Started having a problem I’ve never encountered before: when I turn on my turntable, the left speaker starts making a buzzing noise and the audio won’t play. The buzzing doesn’t occur if the amplifier is on and the turntable isn’t. I’ve unplugged and replugged the power cable from the turntable and the aux cords from the turntable to the amplifier, as well as rewiring the speakers, and the buzzing persists, still only from the left speaker. Any ideas? Is it something wrong with the turntable?
Have you tried swapping out the aux cord? That’s my only guess

I have an AT LP120; I’m not sure I can swap it out? On the turntable side, it goes up into a hole in the back that I don’t think I can unplug from without likely damaging the turntable.

Oh weird, mine comes apart. Other possibility is that the built in preamp on 120s goes bad some times. If your receiver has a phono setting maybe try that

did some more reading and it seems the most common explanation is that there's a ground loop issue so I moved everything to the floor, rewired it again, made sure everything was plugged in to the same outlet, and it's still buzzing. So now my entire setup is on the floor and I'll have to rewire everything again if I move it back up. also there's no ground wire in the turntable itself so I have no idea what I should do next. As you might imagine, I'm completely fine with this and do not feel like ripping my hair out at all.

it sounds like you're halfway to a performance art installation, keep that loop humming and put a strobe on it

try plugging into a power strip
I've tried it both plugging the amplifier and turntable separately into the same outlet as well as into a power strip (as well as trying both in different outlets) and the sound keeps going. I'm half wondering if the issue is one of the speakers is blown out at this point, but I'd be very surprised by that since I never play my records very loudly.

I appreciate the link but I’m looking over the manual and I’m not sure it’ll work since my amplifier doesn’t have outputs like that. I think I may just need to contact Audio Technical support directly.

what are the outputs on it, just red and white RCA like the LP60?

Or to ask the question in a different way: so I’d plug those things into the inputs of the hum eliminator, right? But then what do I plug the hum eliminator into? The amplifier?

basically yeah. Might have to get some RCA/XLR adapters but they shouldn't be more than a dollar or two. It won't look pretty but if it's truly a ground hum it will solve your issue

Hey folks,
I successfully pulled off a family Christmas at our house with the soundtrack being vinyl records (that I connected to a bluetooth speaker). It was something I wanted to push and it went over better than expected with a few various vamily members having memories or feeling about the old school approach. Usually we would have the 300-CD player just rotate through the Xmas albums but this year I asked if I could do a set up and it worked out.
Now, though. I need all your help and I also 100% encourage you to all go back through this thread and just quote/repeat your posts but my cousin's wife asked me for recommendations on a turntable and I had to confess that I'm a super amateur/noob on this stuff in particular and have been working with the equipment I was gifted years ago.
So, nothing super crazy or expensive but a mother of 4 who wanted to revisit some vinyl stuff and owned a turntable as a kid........what do you guys recommend? I literally said tonight "Oh, I know people all across the country that will tell us what to do" so now it's on you, Inforoo.

Seems like the Fluance RT82 is the hot shit right now for the entry-level-but-good market. I haven't heard one but it looks nice, comes with an ortofon cart, and is $300.
Beyond that I still think a used Technics SL-1200mk2 is a great option. Bulletproof and very user friendly.
Then there is whatever Audio Technica or Pro-Ject deck is within their budget.

Yeah, this is kind of what I think I'm looking for. They are not audiophiles or big vinyl heads but it seemed to interest her so I said I'd check in with the others I know that know more. Thanks!
Quick update on my end: the hum eliminator didn’t work so I think it’s pretty clearly not a grounding issue; I’m going to reach out to Audio Technica’s support and see if they have any ideas other than “the turntable is broken lol”. hopefully they do!
Does anyone here want to go halfsies on a slow rush box set? I want all the extra stuff but don’t need to double up on the actual main version. PM me if interested

Picked up a used copy of Jack White live at Bonnaroo 2014 box set for only $80. Missing the USB but near mint qaulity on vinyl and DVD is still sealed. What a find, some copies go for 200 on ebay. What a night that was.
Usually, I have an ounce of control but didn’t in this situation.
I saw this today in a local store and it’s only like 2/3 of the total set which bummed me out. No Magenta Mountain, Garden Goblin, Work This Time, Dripping Tap
