I've seen the Melvins 16 times and it has never cost more than $20. Who was charging $30? I did have to miss the last show they played at OEJ though. Maybe they were charging more because of Pinkus being with them.
I want to say with fees and bullsh$t it was almost $30, but I could be wrong on the price. I know that King Buzzo there in June was less than $20 (w/fees) and Dax Riggs opened and it was the best Dax Riggs show that I have been to in YEARS. I guess he stepped it up for the King.
That last show was $30?? Longinus and I had to eat tickets on that show due to his being temporarily car less and my car not being in good shape at that time.
Glad to hear Dax was great. He's had many a crappy show over the last several years. The last time I saw him at OEJ in like 2009 or 2010 he was so fucking drunk he didn't know what to do after he finished a song so we just kept yelling the names of songs and he'd jump in to them. I feel slightly guilty because the girl I was with at the time and I were non-fanboying it with him and helping him polish off a 5th of Jack he was walking around with.
Dax opening for the Butthole Surfers at OEJ is a top 5 show ever for me. My 2nd fav show ever was at OEJ as well, The Olivia Tremor Control in 2011.
So yea, Im right with you on OEJ being the best venue in nola. Walked right in the door for Morning 40 Friday night, that's never worked for me before. Score.

Fuck, I forgot we had to eat 'em. Just looked up receipt in email:

It sucks that you missed that show, and yes Dax has been HORRIBLE as of late. We saw him on November 27, 2013 and it was so bad, but the opening band Strange Roux, really made up for the $12 ticket. In fact he was so bad, that when I saw he was playing again in February or March, I emailed him and asked if he was still going to do his solo stuff or if he would have others with him. He responded just his solo, so I told him, ok I guess I will catch you next time, I can't take that depressing, solo BS you are rocking right now.
So many shows to say which was best, but Pinback definitely stands out for me. Butthole Surfers was a great show too!
I'm probably going to see them for the first time earlier that week (2/10). I'll be sure to share my review!
they played a lottttt from the new album when I saw them last month. I was a little disappointed they didn't play more of their old stuff, but it was still a great, nostalgic time!

"Myriad Harbour" was a real highlight of their performance at Fun Fun Fun for me.

YES. adventures in solitude & challengers were my highlights.
the new pornos were among the first bands that I really loved & that brought me into enjoying/discovering really good music in high school. along the lines of like the shins / death cab / modest mouse / the postal service, they helped being me out of my dashboard confessional / fall out boy / panic at the disco phase.
^ you have no idea. I got blood splattered on me at that show.

Good to know. I started listening to them recently and I'm only very familiar with the new album, so that would actually be ideal for me. Nonetheless, one of these days I'll give their entire discography a more thorough listen.

the old stuff is the best. personal album ranking: 1. challengers 2. twin cinema 3. mass romantic 4. together 5. brill bruisers 6. electric version
ahhh I've been listening to new pornos all day now!
I'm sure it's a 4+ hour show and will be worth it.
I would gues 2.5-3hr.
From what I read yesterday it's all of them together for one long set or maybe two sets. Said they'll play acoustic and electric, NMA and AO songs + covers.
Hoping they add some shows, only have a Baton Rouge show for the Gulf Coast is pretty whack.
Been seeing The Ders w/ Luther rockin' teenaged combo since the first mini Xmas tour in 2011 and I def need more of them in my life.
Yeah, I assumed that both would play like 2 hour sets and then encore together or something. Baton Rouge on a thursday is no bueno. Hopefully they'll be adding shows in March to fill in that huge gap.
The Mothlight has some good stuff coming up next year Diarrhea Planet, Parquet Courts, and Merchandise.
I have a feeling I would be at the Mothlight a ton if I lived in Asheville. That name keeps popping up when I see bands book Asheville dates.
Probably should go in the headliner thread.
Asheville Music Hall (So sad this is in the process of being sold but they say that they are trying to find someone who will keep it a music venue) The Mothlight The Orange Peel New Mountain The Grey Eagle US Cellular Center/Thomas Wolfe Isis (only because they book boring stuff exclusively)

Definitely going to two of the three Florida shows. I'm so glad I get to see them a couple more times before they call it quits

This makes me anxious. I've only recently started to make it out to the funk jam on Tuesdays, and it really is a blast. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed in hopes the hall winds up in good hands.
