soo last night I saw zola jesus. to be honest, I mostly went because 1. I hadn't been to a show since november and I was desperate to see something and she was the only act I was semi-interested in that could break the streak and 2. one of my best friends from high school just moved here and I wanted to take her out and show her some fun times. so anyway, I went in with little-to-no expectations.
holy shit. gurl is an amazing performer. right off the bat she came out and belted out her first song (I have a shit memory for song titles, fyi) and then broke out into the most intense dance moves. her energy was just unreal and she owned the stage. I had a mouth-wide-open stare through the first song, she was just so impressive and you could feel her emotions. her backing band was really good as well - complete with a trombone player which totally nerded me out because I was a brass player in HS/middle school. (I don't play anymore but have a deep appreciation for brass instruments) and her voice. oh man. even better live than on record. and she sang a song a capella, no mic, and it gave me goosebumps.
all in all the show was completely captivating and she really deserves a lot of success. I definitely recommend seeing her if she comes through your city.

I saw her with JG Thirlwell at Mountain Oasis. For background, I was ridiculously excited for that show. Like borderline inappropriate excited. It was amazing. I legit almost cried during Collapse, and I don't cry about anything. The only thing that saved me was that EAP was nearby, and you never show weakness in front of your enemies.

Good to hear! I am seeing her tonight in St. Louis. Did you catch any of the Deradoorian opening set?

I figured since Jessica is coming through solo next month that we wouldn't get Seth's part of the tour in St. Louis. Too bad, might make the trek up to Chicago...the Athenaeum Theatre is awesome.
Stoked to see Jack White at the Music Hall here in Austin next weekend. Going the 2nd night of the 2. Really hoping he opens with Fell In Love With A Girl.

xxyyxx and Disclosure were awesome, that's still the best Disclosure set I've seen. Deltron 3030 was cool, something I've been wanting to see for ages. I caught most of Gary Numan & GYBE, but unfortunately I was way out of it..

I'm going to their turf club show on that thursday, but I'm taking the GRE the afternoon of the 7th and therefore took the night off from work - it would be a nice little treat to go to a show that night.

oh man. I just re-looked at that lineup and am really sad I didn't go. it looks even better almost 2 years later. I had tried to come down, but was transitioning jobs at the time. booooo. I wish they would revive mountain oasis.

Sweet! Surprised to see Mastodon coming back through, and at San Antonio of all places! Never heard of Kapone's Ballroom though, looks like some shitty club, not sure why Mastodon is playing there considering they sold out Stubb's in Austin last time through.

For those of you that like to come to Asheville from time to time. It looks like we are getting a new amphitheater. And they are putting on a mini festival thing.
Black Lips on Friday RJD2 on Saturday Snarky Puppy on Sunday plus a lot of smaller bands that I don't know. But 60 for the weekend isn't bad. link
