Aside from the Yankees struggling to pull away from a team that has a payroll nearly 2.5x lower than its own, there are other things going on in the world of baseball. One of those things is the decay of the Mets because their billionaire owners are so historically awful at running a baseball franchise that anytime the team starts to show promise, they do something to destroy it like Chris Farley tearing apart a biscuit in Tommy Boy.
Except instead of fat, cuddly, hilarious actors, they're seedy, selfish, arrogant, pompous *ssholes. *ssholes who antagonize their own fan base, their own players, their own coaches, and give their GM (who is actually a great GM) embarrassingly low funds for a NYC-based team. I feel bad for Sandy Alderson, because I think he would assemble a great roster if the sh*tty owners gave him more than 50 cents to go and buy a dollar's worth of positions.
Congrats on probably-making the playoffs, but believe it or not we can talk about bad teams, too. It kills a lot of time in the offseason. I realize my offseason started in August, but I've waited long enough to hate on my team a little bit.
Also, everyone on earth should be rooting for RA weenieey to get to 20 wins. he's got 3 more shots, needs two wins, and it would really put weenieey's season up there in the discussion for the best in Mets history (which, despite what you probably think, is littered with incredible pitching). I hate the Mets' ownership, but I'll always root for the players, and there hasn't been a Met easier and more fun to root for than Tricky weenieey.

15 days ago, Baseball Prospectus had the Brewers playoff chances at literally 0%. They're at 16.4% today, and Cool Standings has them at 28.9%. Now, I'm still expecting them to not make it, but enjoying the stress-free ride considering a few weeks ago they had absolutely no business being this close. However, when Darwin f*cking Barney hits a 2 out, 2 strike, 2 run homer (his 7th in 550 PA's, btw) in the Bottom of the 9th against the Cards to send the game into extras where the Cubs eventually win, followed hours later by the Brewers getting their 2nd win in 57 tries when trailing after 8 innings, against the team with the MLB's best record no less, it's hard not to feel like something weird is going on.
Also, the Brewers have gained 6 games on the Cards in the last three weeks, so I don't think another two in 11 days is THAT absurd, though the Cards do have the easier schedule the next few days.

Hey I accidentally fell asleep in March and just woke up. The Sox bounced back this year right? To get rid of the awful taste in everyone's mouth from last September right? There's no way Jon Lester sucked every form of ass this year right? right?
Actually, I'm at peace with this year and I'm starting to feel next year.
The Trade was a good thing for the Sox. It represented the departure of Boston becoming the new NYY. All those bloated contracts being dropped in one fell swoop was a legitimate miracle. Last time I checked, the Red Sox have a better record than the Dodgers since the trade, Gonzo is hitting 220 and Beckett is like 1-5.
Beyond shedding the names, I also have a lot of baseball faith in Cherington. Dude has a super baseball IQ, and a pretty decent farm system (I believe somewhere between the 7th and 11th). Couple that with all the money and I like the idea that he picks up some more prospects. So there are a number of moves that could happen this offseason that I like.
As for the actual core of the team, it's very young and very decent. Pedroia and Buchholz still have their best years ahead. The emergence of Doubront and Middlebrooks also has been pretty awesome. I love Ells and would be psyched if he came back for decent money, but in my eyes he's nothing but a cherry on top. I like Cody Ross as a clubhouse guy and a big bat that absolutely owns Fenway. Lavarnway and Iglesias both have a lot of potential and are hopefully getting out the rookie jitters as we speak.
The offseason will really be the most revealing thing about the Red Sox through next few years. If they sign Hamilton or Greinke to huge, dumb contracts I'm gonna eat my insides.
I personally would love to see the Sox go out and focus on pitching and young great prospects. I still feel good about this team and am calling a Cubs-Red sox 2014 series. And whenever I feel like shiz I can always watch Four Days in October. So I'm okay with the Sox. They've won two WS in the last 8 years, and zero in the previous 86. If this is what a rebuilding year looks like for this team then consider me joyous.
And there's always the Pats. They're doing great right now, right guys? Right?

I have hope in the future, just not 2013.
I will be pissed if they sign Hamilton or Greinke. That would not be moving in the right direction. They are both mentally fragile and could not handle Boston, nor should going back to nailing big FA names be a strategy they should use. Every major FA signing lately just to play catchup with the Yanks has busted. Gonzalez was ok, but with that contract he needed to be Miggy Cabrera in stats. Drew, thankfully he's gone. Crawford, ditto. Grienke to me would be John Lackey round 2. Hamilton is certainly talented, but one mistake from being out months. That and would probably be quacking annoying to be around in the clubhouse.

He's like you made an über troll by taking the worst parts of me (the utter disregard for other people's opinions), Phi (cluttering up threads with memes and adding nothing to a discussion) and Jess (an apparent belief that everyone else is the problem and/or arrogance without self awareness).
I go to IU so for college sports I'm a Hoosier forever. It happens to be football season right now so I'm pretty quiet re: college sports. Love IU football and I think it actually has a chance to be whoopass with Tre Roberson, but with all these SEC folks on the board there's not a huge demand for my ramblings on why IUFB is gonna be the truth next year.
My family's from Boston and I've been a diehard Sox fan my whole life. My first football memory was my Pops explaining to me that the Pats were the Red Sox equivalent in the NFL during the '96 SB, so after that I was pretty much set on the Pats. Bledsoe was my favorite player in my earliest football years. Fun Fact: I actually hated Brady during the start of the '01 season cause he was a goddam Wolverine and I grew up a diehard Purdue kid. I obviously eventually came around.
I'm gonna admit that I wasn't super into the NBA until later on, but the Celtics were my natural choice since I have those Boston roots. It was pretty much the arrival of KG and Ray that made me pay serious attention, and I've been pretty hardcore since.
I got into hockey like two or three years ago and its been Bruins just cause.
So to recap my pedigree of sports: Family is from Boston. Lifetime Sox & Pats fan, C's ever since I cared about NBA, Bruins ever since I cared about hockey. Grew up in Lafayette Indiana with a Purdue prof pops but betrayed the legacy to come to IU for school, and that's why I'm a hoosier. The Colts and Pacers are my respective second teams and I go to a bunch of games but I have New England sports in my soul.

My dad wrote the NYDN and was put in the "Voice of the People" editorial section:

The reason there are no lines for hot dogs and tickets are cheap is because nobody wants to see the Mets!
