I wouldn't recommend taking anything just at 'roo, try something like melatonin or Tylenol PM (or generic), Advil PM etc. Try them before you go and see how you handle it, nothing works the same on all folks. Don't take any RX without a doctor's script and even then be skeptical. The OTC ones can be just as effective without the addictive side effects. I usually take generic Advil PM and it works just fine for me. I usually just take one tablet and it works for 8 hours. I have also tried the melatonin and that works for me too. I again take a really low level of it like half a pill. It knocks me out. The melatonin usually comes with B vitamins and calcium with it, so if you don't want to take anything different, just opt for some B vitamins and calcium to make you drowsy. Milk is good too since it has tryptofan (sp?) in it. Though I wouldn't recommend keeping milk in your cooler. just my .02

for me it's not so much the lack of sleep but the heat that gets to me. i can function fine with little or no sleep but the heat just exhausts me to no end. even if i do get enough sleep im still exhausted after about noon time because it gets so hot out there on the farm. what we usually do is either hide under the trees with a blanket to take a nap(be careful because bugs are abundant out there and some of them are pretty nasty) or take a nap in centeroo in the cinema tent(slept for a solid 4 hours in there in 07 and it was great) or just linger at the back of the stages and don't stand up lay down on a blanket for the first few shows you see (by the time the sun goes down and you haven't been raging it in the sun all day you'll feel rejuvenated for the dawning of the night)

^Good call on taking it easy during the day. I've seen some kick-a$$ shows just chilling in the back or on the sides. There's a great tree for sitting under while viewing shows at the Other Tent.
Don't mix Ambien or xanax with painkillers and you'll be alright. I'm def bringing a sleep aid, but I know what not to mix it with.
Uh or yayo, or booze, or just about anything if you want to be safe about it. Ambien personally makes me freakin loco. Hate that stuff. To be honest xanax is what allows me to get any decent rest at a festival. Note to Mods: I have an RX so I'm not condoning the illegal use of percription drugs.
What I think the best thing to do though is bring some ambien or xaninx to make yourself pass out and sleep through the heat
I like you lakai, but this is horrible advice. If you are no stranger to pharmies then do what works for you but some people are easily influenced then take your advice and have adverse effects/reactions.
I think if you need to sleep just make a warm glass of milk, call your mom and have her sing a lullaby to you. Works everytime, if you don;t have a mom, you can call mine.
the trick is to take power naps throughout the day in various shaded nooks in Centeroo. You'd be amazed at how a few half-hour, hour naps will energize the shit out of you... oh yea, and lots of water ;D
Here's my trick for morning sleep when it's hot. Go to the movie tent. It's air conditioned. You might have to sleep on the ground because the luck required to score one of those couches is beyond what we could hope for, but even on the ground you will be able to make it through the morning heat!
SSHHHH!! Don't tell a soul! Seriously, this is for inforoosters only!

I highly doubt a bunch of people who are debating the safety of tylenol PM are gonna go get all pharmed out at Bonnaroo...I get what you are saying though.

Try to take naps during the day is the best advice. Also try not to be too active during the days shows. I agree that chilling in the shade and listening to music is the way to go about the daytime at Roo. Night time is the right time!

I typically get maybe 2 or 3 hours of sleep at night... I usually would use the headliners for time to nap and rest, but this year I'm not sure what I'm gonna do...
last year thursday night was the only night i slept a few hours. After that i let the Bonnaroo ingredients take me the rest of the way. Besides the Sun wakes u up at 8 in the morning anyway...Tho i do thikn this years weather is going to be supurb.

Good god, I hope you're right! We've actually been cold some of the nights. Sunday night last year was really cool. It was back to being an oven by 10 am, but the nights are generally comfortable.

well according to the farmer's almanac it's supposed to be sunny and hot. it says about 4 degrees above average with little or no rainfall during bonnaroo. possibly thunderstorms as usual though. but we'll just have to see. the farmer's almanac is usually pretty accurate. if so it may be another dry and hot one this year.... lets hope it's wrong.

06 I stayed up all sat and sunday I was fine and raged as hard as anyone but I slept pretty much the whole ride home. I really don't need much sleep at times like that though, actually I kinda do that a lot I will go whole weeks maybe only sleeping 2 hours a night and be fine, then one day when I have the time just crash for a day.

NO!! This is really dangerous advice. If you're boozing it up all day, and ingesting who knows what else, and if you haven't been to a doctor who prescribed these medications, then please, please, please DO NOT take sleeping pills. Definitely not xanax or ambien, but I wouldn't even take over the counter stuff with all the other chemicals that may be in your body. I lost 2 friends last year who didn't necessarily OD, but they were mixing things up and they passed out, and then their hearts stopped. Please don't be stupid and mix things together at roo!!!
Or anywhere else for that matter. Also, if you must have a sleep aid, use something natural, like melatonin. Much less risky.
Melatonin is great I'd used it with my child years ago and swear by it. All natural, no side affects, would put his butt down in minutes and give him a great night sleep. I personally used it a bit last year two nights along with a half a xan. this year I already have my Xanny bars and am ready. I am not one who takes Pharmies either just use it as landing gear and it is oh so helpful at 'roo. But yes be careful and don't munch a bunch of things if you don't know what they are or are uncertain as to there affects on you personally. The plan of raging hard till 5-6 popping a pill and crahing as late as possible has always worked for me. Hell last year after Phil and Chali and CID I rolled home around 5:30 munched down and slept in until around 11. The people I was camped with thought I was dead...I guess in many ways I was ;D
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

The colder nights have a "bait-and-switch" quality to them though. In 07 I fell asleep outside our RV after Galactic wearing pants and a hoodie; so comfortable. Of course, once 7:00 rolled around I woke up sweating my ass off and it took me a good hour to fall back asleep, which only lasted like another hour or so.
This is always my dilemma before a fest: To prepare for the all nighters/general lack of sleep, do you - a) sleep less and less every night the week before in order to acclimate yourself to the sleep deprivation that is about to ensue while at the fest. or b) get lots of sleep the week before so that you are fully rested and ready to take on the crazy weekend.
I usually start out trying a, but switch to b within a day or 2.

i would recommend sleeping AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. sleep is cumulative, for me at least. if i get a LOT of sleep a few nights before, i'm much much better off when i get very little sleep due to the awesomeness.

^^^ Yeah, if you try to adjust by cutting back on sleep beforehand, all you're gonna do is build up a sleep deficit that's gonna make you more and more tired and sleepy as the weekend goes on. So try to get 7 or 8 hours a night the week before.

yeah, I guess I kinda wasn't clear I meant it as in if you're in that mind state where you can't fall asleep and you know you won't fall asleep at a reasonable time to get any rest, you know like when ur staring at the top of your tent and it won't stop talking to you. In any other situaton you're def right, the glass of milk and moms soothing voice is the way to go for sure.
I didnt really find any trouble pulling the all nighter and sleeping, it seemed whatever I did I wasn't getting more then 3-4 hours of sleep a night no matter what I did. I would usually stumble to my tent between 5-6 am and was usually up by 9 in the morning. When you wake up after so little sleep you feel like crap but after awhile I was wide awake and was good to go for the rest of the day.
I would just try to get most of your sleep Thursday and Sunday night and go full force Friday and Saturday.
