what has happened to bonnaroo? this once beautiful and pure festival has turned into something that i honestly find completely disgusting. bonnaroo 2010 left me completely shocked and appalled. i was harassed by undercover cops, DTE agents, and coffee county sheriffs on more than one occasion when i was doing nothing but minding my own business at my camp site. i witnessed more than 15 different individuals get arrested. and you know what? don't even try to say " well, they were selling something illegal, blah blah blah". bonnaroo is a music festival, and that is what goes on at ACTUAL REAL NOT STUPID FAKE music festivals. bonnaroo is now a completely corporate festival that attracts fake mtv hipsters and scene kids. this was my 4th and last roo, thank you.
How is it for our own safety. It's like trying to win the war on drugs is for our safety. It's a joke. It's about money and control. The sad thing is not letting people stay hydrated at the expense of the almighty dollar. I for one didn't go this year and will never go back.

Please expand on this. Since when has Bonnaroo NOT provided tons of free water?
A lot of the water stations were not turned on in the mornings. There were too few of them to accommodate the crowd they had this year. When they were turned on, they were VERY crowded. I know many saw the line and said fuck it and did without. They did offer assistance and water at the medical tent. But by that point you are in trouble.
I am not going to say any more on the matter. Because my feelings are raw and my judgement is clouded.
Part of the problem was the heat. Last year, I never waited more than 3 minutes for water. This year I waited 15 minutes at least once. People were filling up like 10 water bottles. Drop the temp 10 degrees to last year's levels (meaning its not a heat index of like, 110 like it was yesterday) and things are very different.
News reports say that there were only 75,000 this year - "less than sold out" which is less than it has been recently (at least according to the statements they release to the media)
Of course I wasn't there so I don't know - I do know from looking at weather reports - it was HOT and I can see where they really needed to do something more than they did this year. Either announce that you could bring in plenty of water or start handing out water at random areas
Yeah, it was way hotter than last year. Heat index yesterday was at 110 and in the 103-108 range from basically 10 AM - 5 PM every day. The way I was really able to judge the difference compared to last year was this: last year I was in Centeroo most of the day every day, walking around, taking photos, sitting on the grass (not even in the shade!) and enjoying it.
This year it was all about just surviving from 8 AM when the heat made your tent too hot (even with an EZ UP mind you) to sleep in until 6 PM when the sun was low enough in the sky that it didn't kill you. It was most DEFINITELY hotter than last year.
The average high June temp in Manchester is about 82 degrees and the low is 62. Once the sun was up it was at least 85 already and when the sun was down it was above 70 every night.
Last year was actually the coolest Roo ever with heat indices in the low/mid 90's. This was tied for the hottest with '04 with heat indices around 105. (BTW, '07 was the hottest temp at 97 but that was the drought/dustbowl year with low humidity and heat indices in the mid 90's.)
We did break a record for highest overnight temp at 77 Sat night.
was it really that hot?? it didn't seem too much worse than friday of last year. the sun was brutal though
Friday I made the mistake of heading out early (11 A.M) and after a looong day battling the heat I was able to catch The Black Keys @ midnight but couldn't stay up for Kid Cudi and B.O.B. Needless to say Saturday I wasn't in Centeroo until 4 P.M : )

i know. there were NOT enough water stations. if anyone actually noticed, the filtered water barely trickled out. no wonder that poor kid overheated and collapsed. screw bonnaroo, seriously. everyone just go to wakarusa next year. i'm not even joking. they know what's up.
yeah seriously. a camping music festival is not a place where there should be sheriffs walking around campgrounds practically raiding people. it's sad. and those filtered water stations, what the fuck, you had to wait forever to get some damn water.
bonnaroo is no longer free. try scoring some mind expansion at roo and you may find yourself in prison. how sad. i also will never be back. you can find me at some real music festivals where the shit isn't so out of hand. look at wakarusa, first off, their porto's were nicer, the crowd was nicer, the scenery and camping grounds were nicer, it's cheaper, and you don't see kids that look like they're in middle school fucked up.

