We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
Ya im a little worried I may have woken a sleeping giant.
Also I have no idea why people would want to be mods. Far to much work and you're not supposed to screw with people either. Sounds like no fun to me.
Edit: in the process of this I reached Stanky McNasty. I was planning to do some epic post and got caught up and forgot. Thats the second time that has happened to me
Yeah, all you people that are fixin to get all these 2 and 3 day suspension just for the hell of it, thank baconus66, its all his fault!
I know, I was asked to be a mod when there were about 300 registered users on the board. It was much easier then and there was much more of a common personality. Now there are so many people, its inevitable that there are going to be issues.
I honestly dont know why I continue to do it. There are many times when I would like to just delete my account completely and be done with it. I have developed a sense of responsibility to this entity over the years, I think.
I take a lot of crap in this job, out in the open and behind the scenes. The salary is exactly $00000.00 per year. There are no benefits.....I dont know why anyone would want to do this!!!

Awesome! Congrats.
Just wait till you see what they have in store for Bonnafunky Dirtyroo!

Dem folk must be crazy!!!!
Thats nuts. I hope whoever owns the rights to this board isnt making money while u guys mod for free.. If so u guys need a union..........
I still don't understand why I have to specifically ask to be suspended for violating the same rule that others did.
I would think it would be as simple as "Here are the rules, break them and there will be consequences," with the rules and their consequences applying equally and consistently to everyone.
I guess my complaint here is that there is/was a lack of consistency between those breaking the rules and those punished for breaking the rules. It's this inconsistency in application which creates the opening for allegations of corruption and/or favoritism. I do not feel that I am advocating for rule-breaking here, just advocating for equal treatment under the rules. (I feel the same way about society in general, fwiw.)
I was unaware of what seems to be moderators being responsible for imposing/reversing their own bans; I had thought those powers were equally shared. I think we are all starting to better understand each other's perspective here, which for the most part is a good thing... am I the only one who thinks we're better off for having had this discussion here? I hope not.
I'm not hating on any of you moderators here... or at least, I hope not. I hate sins, not sinners. That being said, when the powers that be around here claim the sin is "trademark infringement" and proceed to punish people who are ineligible for having that trademark suit filed against them... that's where I kind of have a problem with actions that have been taken.
I do believe that in the course of this, I've taken the moderators' side in taking action on behalf of the Inforoo trademark. I also believe that action claiming "trademark infringement" as its basis should only be taken against actual trademark infringers... with action against anyone else kind of seeming like an overreach. I am AOK with y'all taking action against those whose actions undermine the Inforoo brand and the rights that go along with it, but I think those actions ought to have been - and still should be - taken only against people who would be legitimate defendants in a trademark violation lawsuit. Going beyond that weakens the legitimate claims that have been made, in my opinion.
I realize this was a decision that most likely came from the top, and that it's quite possible other moderators can hear my side with a sympathetic ear. I've met a handful of you moderators, and I think those of you I've met are good people and hope the feeling is mutual.
That being said... Adam has privately been informed that he is welcome to sue me personally for trademark infringement involved with my participation in that IRC channel. I even offered to buy him a beer after the trial, regardless of outcome, to show there's no hard feelings. That was 2-3 days ago, and I haven't received a response. I'll be defending myself and looking forward to an expenses-paid trip to the New York area with the court costs I'll inevitably recoup. Which one of you should I be sending my information to so we can get this case started?
I'll let Adam speak for himself on specific issues.
Anyway, we're not the Walker administration, kdogg! This is a message board on the interwebz. It's all about festivals, hipsters, hippie dr00g bands, some basic sense of community, and random bullsh*t. There's no great conspiracy here. We're a bunch of normal people with real jobs and real lives, who do our best to keep this board together in our free time. Cut us a little slack, man. We're not perfect and I'm pretty confident there's something, somewhere in the written rules of the internet that allows us that much...
Didn't I just say that most moderators are probably listening to me with a sympathetic ear? Did I not say those of you I've met are good people, and that I hate sins not sinners?
Again... I don't think anyone who did not present themselves as an agent of Inforoo should be punished under the grounds of trademark infringement. I bring up the "so sue me" argument to illustrate that most of the people currently being punished for this would also have suits against them thrown out of court. If you don't have a case to sue someone for trademark infringement in a court of law, you shouldn't punish someone for trademark infringement around here. Simple as that.
I'm not asking for a democracy... I'm simply asking that our dictator be a benevolent one. I don't think that's excessive.
Reading this thread from beginning to end made me sleepy and now I want some corn........no, like I want some real roasted corn with butter, Tony's and lemon pepper from a carny vendor.

Just wondering where the trademark infringement is coming from. What did u use the trademark for?

I know you did and that's part of the reason I asked to cut us some slack!
You know as well as I do, that nobody's going to sic a lawyer on some college kid with our name on his chat. I'll let Adam clarify at his convenience, but the only folks who were temporarily suspended were the ones who continued to fight us on this. It happens. It's done. We'll hopefully sort out the situation of the other "political prisoners," or whatever exaggerated term you'd like to use for a couple of people suspended from a message board, soon enough. As far as I can tell, most folks don't expect, nor would they want us to hold this message board to some kind of litigious standard. Once again, it's a message board. A place for people to discuss things on the internet - not a public school, a corporate work place, or anything else of that nature. There's value to the name and since Bonnaroo tied us to their site, we try to save face where we can. Adam felt like the name was being abused - some folks cooperated and others didn't. If you haven't noticed, we don't have much in the way of options for trying to sort things out here. It's all a little heavy handed. We lock, we move, and we suspend. That's basically all we have! We do what we can and if that means suspending someone from here for a couple of days, so be it.
By the way nice Red Rocks avatar going to finally see my first show there this summer. Already got my MMJ tics and if i have the cash going to try to make it up for the Avetts and GPN too.
You'll fall in love. I'll be there for MMJ - the rest of my RR shows have yet to be set in stone. Yonder and RRE is likely for me. Hoping for a Furthur run. Not sure what else, though! Last summer, I think I made it out a grand total of one time - so, I need to rectify that this summer.
