anyway, happy 420 scrogg, cursedlono and everyone. I've been having a good one so far. Phillies win, Flyers tonight, and I'm seeing Philadelphia Slick after that
Well if you can prove me wrong, I am all ears. I seriously mean that too, no sarcasm implied, I honestly enjoy learning, especially about medicine in general. One thing you need to understand though, these are not my "claims" or opinions. The correlation between cardiovascular and neurological health has been proven.
I don't agree with you on everything jhammett. And I'm probably the straightest monkey on this board. But I have to give you a Friday for standing up for your convictions. No matter how wrong they may be. ;D
Yay, now if I could just figure out where the other 2 went....
Scrog, my post is just 2 posts above yours, and I tried to address all of the comments I had gotten. I explained how each of those things that I listed has a negative effect on your brain, but I did forget the lack of exercise, so I will address it quickly.
I saw your post after I had posted already. I want to let it go, but, "I do not mean to sound demeaning when I explain this, but I want to make sure everyone is one the same page." Your brain needs oxygen to survive, without it brain cells die. Yes, this is true. I will quote you,
"By the way, you would be suprised to know exactly what does kill brain cells... loud music, junk food, sleep deprivation, stress, lack of exercise, tobacco use... the list goes on and on. "
By partaking in one of these examples you are not actively "killing brain cells". If I eat a bag of chips and drink a coke, I am not killing brain cells. If I inhale a balloon filled with nitrous oxide (NO2), I will get really high and I will kill some of my brain cells in the process. You said,
"I find it funny that fake hippies and stoners celebrate their ability to kill brain cells.."
, which you back tracked on and whatever. you are still saying Marijuana and all these other things, loud music, junk food, sleep deprivation, stress, lack of exercise, tobacco, kills brain cells, when they do not. It is not the individual action, it would be the life style. A poor cardiovascular lifestyle could lead to an increase in brain cell deaths, but lack of O2 is the brain cell killer, oxygen substituted it with another chemical, NO2, CO2 or whatever.
I do not mean to sound demeaning when I explain this, but I want to make sure everyone is one the same page. Your brain depends exclusively on your heart and cardiovascular system to deliver the oxygen it needs to survive. It should be easily understood that the healthier your cardiovascular system is, the healthier your brain is. In the event of poor cardiovascular health, be it high blood pressure, poor blood circulation, or abnormal blood chemistry, your brain is simply not getting the necessary amount of oxygen. The more you deprive your brain of oxygen, the faster your brain dies.
A lack of exercise, by an able bodied person, while not disastrous to your brain in itself, can cause plenty of medical and mental health conditions that can lead to poor cardiovascular health, which will kill brain cells. Medical conditions include diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, etc. Mental health conditions include, but are not limited to; stress, anxiety, and insomnia, for which physical exercise is often the best cure.
A complete lack of exercise, such as in the case of those people whom are confined to a wheelchair can lead to horrible cardiovascular health if their nutrition is not carefully planned and monitored. Without proper precaution, the face an even greater danger risk of decaying health. You can be sure that Mr Hawking's nutrition and cardiovascular condition is being carefully monitored. Even then, it is not likely that he will live out the common life expectancy.
I am sure Mr Hawking has a wonderful dietitian. You reply made you sound somewhat intelligent. I will give you a Friday for that. And I hope you have a good day as well.

No one wants to prove anything to you. This thread wasnt started to start debates about the health benefits of cannabis and no one is trying to say "everyone should smoke pot its the be all end all of fun!" To me today is simply about raising awareness of the plant, which as this thread proves is very misunderstood, and to fight for its full legalization. If you dont want to smoke pot you dont have to, but what legitimate reason do you have to continue posting in this thread other than to rile people up?
(I don't want anyone to think this video is a response to jhammett. If you are against or just don't want to smoke weed or do any drug, that's cool with me. I just think the video is funny and wanted to post it.)

