snoop's show being late sunday afternoon may have had a little bit to do with it though.
the timeslot/stage is always an important factor. I've seen Les Claypool and Umphrey' McGee at Roo multiple times.
The night shows were by far better than the day shows....only experience/enjoyment-wise. The bands are just as talented in either setting.....but there's a difference between the two. Claypool in a tent was an awesome show, Claypool on the Which stage in the middle of the day was less fun. Harder to see him, hot as helll with no shade. Same for Umphrey's. It's hard to really enjoy the show when most of your focus is on staying cool and avoiding the sun.
Apparently Snoop's set was a letdown. I didn't see it so IDK. But i'm sure the hot temps and sunny afternoon didn't help much.
Maybe you are talking about another year for Claypool, but when he played in the middle of the day on Which Stage in 08, it was really overcast and cloudy. The show definitely had a dark vibe to it in the cool weather.

It's possible i'm mixing memories about how sunny it was.......but I do remember still being sweaty and hot. Regardless of that though, the timeslot/stage choice can make a huge difference for a show IMO.

yeah Umphrey's set in 08 in the afternoon on Which just didn't do it for me. And I'm a hugeee Umphrey's fan. I went over to Minus the Bear after a while and they were better for that time slot.
Umphrey's totally dominated late night 06 though, one of the best shows in Roo history in my opinion.
Thanks junkie. Oh, wait, that doesn't sound right...haha. Also, is it common for headliners to jam together (DMB and Neil)?
Not common......but very welcome.
Bruce and Phish last year was pretty amazing (depending on who you ask). I enjoyed it a lot and thought it was great to see Trey so happy. Plus, if you told me 3 years ago that I'd see Phish and Bruce Springsteen playing Mustang Sally together i'd say you're crazy.
Most headliners don't guest with each other.....but will bring out guests or show up at other shows. Kirk hammett from Metallica made his way to the My Morning Jacket late night show for a song and then moved to the Superjam for a few. Widespread Panic brought Robert Randolph up on stage to jam out.
Eddie Vedder came out with Jack Johnson for a song and that was real nice.
One of the factors is if the artists will be around all weekend. Some bands/artists aren't really into the whole festival scene and just show up, play their show, and leave. The artists that seem to "get it" are the ones who are looking to collaborate and play together with a variety of artists over the weekend.

WP has brought a lot of people out with them over the years at Roo. Off the top of my head, Bob Weir, Herbie Hancock, RR, Dottie Peoples and the Peoples Choice Band, there have been several others.

I know most people seem to think Jay-Z is a lock, and that may be the case. Most people are saying "if Jay-Z doesn't play, there are no other big rap acts they could get". I'm not saying he wont make the trip from "Isle of Wright" but if he didn't, there has to be someone who could fill the role of big name rap artist.
What about Eminem as the big name rap act this year? I mean he had an album out last year and another one coming this year. He just played the Grammys and didn't do any touring for the last album. I'm not saying I necessarily want him, I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if he was the rap act this year. And I think he'd do a pretty good job to be honest.
I figure I'll probably get flammed for bringing him up but I'm just saying maybe we should consider him as a possible headliner. And I don't have a source at all, it's just a random thought that popped into my head. If it pans out though, you know you heard it hear first ;D
Shows I'm Going To: May 22 - Conan O'Brien June 7 - Darius Rucker June 10-13 - Bonnaroo June 21 - Cat Stevens (Australia!!!!) June 26 - Eric Clapton's Crossroads July 9 - Ottawa Blues Fest (Hole) July 13 - Ottawa Blues Fest (Arcade Fire) July 19 - Simon and Garfunkel July 31 - Osheaga (maybe) Aug 18 - Green Day Sept 15 - Roger Waters

I don't think Bonnaroo necessarily has to have a BIG rap artist. they could have plenty of smaller, lesser known ones and it'd still be good.
I still have a feeling that this year, the biggest name we'll get is Nas. He was there last year and talked about how he wanted to be back. Jay-Z rumors were mostly started out of hopes and wishes but I really think Nas has a chance of being on the lineup.

it looks like he's lip syncing in that video above but its hard to tell because the audio could just be outta sync when it was recorded.. i think he'd put on a pretty good show.. i wouldn't be upset to see him on the lineup.. or nas for that matter.. i really like nas

I think that he (and other rappers) uses a backing track. It's essentially the same as lip synching, except his mic is live and when he raps into the mic, what he says actually comes out. So I think the song is played in case he misses a line or something like that.
here's what he said when accused of lip synching on Saturday Night Live:
Eminem has hit back at claims he mimed on American TV show Saturday Night Live, insisting he sang over a vocal track. Newspaper reports claimed the rapper lip-synced to his new single Mosh just a week after pop star Ashlee Simpson was caught miming on the very same show. A studio source said, "He was singing 'Mosh' and you could tell he was lip- synching. The track was just a bit ahead of his lips and he put the mike down at one point but the track kept going." But a representative for Eminem insists he was trying to "duplicate the sound on his album," telling Pagesix.Com, "He had a vocal track on for double vocal effect on the first song, to make it more powerful. Lots of hip-hop artists do that. Tupac Shakur did it."
the dead weather released tour dates today in support of their next album...the last one being jazz fest may 2nd. leaves enough time for jack+meg to get some rehearsing in before their triumphant bonnaroo return

I think it's more likely that we just see Dead Weather play at Bonnaroo.
by the sounds of their announcement, i dont think the dead weather will be there, they announced coachella and jazz fest, + dates till may...didn't sound like any more was coming? who knows though

i agree...we've seen both other JW incarnations at Roo...would be more surprised NOT to see them on the lineup at this point...
that being said...i really wish JW would stick to melting faces with guitar.

SCI would be a big draw and I expect them to be on the line-up, but I don't think they will be at the top of the bill. They are better suited for a late night show I would think.
