use it to pummel the GOP, in the interest of saving the country from spiraling into another great depression, he tried to appease both sides and be as moderate as he could without losing his liberal base. I can't fault him for how he handled things early (rather than force-feeding legislation down the GOP's throat, and in the process giving the tea party more ammunition against him, he tried to work hand-in-hand).
Then he went for his home run with the Obamacare. Every President dreams of leaving their mark in a huge piece of legislation like this, and Obama worked his ass off to get it done. It isn't a final product, not by a long shot, but the hardest part is over. And regardless of your political views of the guy, to get that legislation passed is remarkable, given the adversarial nature of congress and the divisive nature of the legislation.
Then they lost congress. And instead of the GOP working at least partially with Democrats, they became the Party Of No. It's sad, because there are some brilliant people that simply have no voice because they're not speaking in extremes in every interview. They're drowned out by the "extremists" (for lack of a better word) and their ideas are usually lost in the shuffle. Or because they aren't conservative/liberal enough, the ideas get scrapped. And the constant "well, we won't give you something without getting much more in return" BS is so frustrating. And these comments are general because both sides pull the same stunts.
I feel for Obama, because I think he was genuinely naive to how deadlocked Congress could become. He had great plans for a country that literally collapsed around him as he walked into office. Think about that, he walked into the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression. It's miraculous he's gotten anything done at all. Obama basically has the worst congress in the history of this country (and that goes for both sides of the aisle), doing their best to do nothing. That's the best way I can put it. The GOP is doing nothing in hopes things get worse and they can unseat the man in charge. Dems are doing nothing in hopes that things continue to incrementally get better and they can say "hey, without us things would've been much worse" for the campaign trails.
A Congress of Nothing.
That's not Obama's fault, but he'll take the fall for it if the GOP ever gets its act together and finds a worthy candidate, which I doubt.

What frustrates me to no end, is that alot of his legislation could have, and would have, passed the senate- if it weren't for this "super majority" rule. This senate has been using the fillibuster at unprecedented rates. You're only supposed to need a simple majority to pass anything (51 votes). But they block every piece of legislation, and it takes 60 votes to pass a fillibuster. A fillibuster is SUPPOSED to mean the senators have to continue a debate day and night to block a vote, but these days all that's required for a fillibuster is a simple threat. This has choked the entire system and made it nearly impossible to pass anything at all.
Fuck this congress. I'm losing faith in our entire system

for the record my lol was about Ron Paul's electability. he won't get the nomination, and he wouldn't beat obama. you crazy ron paul guys sure are cute. i just want to wrap yall up in a blanket and make some hot chocolate with those little marshmellows

For the record, I DO NOT think Ron Paul could be elected president.
But if you asked me 8 years ago if a black guy with a name like "Barack Obama" could be elected president, I would've said that was even more unlikely.
Paul has a huge grassroots base, and he appeals to alot of people, liberal and conservative alike. I don't think there's any way 2012 will be his year, but who knows, maybe in 4-8 years the country will be ready for someone like him. Who knows?

Try to find me an educated liberal, the American meaning, that thinks Ron Paul is a better candidate than Ron Paul. RP is not an "American" liberal. RP is not a dem and he is not a rep. That is why he and his kind will not win any pres election or major party nomination ever.
Also RP is either racist or incompetent, so either way he's a shit candidate.
It was only a matter of time before the whole racism thing came out as a major issue.
Media just sat back and waited till he got to the top, then start the character assassination. Powers that be can't handle someone who isn't a corporate puppet - so clearly RP must be taken down a peg in favor of Romney or Gingrich.
Are Presidential Elections won by the independent vote, the moderate/middle vote? I see RP already having a big chunk of that. If Republican's wake and realize that Newt, Rommey, Perry, Bachman, or what ever clowns come out of that car, are not the answer to beat Obama, if they do that and elect RP, he will beat Obama. I agree RP has some different views, abolish the IRS? What? and some controversial ones, but I will say, when it benefits a mother to have another baby, another baby equals more money, when that thought enters a mother's mind, then the system is flawed and needs to be fixed. Out of all the candidates, when RP speaks he is the only one I find believable. I do not agree with RP on everything, but I know where he stands. Congress may have been Obama's down fall, but like you say it Laggy, Dude, you found bin laden, but where is your Balls?! I think this country could benefit from universal health care, which would seem like it would require a raise in taxes, and I am okay with that, and if the majority wants that, than I am okay with that, but I am not a fan of having it rushed down my throat before we can see what is in it. Pelosi lost me when she said,"We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it." Seriously?! I think she has bigger balls than Obama, because that was a ballsy comment. Either way, RP is a racist or at least they will paint him as one. meh, in 2007 we had a choice, it was between skin color and sex, looks like US choose skin color, maybe we should have went with sex, at least we already knew Hillary was a bitch!

