If ole Buffet was to come to bonnaroo, I could see them doing a special late night set after Ben Harper since there is so much time left that night. There is your supposed superjam rumor coming to fruitation with his band already there playing at the beginning of the day. That would also sell out whatever would be left and have a place for all the people that came only for Bruce to have a fun time the whole night.
I honestly can say that this would be a fun show & I know my gf would be exstatic if this was to happen.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

I agree that the surprise factor would be a great deterrent in keeping Parrotheads at bay.
I just don't like or even appreciate Buffett. It almost seems like a very popular novelty act to me, one that has no substance. A surprise set would be ok, but if he ever got billed on the poster in the future, that would be the worst booking that Bonnaroo has ever done in my opinion other than Maroon 5.

Most Novelty acts do not have 30 yr 25 album history behind them. In fact that kind of makes him the opposite of a novelty act. Also love him or hate him, Buffett was a big part of the HST gonzo scene back in the day, and that deserves some respect in and of itself.

that statement (and wolfmans above) both prove your lack of knowledge of jimmy buffet. a novelty act? are you serious? and saying that he has 'no substance'? Did you know that Jimmy has written multiple books (which are pretty good by the way), done soundtracks, television spots, and opened a chain of restaurants, among a plethora other things? Like him or hate him, give the man some credit

I've never understood how people can judge an act without knowing them. Sure everyone's heard a few hits......but until you listen to a bunch of albums or see them live or do a little research.......how can you judge what you don't know?

I know Jimmy Buffett, I've heard Jimmy Buffett. From what I've listened, and what I've seen in youtube videos, he plays songs that cater to people in hawaiian shirts who go to one concert a year or two depending on Buffett's tour dates.
Jimmy Buffett is not someone that I look at from the last thirty years and say, "Wow they've contributed a lot to music in their career" there have been much much Much better bands who do a lot more than just write songs like "Cheeseburger in Paradise" "Margaritaville" and "Let's Get Drunk and Screw." Congratulations Buffett you write songs for frat boys, oh and look at this he was in a frat. I'm sure the pooka shell wearing populace that follow around Buffett would be excited at this news.
Oh and before I get more responses like "He writes books, or he opened up restaurants." Who cares? That doesn't justify him as someone I should like in the Music industry. Anybody with fame can write a book, and anybody famous whose most popular songs have either food or beverage in their titles can open up a successful restaurant in places like Orlando.
I'm sure he's a great guy, and I'm sure he'd be cool to have a beer with, but so are my friends, and I wouldn't want them to be playing Bonnaroo.
-When I Hear My Name -Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground -Blue Orchid -Passive Manipulation -Red Rain -Death Letter -My Doorbell -Hotel Yorba -Same Boy You've Always Known -Lovesick -Little Ghost -We're Going to Be Friends -The Hardest Button to Button -Black Math -The Nurse -I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself
Encore: -Ball and Biscuit -Seven Nation Army -Screwdriver

Well if you watch the Gonzo documentary there is a lot of good stuff there. My personal fave gonzo story of his, is when Buford Pusser (Walking Tall) Beat the crap out of him for dancing on the hood of his Cadillac in golf shoes.

All I know to do is give you alist of some his truly awesome tunes to Youtube, you can make up your mind about his "suitability", and I will give your opinion a lot more credit if you do. There are always bands at 'roo I dont like, but I try to give them respect. Also since when does being in a frat mean you can never be a musician? One more point here, the Parrotheads are possibly the most devoted fans out there, right up there with Phishheads, and deadheads.
One Particular Harbor This song epitomizes Bonnaroo to me, and it is the first thing I thought of the first time I rolled into the farm. Bonnaroo will always be my One Particular Harbor.
Buffett: "I had my sights set on Tahiti a long time ago and connived my way there through my good friend Tom Moffatt in Hawaii. We went there to play a show to an unknown audience, but that didn't matter. I had still made it to Tahiti. At the airport we were met by an old expatriated American named Hugh Kelly who had run away from home a long time ago. We became instant friends, and he took me to his home on Moorea in the mountains above Cook's Bay. When I looked down at the vista, the song came out as if it had been sitting inside me waiting for the moment." (thanks, Ken - LaSalle, Canada)
We are the people (Our Parents Warned us about) This song is once again almost seems to be custom made for 'roo In fact I have come to realize that not only were my parents also the people they were warning me about, now that I have kids it is the same for me.
Fruitcakes This song needs no introduction
"There is a thin line between Saturday night and Sunday morning"
Come Monday One of my favoritist songs ever

That's cool.....my response wasn't directed at you specifically......just a general thing i've noticed on many boards (music, movies, television) about people who say things like "I never listened to them.......they suck". I'm not the biggest Buffet fan either and don't know many of his tunes....I was just making a quick statement and i'm glad you explained your thoughts on the matter instead of taking it like I was making fun of you or something.

You know I was talking to my friend desdemona the other day she Runs this space station and bake shop down near boomtown. she told Me that human beings are flawed individuals. the cosmic bakers Took us out of the oven a little too early. and thats the Reason were as crazy as we are and I believe it.
Take for example when you go to the movies these days, you know. They try to sell you this jumbo drink, 8 extra ounces of watered Down cherry coke for an extra 25 cents. I dont want it. I dont want that much organziation in my life. I dont want other people thinking for me. I want my junior mints. where did the junior mints go in the Movies. I dont want a 12 lb. nestles crunch for 25 dollars. i want junior mints.
We need more fruitcakes in this world and less bakers! We need people that care! Im mad as hell! and I dont want to take it anymore!
and remember people......"If we wern't all crazy, we would go insane!"
This one might be NSFW it is named Ellis Dee, I am just gonna link it.
Ha-ha nice...I’ve never heard that one. I grew up with my dad as a parrothead and i as well became a fully fledged parrothead as well with my first show about 4 years ago
I don't know why anyone would be opposed to Buffett playing at Bonnaroo. Like I said earlier, he's not the most technically proficient guy or makes the best sounding music all the time, but one thing a Jimmy Buffett concert is, is pure fun. I'm always up for that.

There's sailboats and conk shells and palm trees galore, But Jimmy Buffet doesn't live in Key West anymore Sister spare change has a bumper sticker on the door Says Jimmy Buffet doesn't live here any more Hey smugglers need those Buffet songs, snitching on the sly Bringing heat where it's already to damn hot to die Son of a son of bitch, what's all that bullshit for Jimmy Buffet doesn't' live in Key West anymore
I pretty much despise Jimmy Buffet but I hope he plays because I know how happy it will make a lot of people at the farm. I'll skip it but I hope people have a blast at that show.