You guys all kill me, what were you doing to get Sheriff attention? I did not get searched on the drive in, and only mildly patted down on my way into centeroo. My campsite had unofficial bartenders who brought us Bloody Mary's all morning and Margaritas all afternoon. The water thing was an issue if you wanted the filtered but the old water stations were also up, and there was never a line to get into them.

i'm pretty sure that anytime someone is "trying to score some mind expansion" then they run the risk of finding themselves in prison. Typically it is a little less scary to do your buying at festivals but I really don't understand how you can complain about possibly ending up in jail when trying to do something illegal.
I'm sure there were plenty of people having no trouble expanding their mind........it's just that sometimes there are lucky ones and sometimes there are unlucky ones.

I have to agree with Jess on this one...I had TONS of chances to do every kinda drug imaginable this past weekend (People like to party with Pondo) and never saw anyone getting busted. I got searched one time coming into Centeroo and at night, one guy said "Your Pondo, I know you!" glanced at my bag and never checked my pockets.
The water situation is what it is...I do wish they had water hoses/spray guns to spray into the crowd (ESPECIALLY at the two big stages with little or no shade) but it was hot...at times almost miserably hot (wearing viking horns can be hard brother!) but I usually had water on me, my trusty B.A. Sidekick did usually as well and so did my girl Monkey Monkey (and usually a lemonade I bought for her)

I actually left early yesterday because the heat was just too much. I was caking myself with sun block and drinking water non-stop. It was definitely a hot roo this year.... I don't really have anything to say about the water because everyone has covered it.. I really think there should have been more shade at roo. We spent a good amount of time searching for shade in centeroo. And we would find people sitting pretty much anywhere, even in the mud, for shade. As for the drug thing...It's illegal. If you are coming to Bonnaroo just to get high then maybe it's time you found something else. A woman was searched in the side entrance to centeroo and the searcher found her pot(in her backpack) and told her he was taking it. She freaked out, saying anything like, "They let me bring it in yesterday! It's just pot!" So they are arguing and a group of guys in the next line start bitching at the searchers and ranting and what not. Finally one of the searchers said, "You can see where there are a lot of places I'm not checking, I'm not checking your nut sack, be creative!" He said a few other things but I'd rather not say them. haha But I completely agreed with him. I too had some on me but I hid it. If they did find it on me I would gladly let them take it.

This was my first roo I've attended, and as a noob I will say that while yes, it seemed like there were alot of pigs in the camping areas, that is no excuse for getting arrested. its really not that hard to get what you need. if your getting busted then thats your fault, unless you get nailed by an undercover. my only real issue with roo was the water issues. they at least could have raised the water pressure back up so poeple could fill up their bottles faster.
overall, i dont see why people should ever have a bad time at roo. as long as your prepared, you should have no issue. i had a great time and will be back next year.
Yeah, the sinks were my go-to water place. I think i waited in line for like 3 minutes tops on Saturday at around 2 in the afternoon when it was really hot. Any other time i just waltzed right in and filled my 2 bottles. Easy.
As for the police, i halfway witnessed a bust two tents down from my own. I had just gotten up and was brushing my teeth at the back of the car. As i rounded the car and returned to the shade tent our neighbor, who had been hanging out with us off an on and was passing the morning hours at our campsite, whispered "cops." I looked to the side and sure enough, there was a cop telling a girl to "just be careful out there, there could be a lot of stuff laced with something." Riiiiiight. I asked my neighbor what happened and he said the cop had just rolled by on his ATV and entered the girl's camping area. She had a bowl on her lap or the table or something, packed and ready. The cop took the bowl and the contents, and left without issuing any citation aside from that bs about laced smoke.

you guys are fucking stupid. have you ever been to a different music festival? they aren't like bonnaroo, let me tell you. firstly they don't have you stupid fucks running around them thinking they're so fucking cool. bonnaroo is ruined. it has been overrun with cops and silly little 16 year old kids. fuck bonnaroo.