As I said in my rundown on the Paul platform over at Vice, reasonable fans of Dr. Paul now must accept that there's no way Paul could have been ignorant of the content [of] 8-12 page newsletters published under his name for over ten years. Paul supporters face three losing propositions:
• He lacks the competency to control content published under his own name for over a decade, and is thus unfit to lead a country. • He doesn't believe these things but considers them a useful political tool to motivate racist whites, which makes him fit to be a GOP candidate, but too obvious about it to win. • He's actually a racist, which makes him unfit to be a human being.
I mean the newsletters were bound to come up if he started gaining any traction. I agree completely with that rundown however. If you let hate speech be published under your name for 10 years you are going to get asked for it if you are seriously running for president.
What you called her. I'm guessing you're probably joking, but c'moooon man.
I was half joking, but the truth is she does come off to me as a cold and bitchy sometimes. The real reason I didn't favor her as the candidate was more on policy issues. She is TOO washington. And too center/moderate. I was naive enough to think Obama could make change washington back in 2008. LOL.
But she seems like a strong individual. I really can't imagine she would've put up with so much bullshit from the right. I think she would've fought back harder from the beginning.
I will be happily voting for Obama again. His presidency hasn't been perfect but I still feel he is the best guy for the job. Plus other then a handful of things their really isn't much I strongly disagree with him on.

And I am not responsible for Rick Perry being elected Governor here, I thought there would be no way he would win another term after the secession threat. I underestimated my fellow Texans.

I will happily vote Obama again although much of the Hope of 2008 has dissipated. But I think that the focus will be on what happens in Congress. You would think that there has to be wholesale changes in the incumbents after their illustrious record this session. I'm Hopeful of a backlash against the douchebags who have turned people's lives into collateral damage.
GOP voters have the gall to complain about the economy when Shrub took over and blew a $236.2 BILLION dollar budget surplus then left the country in shambles. They expected change to occur overnight, yet the worthless members of Congress whom THEY elected have done less than nothing to put the country back on track.
I'm not saying the Dems are beyond reproach, but I'll be damned if I'll listen to some whiny-assed conservative politician moaning about taxes when their piles of dirty money have a shelter but many of their constituents don't.
Hell, I've been an ex-pat in the making for years. I am not remotely patriotic nor proud of my country for its history of intolerance of the marginalized and its warmongering amongst smaller nations. With each election, I swear that I'm booking a one-way flight to Europe and only coming back for summer festivals. (At least this way I'd be that much closer for Glasto!)
Occupy, shut it down, America is the people's land
Oh I'm going to New Hampshire later this morning. My friends and allies already up there have been giving these jerkstores hell. Voting seems irrelevant when you have your pick between crooks, liars, morons, and puppets.
Ok, quacker's post got me motivated to look. Is wikipedia accurate in saying that every House seat is up for reelection this year? If it is, I would rather vote for anybody than reelect this doucher.
House seats (all 435) are up for election every two years, on even numbered years.
The last one was 2010, now it's up again in 2012.
Thanks. I can never remember that. I will definitely being voting for whoever runs against Fleischmann. Also, Corker is up for reelection. I'll be voting against him too as I would assume hollis will as well, Chattanooga residents have a special place in their hearts for Corker.

Bob Corker used to be the mayor of Chattanooga before he was elevated to Senator. From his wikipedia page:
"While Bob Corker was mayor of Chattanooga, he pushed through the sale of public wildlife wetlands, much to the dismay of the citizens of Chattanooga, to the Walmart corporation. These vital wetlands, some of the few in the Chattanooga area, were sold to Walmart, with no referendum or vote. It was noted, that while Bob Corker, had put his personal and business interests in a private trust, part of the deal pertaining to the sale of the wetlands happened to involve a parcel of land that he owned and subsequently profited from. In effect, it was perceived that he was using his position of mayor of Chattanooga for his own personal gain and profit. It stretched the imagination of most, if not all, citizens that, private trust or not, he was not doing this for his own personal gain."
He's basically a very corporation friendly kind of guy. You'd love him.
