Seeing people talk about still getting Neil Young or Prince just hurts me. You're only setting yourself up for disappointment.
True, but I'm just saying it's not impossible.
Prince/Radiohead/Phish/RHCP really isn't too different from Stevie/DMB/Jay-Z/KoL in all honesty.
As far as festival ticket sells those headliners are a big difference. Radiohead or Phish can sell out festivals themselves stand alone, together they are huge for the festival going scene as its it two large overlapping demogrpahics. None of these acts other than maybe DMB can close to that kind of crowd pull. Stevie/DMB/Jay-z/ KOL

I agree with ITM, I think it's gonna be RHCP>Phish on Saturday (or maybe Friday) like the Stevie>Jay-Z spot from '10, hence why insider used the term "loosely."
The only thing to consider is: How much does Roo spend on headliners? None of the confirmed names: Radiohead, RHCP, and Phish are getting anywhere near Eminem money ($3 million). Most top tier bands, get around $1 million a nigh in payment guarantees. By that logic, last year, assuming the Black Keys, Arcade Fire, and MMJ were deemed top tier acts, the total HL cost was $6 million. Let's assume Radiohead gets $2 million, RHCP gets $1 million, and Phish gets $1.5 million (for one show). There is still enough HL money for a well paid headliner. Of course, this theory does not hold up if RHCP has signed an American festival exclusivity agreement with AC/SFE. I would assume they are exclusive to Roo then they would get $2 million.

Radiohead - RHCP - Phish is a pretty powerful top line, with or without another big name added. There can't really be any complaints about AC/S not bringing it this year.
I'm still confused by the (I use that term relatively loosely) part. If you remember in the past, insider has had a much broader interpretation of a headliner than most of us:
Keep in mind that not all of the 'headliners' (i.e. - early and late slots on Fri & Sat and Sun slot) have been signed, sealed and delivered yet and I only know when its done, not whats in negotiation/being finished up.
You'd think that RHCP would definitely fit into one of those categories so I don't know why she would not call them an outright headliner.
With that being said, there really are no other R_D bands out there that could fit the pre-headliner status.

insider said last year that she considers the top 6 "headliners" so its possible to have

Eh, that's debatable. Radiohead is obviously huge, but they're touring heavily next year and are also playing Coachella. I'm also talking more in terms of money than draw, as I'm assuming Jay-Z and DMB cost a pretty penny. The market price of 2010's 4 headliners is probably close to, albeit a little less, than a Prince/Radiohead/RHCP/Phish scenario.
My best guess is still Phish x2 but it's not like it's not close to 2010 if we see another headliner. Maybe someone less than Prince, more of a Beach Boys or Neil or something.
I don't consider 8-10 what stage a "subheadliner" slot. I consider it more "primetime headliner", while 11 - 2 is "late night headliner"
so looking back
Jack Johnson (08), Beastie Boys (09), Stevie Wonder (10), My Morning Jacket and The Black Keys (11) would be Primetime headliners
while Phish (09), Jay Z (10), and Arcade Fire and Eminem (11) were latenight headliners.
I consider subheadliners or preheadliners acts that play while the sun is still out. But thats just me and my own word usage. Doesn't mean anything really.

robert randolphs pretty much confirmed. hes talked about it twice i think. once said he wnats to play a sunrise set and once he liked a post about it on his facebook page
Best Case: Friday: Raconteurs > RHCP > Phish LN (a la Jay Z) Saturday: Beach Boys > Radiohead Sunday: Allman Brothers Band > Neil Young and Crazy Horse
Worst Case: Friday: pre HL > RHCP Saturday; pre HL > Radiohead Sunday; pre HL > Phish
Either way is more than fine with me, but I'm hoping for my best case. Is it that out of the question? I say possible not probable

She considers a headliner basically any prime time slot (pre-headline What or stereotypical headline slot). Acts she's confirmed when talking about "headliners": WSP, AF, MMJ, Plant, Black Keys, Eminem (2011).
That being said, I think it's safe to say that she's referring to RHCP and Radiohead here, both of which are headliner status, so we're seeing someone else of equal caliber playing (either Phish or someone else) to split with them.

im almost scared it will be too good and sell out. im coming with like 15 people and weve already bought plane tickets and stuff. no way it sells out in less than an hour right? even with beachboys or neil?
