Specifically swapping MMJ for Daft Punk would just be criminal, if you ask me.
Of the headliner-size acts being thrown around for next year, MMJ has me the least interested. I just can't get into them.
I used to be the same way. One of my best friends from high school was (still is) a huge MMJ fan and has been raving about them since at least the time It Still Moves was released. He played me a bunch of their recorded stuff and I just didn't see the appeal. In the lead-up to Bonnaroo 2008, I tried to re-familiarize myself with their material, and still didn't get it. Then I caught some of their set at Bonnaroo and was completely floored, and they're now one of my very favorite bands out there today. One of my biggest Bonnaroo regrets ever was leaving their set after an hour to check out MSTRKRFT, Superjam and Tiesto, then passing by Which Stage for the last 15-20 minutes of their set and realizing what a mistake I'd made.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
MMJ is a better band. But Discovery is arguably a better album than any album MMJ has put out. And...if (GOD FORBID) there were a conflict between MMJ and Daft Punk, I hate to say I would have to go see Daft Punk simply because I would never get the chance to see them again.
After watching some live videos, I can say I support any movement to get them to Bonnaroo X. You guys have swayed me.
Wow that wasn't hard at all. It doesn't take a Bach to tell MMJ is a more worthwhile music act than DP. Glad to see you understand.
I'd still much rather see Daft Punk at Bonnaroo than MMJ, but I'd be interested in seeing MMJ as long as there wasn't a conflict with another band I'd want to see.
