Jesus H Christ, Week 1 3-day passes are already starting at $599 per pass on StubHub. Something REALLY needs to be done about that site. Thats just purchasing a product in high demand, inflating the price 3 fold, and then immediately putting it back on the market for profit. Thats some fuckin bullshit right there.

I really really hate that site and the dudes who run it. Remember after the whole LCD ticket thing James Murphy started in on them and the guy responding to him was just the biggest d-bag.
If coachella just charged what the market values the tickets at ($599? Who knows) for the tickets to begin with, this wouldn't be a problem. Free market
got in standby at 9:58 cali time.. waited about 10 minutes and then it said weekend 1 was unavailable. i kept refreshing that page and was able to grab 1 ticket i needed for the low low price of $389 with shipping.. fuucckkkkkk

These kind of arguments are always so frustrating because they're so broad and discouraging.
If it had been a 600 dollar ticket I wouldn't have been able to buy one in June.

If they were to charge that stupid of an amount of money, I just wouldn't go. I feel that is a dumb statement. Not everybody would pay $600 for a ticket. Some will, yes--but the festival sure as hell won't sell out.

I don't know about that. There isn't anything inherently evil about charging as much for something as people are willing to pay. It sucks for people that can't afford it but that's life. I'd love a Porsche but I can't afford one right now. It's just life. Still waiting by the way, this blows.

A $600 ticket would totally defeat the purpose of a festival for me; seeing a bunch of shows I normally wouldn't be able to afford going to individually. For $600 I could just see most of the shows I want to see while they're touring.

My beef with this is that there are StubHub accounts that have 6-7 Weekend 1 passes selling for $749 each, RIGHT NOW (and the CHEAPEST pass on the site). Tickets haven't gone back on sale for even an hour yet. Those same tickets can and should be purchased on the Coachella website for $285. But now some hopeful festival attendee can't because some jerkstore bought 7 of them knowing some poor soul that couldn't jump in standby in time on the coachella website will now buy them from him/her. They unload all 7 passes making profit of around $429 for each pass (totaling roughly $3003 profit) for the StubHub user, who in all reality probably isn't even attending the festival. THAT is whats wrong with StubHub.
EDIT: right now there is a StubHub user that has 20, fucking 20 Weekend 1 passes for sale at $887 each. 887 minus 330 after taxes equals 557 profit per ticket for a total of $11,140 profit for unloading all 20 tickets on the site. Someone stands to gain more than $10,000 off of StubHub, thats a crime.

Hells yes, the same thing happened with Avett Bros tickets last month. They sold out in 27 seconds. They were $35 face value. There were some on stubhub within the hour at $200 and more. Freaking vultures.

And that won't change until there are no more people willing to pay extra for the convenience of not having to refresh a webpage at 10AM and sit in line to get a ticket. Unless coachella wants to block resale entirely, which also won't happen, because sometimes things come up and you can't go.

The problem is that people buy them. If noone was willing to buy those tix for the outrageous price then this dude would be sitting on tickets that would essentially be useless to him. Eventually having to offload them for a price less then what he/she paid for them because they are rushing to get rid of them at the fields before Coachella. Everyone panicks and instead of waiting a few days/weeks for the hype to cool down and unrationally purchases tickets for 3x's the price. With the amount of people not able to get through, plans are going to be ruined and there will be tickets available from honest people not trying to make a buck on other peoples misfortunes

Goldenvoice is getting ripped on the Coachella facebook page right now. Over 1000 FU comments. Lots of people apparently getting their cards declined even though they made it through the standby page. Over an hour to by a ticket from a software program seems like something is broken.

Tried for the 1st weekend with no luck, just gonna save my money and go to sxsw. 4 days of sxsw cost less than $200 last year since I stay with friends.

Also, the sellout madness is why all festivals should follow the glastonbury route and require ticket registration and have your picture printed on the ticket. Eliminates scalping 100%.

There's also a fee StubHub takes, so StubHub gets a shit ton from these sales. That is why the prices are so high. People offset their StubHub losses. They list the tickets for $887, but StubHub alone is probably taking over $100 on each ticket sold.