I made a post, to question why people celebrate their freedom to get high on hitlers birthday, and the anniversary on columbine, and that post I targeted "fake hippies and stoners", and for whatever reason, the whole of inforoo took offense to it, despite the majority of people not likely fitting the description of either of those stereotypes. My post came under fire, and then my retort came under fire. I don't know about you, but if I believe something, I won't back down, for any reason. And when it becomes a debate like it did, I try my best to answer everything that was directed at me. Even this very post, you present a question, so I present an answer.
You do what you want. So long as it does not adversely affect me, knock yourself out.
I in turn will do the same.
And this whole business about science proving one thing over another- there's "scientific evidence" that states global warming IS real, IS happening, and IS human caused. Much like there's "scientific evidence" that states there's no such thing. Much like there's "scientific evidence" to support every case in between these two extremes. Now what?
In case you haven't noticed, this is a message board of music lovers and aficionados of the music festival experience. it's really not going to go unnoticed that you are trying to look cool by being so counter-counterculture...
I made a post, to question why people celebrate their freedom to get high on hitlers birthday, and the anniversary on columbine,
Just so you know......it wasn't like stoners way back when were like "Let's celebrate on April 20th".
There's no actual proof to my knowledge of how the number "420" came to be associated with marijuana but just know that it was never picked because of any relation to Hitler. Columbine came way after people were using the term 420 to mean smoking so I don't see what your problem is with that. If there were some massacre on Christmas Day then you wouldn't just stop celebrating Christmas. Or people wouldn't get annoyed/mad at you for celebrating Christmas just because it fell on the same date as some tragedy.
420 is not a police code for MJ. One story (one that I read a pretty in-depth article about some time ago but can't find it now) is that 4:20 is when kids in some school would meet up to get high after they got out of detention or something like that. Not sure how true it is but the point remains - people didn't pick April 20th to celebrate. It just so happens that "420" is associated with herb use and it also happens to be a date on the calendar (4 / 20) so it became a sort of fake holiday.
I wasn't offended by anything you said. But just know that the ONLY association with Hitler is that it happens to be on his birthday. Pure coincidence. If the term originated as "430" then people would be "celebrating" on April 30th.
So please....stop acting like there is some connection with people smoking and Hitler.
Edit: here is a video explanation (which takes it's info from the article I read)
I used that term as reference to the typical laziness of someone who is high. I am not saying that stoners are always lazy, but they usually are while under the influence. By the way, you would be suprised to know exactly what does kill brain cells... loud music, junk food, sleep deprivation, stress, lack of exercise, tobacco use... the list goes on and on.[/quote]
You just described my life.

I just have one question....if you are posing as a fake hippie stoner and eat a whole bag of Doritos and a few Reeses cups, do the calories not count? Because the whole thing was a sham?

"The term was actually coined in 1971 in San Rafael, Calif., by a group of friends who met outside their school each day to search for a rumored plot of abandoned pot (nice alliteration, right?). Their chosen time to meet? You guessed it: 4:20."
"So there you have it. No, 420 isn't a police code for possession of marijuana. Yes, it is the date of Adolf Hitler's birthday. No, it isn't the number of chemical compounds in the NO NO WORD!!! celebrated on the date. Yes, it is, sadly, the date of the massacre at Columbine High School in 1999, as well as the 2010 explosion of the Deepwater Horizon, which led to the largest offshore oil spill in U.S. history.
It also happens to be the date that Michael Jordan set a post-season scoring record in 1986, putting up 63 points in an NBA playoff game against the Celtics."
Relax order a pizza watch a movie and lock yourself in the house and celebrate!
...or get up, go to work, and act like a human being because you're an adult and don't need to celebrate a made up holiday for fake hippies and burnouts everywhere.
/ turd in the punch bowl
Dude, you're harshing my buzz. From "a fake hippie? and a burnout!"
First and foremost, I have no problem with people who drink, or do dr*gs in a casual or social manner. I feel like its a waste of money, but if someone wishes to waste their money on these things, more power to them. Pot is certainly not healthy, but there are plenty of worse things out there.
I do, however, have a problem with people who act as though they can't have an enjoyable experience without being high or drunk. And these people typically use a number as an excuse to be completely worthless all day.

Holy Leno! What gives?? I just found this board a few weeks ago and this is the 1st really negative thread I've seen.
You're generalizing-I'm 50 years old, have a good job I've managed to hang on to for over 13 years, and have a normal life. I'm mostly conservative AND I have been 420 friendly for 35 years. Waste of money? It's MY money-and I make enough to live comfortably.
I pay taxes, contribute to society, and think that what I do in my down time is nobody's business, as long as I'm not being a nuisance or hurting someone.
I checked and you guys are not trolls-you've both been on the board for quite some time.
So far, all I've gotten is a good vibe on this board as I look forward to my 1st 'Roo. What is up with this Leno?
D
I'm sorry about this rant, but some things rub me the wrong way.

So if everybody knew what time the Waldos were having the "meeting", I guess the only question would have been, "where's Waldo?"
I bet the day after Paul Revere made his "the British are coming"horseback ride, he needed to relax and chill and burn one and that would have been on April 20th, 1775. Just sayin'
tsud eht setib eno rehtona = it's fun to smoke marijuana
A while back I made a thread about this remix, I think it is great, we all need some Church in us.

I am not going to debate what you have said, or state my points for the 16th time either, instead, I will just make a friendly suggestion... when you read that makes you want to jump in the conversation, continue reading, to see what other people have said, and how the conversation had progressed.
