As I was taking some gear back to the car on Monday, I saw a wook who coulda been dead. He was sitting in a chair on 1st avenue and his neck was in an impossible position. If he wasn't dead, he was sore as hell when he regained consciousness. It's sad that people feel the need to party that hard and ultimately lose their lives over it. So sad.
I may've seen that guy. He was on Shakedown and had "DOSE" written on his head. Oh, 1st Ave... nvm.
My friends I camped with saw a man fall out of a porta-john Sunday morning around 2nd Ave. They said he was grey-ish blue and looked pretty dead, may've been passed out but kinda doubt it. They said he didn't move at all when he fell on the ground. They said the medics took their time touching him at all, everyone was all freaked out. Said it was a hippie dude in his mid 20's. Anyone else hear of this?
P.S. Notice on the news link that one of the deaths was METHADONE related. Damn pill poppers given us a bad name.

Gnossos, I read that article that said one of the deaths a few years ago was methadone related. That is a complete fabrication and bad journalism. That guy's death was from sleep apnea, he didn't bring a generator to run his CPAP and suffocated in his sleep. I wish these quacking reporters would quit making shit up.
The counter-culture as it is so-called is a really easy target for media and therefore they love to make examples out of unfortunate events such as this. Sigh.
For the amount of substance use that is incidental to music festivals, coupled with the fact the environment is stressful (heat, exertion, less than healthy eating and drinking habits, etc.), I think the relatively few medical emergencies, much less deaths, speaks to the relative safety of said substances. This is not to detract from the competence of festival medical staff, or the practiced experience with these substances demonstrated by festival attendees.

I think everything that happens at Bonnaroo is fine, but people just need to be more careful. My boyfriend thinks it was a mixture of heat stroke and o.d.
How do we know the dude even ingested any drugs? Believe it or not some people dont need or actually do drugs at Roo....I for one didnt ingest anything except beer Thursday night. Its extremely disrespectful to assume that he OD'd. If he did so be it, but if not then everyone assuming drugs were involved are just as ignorant as the media assuming that was the case.
Either way its a sad situation and the reality of having 80,000 people in the area under the conditions.

Well, being that most of everyone there is doing the NO NO WORD, I suppose we just guess. I never said "WELL, I KNOW THAT HE O.D.ED" No, I simply said that that's what we think. Yes, there are some people there who don't do anything there, and that's your perogative, but I'm making a simple Freedom of Speech suggestion. Btw, the tattoo came out fine, no problems from it all at Roo, and everyone doubted me, Mwahahahahahahaha...

I wasnt singling your post out just so you know. And Im glad your tat turned out fine. We werent doubting you....you were looking for advice/comments/suggestions, the board offered them. And if you were to ask the same thing today after Roo and your tattoo turning out alright, Id offer the same comments/suggestions/advice.
Just for the record, the tent OD that I witnessed and the man found in the tent dead after roo are two separate instances. The man I saw had a pulse when medics took him out. I was in the row directly behind him closest to the portos. I know they were selling dope out of their brown car because I saw others buy it and waiting for them to get back. Someone was trying to pry the trunk open the night after he OD'd. The girl that was there yelled at around 6 in the morning, "GODDAMN IT, RIVER! I'M NAUSEOUS AND I WANT TO GET HIGH RIGHT NOW!!" We gave them (friend and wife) a jump Monday morning and saw charred foil and syringes all over the front seat. I just wanted to clear up anything that would represent that I thought the guy found after roo was the same guy I saw. I haven't heard or read anything regarding the cause of death. Does anyone know if that has been determined?

Well thank you, but I am just saying that there could be several reasons for a death, and all of them are not pleasant, and o.d. COULD be a reason. Us thinking that that's the reason just comes with the package. You see so many people trippin when you're at Roo, and when you get home you wonder if everyone is alright and hope no one went too far with it, but it happens sometimes.

I'm not sure. I hope it wasn't an o.d. but I can't exactly say I hope he died some other way except for in his sleep with no pain or confusion. They should just be able to take a blood sample and if it's not druqs then they should be able to tell right away. They said there was no foul play.
Toxicology reports take a little bit of time, but the autopsy itself was inconclusive, so the likelihood of it being drug related is higher, but not absolute. It could have even been something as simple as drinking a little too much while on a certain medication. Whatever it was, it sucks.

I take insulin for Type-I diabetes. I don't reuse syringes, and throw them out after each use. I take an average of 4 injections a day. On Monday morning after the festival, there were probably 15 syringes in the trash bag we left at Roo. Had anyone looked at the trashbag, they would probably not think they resulted from the needs of a single diabetic individual. No doubt, they would've thought our camp was a shooting gallery.

The main thing they are waiting on now are the toxo reports. They should run every test and check for any drug or anything that might have been in his blood stream. Still with that being said, I still think there is more to the story than we as outsiders know about. I don't know why and I could be wrong but just a hunch. Has anyone heard or read of a location at Bonnaroo where he was found? I may have over read it somewhere over the week.
You must be a good Type-1. I reuse my syringes fer days, but then I can't afford new ones very often (yay no health insurance!).
I really need a sharp needle to lessen the pain of injection. I *hate* having to take shots. No joke, my nuts crawl every time I take an injection. New shots run about $0.25 each, so that's about $1 a day for needles. The insulin runs almost $80 a vial (Lantus and Humalog). For me, a vial of Lantus lasts about a month, Humalog about 20 days. Finger-prick blood tests run about a $1 per test. I'm not going to count the prescriptions I take for diabetic kidney disease, blood pressure and cholesterol medications... (Some of these meds are commonly prescribed to diabetics to delay complications of the disease.) More frequent doctor(s) visits are a given. Yeah, without insurance "good" treatment is unaffordable.

it could easily be diabetic or any other health issues. sure lots of people there do drugs and some go overboard with it. it is a miracle that there are no more serious problems/deaths than there are. but probably even more of miracle that everyone surives the heat, humidity and all the other elements we have to deal with and existing medical conditions. i don't think i would even go if i had a major medical condition. it's enough of a struggle without it.
i think the folks with serious medical conditions stop thinking they have one - i.e. it's just normal life for them - so why not go to Roo or do whatever else they want to do.
but yeah, it is a miracle there are not more deaths / hospitalizations considering the environment and shenanigans that go on.

I'm assuming that the tox workup was sent off to the state lab. Depending on their case load and whether or not this case gets any kind of priority, it may 6 to 8 weeks before a final report comes out. At least that's what we commonly see in NC.
Until then the press and politicians are free to speculate to serve their own means...
