Was able to catch Braids, James Blake, City and Colour, Odd Future, Esben and the Witch, and DFA 1979 last night...
Puzzled as to why none of these bands/artists weren't booked this year, because each of them would kill.
By the way, during DFA 79's set they were performing in a small bar (holding roughly 200 individuals, myself included), closed in by a chain link fence. Before they could hit the stage, the fence was ripped down, by the other pissed 300+ who couldn't get in...tasers were used, eyes were pepper sprayed, and my mind was fvcking blown as DFA destroyed!!!! Very suiting i must say...

I was lying in a burned out basement With the full moon in my eyes. I was hoping for replacement When the sun burst thru the sky. There was a band playing in my head And I felt like getting high.

That sounds pretty terrible. It seems all around, festivals have become sickeningly over populated. Does this happen every year at SXSW?

SXSW is typically a cluster fvck, but always a great time in the end. I think what happened last night had to do more with the band itself. They bring a lot of energy and their fans bring even more. Now try to maintain that in a small outside cantina, only separating the 300+ stuck outside from those inside by a chain length fence.
They were simply to big for that small of a venue and their aggressive fans do not seem to take surprises well.
Now add all of that + cops + the music of DFA 79 + small spaces = a cluster fvck (told ya so...)

Man I remember seeing DFA 1979 open a day long show on Olympic Island here in Toronto in I think 2004 and hardly anyone had made the ferry over yet. There were definitely a lot of "holy f%#ks" being tossed around by the small crowd that was there though. More unbelievably, they were followed by the Arcade Fire who played to an equally tiny crowd.
I can't say I am surprised by Grainger getting DFA back together, about a month before the start of the reunion announcements I saw him as one of the openers for Phantogram and he was Leno. It's gotta feel good to be back on top!
Sam Roberts just released a few tour dates, the last one being in Detriot on the 8th of June. New album + them being in the US already that week + them not being at Roo since 2007 = me thinking they will be added!

I talked to the drummer of Tim Reynolds and TR3 at my local open mic night last Wednesday. He informed me that TR3 will be added to the bill very soon.

I'd imagine long negotiations with TR3 is what's been holding up the second release. I'm sure they are hard to book considering their drummer was at your local open mic last Wednesday night...

Good news on Tim Reynolds. Screw the sarcasm from the haters. A couple months ago I got to hang out with Jesse Malin after his show in town. Karoake was going on in the upstairs part of the bar he played in. He didn't do any karoake that night, but I heard he has in the past.
