Haha Shpongletron on Thursday night would make for an interesting Friday for a lot of people.
Definitely expected Wiz Khalifa as a late night. Shocked by that one and nobody has mentioned it yet. He would have worked very well in the Kid Cudi or B.O.B. spots from last year. That being said, those who have made the late night list could make for some serious conflicts. I'm dreading finding out which electronic artist is going to conflict with Dr. John. Thats a once in a lifetime set, but I loooove late night electronic shows on the farm. Aghhhhh.
Also, I dont know how anyone could not expect Wayne to play the What stage. His last album sold like 4 million copies. Seriously? He should play the stage that WEEZER over-packed last year? Yeah, no. I know some of you guys dont like him, but he is one of the most popular musicians in the world. Not in Bonnaroo-world, but the actual world.

For me it's not a matter of disliking him. I think he's fine and him being on the farm doesn't bother me at all.
I just don't think Bonnaroo will give him a late night What slot based on what's happened in the past. I don't think they'll have him follow Eminem on the same stage and unless he has some sort of huge production that requires the huge stage then I don't think he'll be playing that huge stage. Many people thought Nine Inch Nails were too big for the Which stage but that's where they had their late night show. No doubt Wayne will pull a lot of people......I just don't think it will be at the What stage. I have a hard time believing that even half of the festival's attendance will be at his set when there will be so much other stuff going on.

Yeah bro, but the concert is happening in Bonnaroo-world, so what's your point?
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
I am not real familiar with the size of Wayne's popularity. Is he as big now as Kanye 08, and Jay-Z last year? A quick setlist.fm lookup says he is playing 15-20k coliseums which puts him on the border to me. I could see it going either way honestly, does he do any collaborations with Eminem? That would be the other reason I could see him there. Typically however when they run the What LN, they do not run the Which so it may be a moot point.

He is doing big arena shows, selling out with super high-priced tickets all over the country currently. Also, people like Drake, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, Travis Barker, Yelawolf and tons of others are showing up at virtually ALL of his tour dates. He has multiple songs with Eminem so they could cameo during each other's sets. It's gunna be a huge show, regardless of whether or not you think he's "just a rapper".
This guy simply wrote "What?" on his Facebook page and 50,000 people click the like button. Think about that for a second. I'm not even a fan, and probably wouldn't see him if he's conflicting with any of the other Late Night sets announced, but Wayne is undeniably a huge star. These are just the facts.

Obviously, Jay Z is a legend, but I would compare booking Wayne now to if they booked Jay Z a few years ago. Kanye went double-Platinum with Graduation, Wayne went quadruple-Platinum around the same time. The only big name Kanye felt was worthy of having a guest spot on Graduation was Wayne.

Lil Wayne and em do collab in fact I saw them on Saturday night live together. Lil Wayne is huge, him and Eminem are the most popular artists on this line up.

Its true. I think we could combine the total record sales of Eminem and Lil Wayne and it would significantly outnumber the sales of every other act on the line-up combined, minus Neil Young.
I would venture to guess if you polled a group of people from age 0-30 if they knew who Lil Wayne was or Neil Young, likely Lil Wayne would crush him. Tha Carter III is triple platinum, i think a triple platinum artist would deserve what stage.

Whichever Wayne plays, What or Which, the other will be empty (not The Other Tent, the other stage). So I don't really think it matters too much, in terms of constructing a mock, which one he plays on. It will be interesting to find out, though. I think he is pretty much borderline in terms of being big enough to What but small enough to do Which (as evidenced by this discussion).
Do Late Night acts usually play for longer? Desitively Bonnaroo is less then 40 minutes worth of material, I guess you could pad some time on and make the songs longer. I'd think a 40 minute late night set is pretty short. I'd think this would leave more room for other material to be played.

Those guys are definitely gunna jam out to some New Orleans classics. Dr. John and Allen Toussaint on stage together is just awesome. Shit, they should throw Trombone Shorty on there and they could play all night.
Any Treme fans super hyped to actually see this in person?

It depends, but generally a bit shorter than daytime sets. That being said, I think this set will get special attention and get to play longer than 40 min for sure. I'd say a little over an hour, either right before or right after Bootsy (edit: or Gogol Bordello).

With Allen Toussaint playing with him they will fill up a 90 minute set no problem.

Some late night sets play longer.
Dr. John will not be playing for only 40 minutes.....you can be certain of that.
I'd say the LEAST amount of time Dr. John will get is an hour and a half. I know the album is pretty short but they will likely pad it out a little bit and I'm sure they'll play a few other songs afterwards. I think it will be an epic set and can't see it playing for just 40 minutes.

Thank you for being such a reasonable voice on this board.

I was unaware that NIN played the Which stage. I'm envisioning Wayne in the Jay Z spot from last year, as Jay was pegged as a late night act and was at about the same spot on the schedule (Buffalo Springfield takes up like a line and a half of the line-up). Is there any chance of Buffalo Springfield playing Sunday before Widespread Panic? If so then I could see Saturday being Black Keys at dusk followed by Eminem in the Stevie Wonder spot followed by Wayne late-night in the Jay Z spot.
Dear Bonnaroo scheduling gods, please don't let Bootsy and Dr. John conflict.
I would say this seems like the least likely conflict to me. Add Gogol to that, too. I bet 2 of them share a tent and the other one plays the other night.
Do you guys think Wayne is really going to put on a show comparable to Jay Z last year? I really can't see him even coming close. I feel like Wayne is gonna spend half his time talking about him self and being so full of it that some many people are watching him (yes, i know he plays huge shows all the time, but the bonnaroo crowd is something else). I'll respect Eminem enough to say he'll give a good show to the crowd but i'm a little suspicious about Wayne doing the same.
The one plus, at least he's going to take crowds away from the good shows that night.

Wilco sells more albums than Phish, Widespread, and Dave combined, possibly Tool, and Tom Petty as well. However they did not headline. Album sales are not the only criteria. I Could see it going either way, I kind of hope for What because I will not be there and would prefer the tent area be quieter.

I dont think Wayne will have an epic live band like Jay Z, but it should be a great show. Jay Z has classic songs that even a non-fan could have walked by and jammed out to like "Oh I remember this track from college and still somehow know all the words". I think a lot of people last year were captivated by the Jay Z performance strictly because he's JAY FUCKING Z.
Wayne on the other hand may not win over non-fans as easily, but from what I've heard he is a little rockstar live. Also heard something about him doing really impressive spoken-word, acapellas, and various theatrical things throughout his shows. Plus theres the obvious potential for tons of cameos from Eminem and the people on Wayne's label which he apparently takes with him everywhere. Will it be as classic of a Bonnaroo set as Jay Z last year? I'd highly doubt it, but would it be fun for people who are into him? Definitely. I wouldn't miss it if I was more of a fan.
Jay Z was 4th and played What. NIN was 4th and played Which. Lil Wayne is 7th.
Exactly. I was just about to make that point. Even Kanye West, one of the biggest names out there, was slated to play the Which. I can't see the 7th act billed getting What LateNight.
Wayne will pack the Which Stage, just like the Which Late Nights always do. It will be super-crowded, and will hopefully thin the crowd out elsewhere.
