As I said before I'm not huge into metal, nor a gigantic Mastodon fanboy, but is it bad that I think Crack The Skye is head and shoulders above the rest? And also that I think it's the best metal album of the last ten years? I really am baiting some criticism here, so that I may look into prior efforts harder (even though I do love both Blood Mountain and Leviathan to a lesser degree).
it's not bad. actually i think that would probably be popular opinion that crack the skye is their best. personally i prefer leviathan.

Theres nothing wrong with that opinion. I'm a huge Mastodon fan and its my favorite record of thiers (Though its not the best metal album of the last 10 years) I do think they have gotten better with each record. But im also a huge fan of progressive music and progressive metal. Hence my begging/hoping for Rush, Iron Maiden, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Baroness, and Mastodon every year, but I would be pumped for Juggs list.

I thought having Mastodon come on after Neurosis was like a death sentence. It's really hard to follow their show. Didn't help that Brent showed up late and drunk and played sloppy and careless.
Everyone's talking all these other hard rock acts... I think one band would work as the perfect companion coup for a Mastodon or a QOTSA... Killing Joke. Last year's album was top notch, and they still haven't toured for it, yet.

I've dreamt of Killing Joke hitting the farm. Love the idea. Their last several albums have been rock solid. I believe they just toured though, with Bloodiest, a great up'n-commer. I know they do European fests, but Tenn seems a bit of a stretch.
Please book Between the Buried & Me, Animals As Leaders, Periphery, and Mastodon as next years metal acts. They are all progressive-y and I think they would fit in well. As long as they aren't too heavy for Bonnaroo. Dethklok would be a sweet band to book too. Considering Adult Swim's presence at Bonnaroo this year I could see this happening.

I just read that they did have US dates set up, but had to cancel all of them before they were announced, due to "health issues in the band" (?). However, they are playing four European dates in the coming month. So, who knows what's going on with those guys.

Mastodon has posted their entire new album "The Hunter" on YouTube. Listen to it here -->
I'm about halfway through. I still can't get into Curl Of The Burl. I just don't like it. Everything else so far is alright, but honestly I was expecting it to be better than it is. What do you guys think about it?
I've seen Mastodon a handful of times and absolutely love them, but the more recent of shows I have seen had brought me mixed feelings. When i saw them tour leviathan the show blew me away in every sense, the last time I saw them they come across kind of weak and vocally weren't as on point as in the past. From what I heard off the new album it's killer so hopefully this next turn around they will step it up, and hopefully I can see them step it up at roo!
The new record is not doing it for me, luckily they're coming to town near my birthday so it's one less conflict for Roo at worst. I've been a fan for awhile and hope you all have fun.

Me 10 years ago would of thought seeing DMX was awesome. Now it'd just be funny, and I assume probably painful to see a man a shell of his former self.
