It's a bit lengthy. I feel like they should have just stuck with an LP and cut some of the filler off. 36 songs is kinda daunting but I really like the over all sound. Very cozy and very familiar.
Given they are from Chicago the Wilco/Mats references work well. I'm playing again.
EDIT: Now I know where I recognize the vocals. It's the dude from Lustre King! :O That's why this feels so familiar. If you can find it Whoreshack, dig up some STNNNG. I'm glad they are playing shows again.
New to me but liking it. Has anybody seen them perform?
Yes! They're very entertaining. Not like "wave your hands in the air like you just don't care" entertaining, but like "wow this music is mesmerizing me and I'm seeing imagery and color and I don't even need NO NO WORD!!! to get all awesomely weird in the head from seeing and listening to this" entertaining.
I missed them this past summer so I don't know about now, but I used to love seeing them in the 80s and 90s. I don't know of anyone who combines the ambient, hypnotizing synthy sounds with a world beat like they do. And to come back from such a long layoff and produce this record is really amazing. Might take a while to get into them, but the payoff is there with repeated listens.
Unfortunately, I have not... I missed them a month or so ago when they came around, but soon realized the error of my ways by seeing some videos.
I remember getting this, listening to it a few times, and totally discarding and dismissing it. It just didn't hold up to the expectations I had built up from Leftism. I guess it's about time to give it another shot.
