Is anyone else surprised that the Black Keys is the most popular band so far?
No. Everyone loves them right now, and their appeal crosses genres. Also, while I found their high placement (particularly above Buffalo Springfield, SCI, and Wayne) surprising, I'm beginning to think it was more justified and I think AC/Superfly knew exactly what they were doing.
I was just thinking this when I discovered the site on my phone a little while ago.
This system is way better than anything before. I wish I could give a Friday to AC for this one!

I have to agree with a lot of people about not being that shocked about WSP being ranked so low. I hope the festival organizers do take it as a sign. Not many people were really excited about seeing them on the line-up, and I doubt anyone was surprised. All the electronic artists they booked have twice as many votes as WSP, awesome.
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio." -Hunter S. Thompson

I will agree its far superior to last year.
I'm also searching my brain for a wsp defense here... falling short of one at the moment. i wasn't shocked, upset or even excited to see them on the line up. Ive seen them more than a few times but ill be at the show for sure. i do expect a lot of people to roll out of the campground before or as this show is taking place, mainly those that show up unprepared for the weekend as per usual.

^^^always. I will say though, if your hating and you've seen them live than thats fine. they are a must see live in order to form a solid opinion act. and if your forming your opinion based on youtube, give them a chance

I love WSP, they have a ton of fans and will pack the place. Certainally there are people who could care less about them. I am guessing there are more people on this board who like the black keys.

Yeah, but I think NoD's argument is that, even if he loves them, it's a little lame for him to continue to book them year after year in a headlining spot. Bonnaroo is one of the premier music festivals in the US, and has been since 2006, and since 2006 they've played 3 out of the 6 fests since then. None of the other festivals have booked a headliner that often, and it's not like it's Radiohead, it's WP, and regardless of how you feel about them, you have to admit their audience is a very niche group. Hell, in 2008 they were 8th on the bill at Outside Lands.

They were 8th at Outside Lands because it's not in the south. I don't really care for WSP so I'm not defending them, I'm just pointing that out. To be honest, though, I don't care for many jam bands so I never care who's playing Sunday night anyway.

But he's clearly aiming to please the masses and make a profit....I don't think AC is some eccentric billionaire throwing a yearly music festival for himself, and we're all just lucky enough that he allows us to attend. It's constructive criticism, which Bonnaroo has always been open too. I think we're at the point where a majority of the festival-attendees wouldn't be upset, and probably pleased, if they dropped the Sunday Jam Band requirement.
It's not something that particularly bothers me, I don't mind leaving early, or taking a nap on the lawn as my friends listen, but I think it might be time for AC/S to consider it from a business perspective, which is obviously the perspective they look at it from.
Edit To Notmitchelbade: That's my point. It's a very niche-oriented group. Sure, Bonnaroo is in the South, but people come from all over the country at this point. Is there any other major festival bookings bands that only appeal to a certain geographical region?

Yea, exactly this.
I'm not knocking WSP, but 3 of 6 is a lot and a little bit weird for a festival of this size.

They will pack the place because there won't be much else going on. I have no vested interest in seeing them, but I more than likely will show up because I'm there on the farm for the music, plus the people watching might be fun.

Agree to disagree. I just feel that for a band, who's backs this great fest was built on, continue to get nothing but disrespect from folks who generally haven't given them a real chance. Plus, take away Panic and you'll probably just get a Further/Dead/Phil&Phriendz in their place, which won't appease the masses, either. I don't see them doing away with the Jam Headliner altogether.

I really like how Coachella ends their Sunday with a bang. Regardless of whether some people on here like him or not, Kanye closing Coachella this year was a perfect example of ending an already great festival on an immense high note. A high-energy, somewhat theatrical performance with tons of hits that could have stretched on even longer than it did would be a much better way to end the weekend than four hours of WSP, or any similar band, jamming.

exactly, if not one than another... this fest was absolutely built on the back of jam bands, no doubt about. they cant cut it all together for the 10th. future?? quite possibly

I used to pretty much only listen to jam bands, including WSP, my senior year of high school. Four years later, it's not even on my ipod/itunes. It's just boring to me.
