I don't understand why some of you are so terrified of connecting the dots. Insider told you she was "loosely" describing RHCP as a headliner, but no one could come to terms with that. Now she's said that they are attempting to book a big, non-current act for Saturday night on the What and you really think it won't be unopposed? OK.
She described Radiohead and RHCP both as "loose" headliners, simply because she tends not to use the term "headliner" at all. She sticks to talking about the "prime time" acts, which she considers the 5 or 6 main acts throughout the weekend, usually the preheadliners/headliners/late nights.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

I don't think we know how "big" the act is though. And we don't know that RHCP won't be the unopposed act even if the number 4 plays Saturday night. They havnt even booked the other act yet, so even AC doesn't know. So Insider, and we, don't know either. I mean I would be all for a giant act (that is not the Beach Boys) playing unopposed Saturday in combination with RHCP, but I don't think there are dots to connect one way or the other.
I think we're looking at a Stevie/Jay-Z situation Saturday night. The way she described RHCP "loosely" as a headliner reminds me of the Stevie/Jay split in 2010 when she told us not to get caught up in semantics and that she's just referring to the 2 main stage acts on Saturday night. She refers to them "loosely" as a headliner probably because there's another act coming on after them.
You point out how she says don't get caught up in semantics, and then you immediately make a point about her word usage.

Just listened...thanks for the references. I mean its obvious this guy is a legend for a reason and I can tell he's extremely talented, but I think it might be a generational thing. It just sounds like something my parents would have listened to...if they weren't southern baptist conservative Jesus freaks, that is
I feel similarly about country music...definitely respect a lot of the talent in the genre, but it isn't something I typically listen to.
I actually found I like some of his other songs a lot more than the ones you listed. "Rockin in the Free World", "My, My, Hey, Hey", "Heart of Gold", and others come to mind.
Definitely would check him out on the farm, but I just have a hard time seeing him billed so high. If i'm wrong though, just chalk it up to my ignorance.
Just out of curiosity (not going to flame you), what do you typically listen to?
Definitely a lot more mainstream music than most of inforoo. To be honest, the majority of bands at Bonnaroo i've never even heard of. My first Roo was in 2010, and I went with an open mind trying to listen to different types of music, and I discovered Mumford and Sons, Deadmau5 (wasn't really a fan of his music, but was my first exposure to EDM), The Flaming Lips, KoL (only had heard Sex on Fire and Use Somebody and hated those songs), Michael Franti, and several others...but the shows that I came to see were Weezer, Tenacious D, Jay-Z, and DMB.
KoL and Jay-Z were hands down the best two shows i've ever seen, and I say this at the risk of getting flamed but everyone that walked away from that KoL set with me just had their jaws on the floor. I had low expectations for KoL because like I said the crap that they played on the radio was so overplayed and not that great...but the rest of their setlist blew me away. And don't get me started on Jay-Z.
I'd like to think going to a lot of festivals has broadened my tastes in music but i'm still not someone who is going to dig around looking for lesser known indie bands...I listen to what is easily accessible, for better or for worse. My favorite current pop-ish band is OneRepublic...saw them at the Ryman and they blew me away.
I love every genre except country and i'm a sucker for over-produced, catchy, shallow radio crap if i'm driving mindlessly with friends...but I also appreciate depth greatly if i'm focused on listening. My dream lineup of Bonnaroo is Radiohead and Daft Punk headlining. Luckily my dream is coming half true
I used to have the best job ever driving at this local pizza place. Great tips, great food, good people, and I was training to be an AM. But the place went out of business, so I start as a Jimmy Johns driver today.
As much as I want Dre and Snoop, we already have Radiohead pretty much confirmed. Have we ever gotten TWO of the same headliners as Coachella? I know we usually get one (Arcade Fire last year, Radiohead this year) but two??? Thats crazy talk.
We've got 1.5 last year. The Strokes were the Sunday co-headliner with someone. I don't remember who. Kanye maybe?
haha I already screamed after catching up on insider's post. If its Neil Young and Crazy Horse I am a happy, happy man. Who would really like to hear Hey Hey My My, or My My Hey Hey. I see a Beck possiblity also, and I've wanted to see him for soooo long. Beck, as people have stated before on this thread I believe, is not a current act. Either way I can't wait.
Yeah. Beck isn't really that old, just the words insider used struck me cause I've been lurking this forever(I got a broken leg and sit at home all day). I've wanted to see Furthur for a while. Don't know if they count since technically they're not that old, but if you count them as The Grateful Dead they are. CCR would be cool too! Oh the possibilities.

"You'd be shocked by what still ISN'T worked out"
I think she means that they probably are trying to book another big band on Saturday and don't know which one they'll let pre-headline or play a late night.
Last year Buffalo Springfield was a pretty late booking and they had to find place for them. I'm pretty sure they requested an unopposed set or Bonnaroo wanted them to play unopposed.
I think we have something similar going on that they probably are trying to book some band last-minute but only if it fits with RHCP playing that day. They have to move a band that's booked already so the contract would have to change. This takes time, that's probably why things aren't worked out yet.
I think insider will at least come back to give us which days the headliners are playing. She usually gives us the night by night breakdown for the headliners. That might be all she gives us before the lineup drop, though.
Looking like Radiohead Friday night - Phish to close Sunday night. Also looking like only one phish show.
Like I said the post before. No mention of Saturday = probably Bonnaroo deciding where to put RHCP.

I'm pretty confident the other Sat night headliner will be billed over RHCP based on Insider's wording. But I'm going to dial back my hopes and expectations and just assume Madonna is headlining Sat night. Which hasn't been suggested yet, and would actually make alot of sense.
