I haven't seen Walt do anything yet that made me lose empathy or hate him. I keep waiting for this "unforgivable" thing but everything he's done seems to have been done out of necessity, or stupidity, and I just can't hate someone for doing something stupid. Idk, maybe I have issues; maybe I'm a little bit in love with Walter White.
I've been watching 2-4 episodes a day to catch up, and I finally got to S5 e12 last night. I didn't know what to do all day today without any BB to watch.
My theory at this point: We know Walt lives and winds up changing his identity. I think he winds up broke and alone for the rest of his life. His family moves on without him. Marie forgives Skylar because she realizes how psychotic Walt is and how afraid Skylar was the whole time. Jesse figures out a way to lure the whole white supremacist gang to the cook, which he botches, blowing everyone up.
I really didn't see this show ending this fucking dark. I thought there might be a shred of redemption. The person I feel the worst for is Walt Jr.

"My name is ASAC Schrader, and you can go f*ck yourself."
If you are going out, go out like a boss.
I gave an audible "oh shit" when Walt told Jesse about Jane.
Once again, the last ten minutes of this show were so incredibly emotionally draining. Everything reached such a peak with the knife fight then that phone call... f*ck. That may be my scene of the series. I am really not thinking of anything that comes close. They will really have to f*ck up the ending for me to not rank this as my #1 show ever.
At first I could not believe how evil Walt was to Skylar on the phone, until I realized exactly what he was doing..
He KNEW she had the cops on the phone with her. She hesitated when she answered him and he knew she was with the cops. I thought it was weird that he kept repeating "I TOLD YOU NOT TO TALK ABOUT WHAT I DO! I TOLD YOU WHAT WOULD HAPPEN TO YOU IF YOU TALKED ABOUT MY BUSINESS! I MADE THIS EMPIRE, NOT YOU!" Then I realized, he was saving her. He was making sure that everyone thought he had forced her to silence by threat of violence. Marie might even forgive her after this, thinking that Skylar had no choice. Walt made himself the monster, so that he would be the only person to take the fall.
My prediction: As far as Jessie goes, he will be forced to cook as a prisoner. My prediction is that Walt comes back to save Jesse and might have to sacrifice himself to save Jesse. Jesse might even kill him in the end.
What do we think? Did he have the plan to throw everyone off Skylar's scent in mind when he grabbed Holly, or did her calls for mama snap him out of Heisenberg rage mode and wake him up?

I think it's the latter. He grabbed Holly to salvage some part of his family since Junior and Skyler were obviously fully against him. When she called for mama, I think it fully sunk in that everything was gone which is why he made the phone call with the intent of clearing Skyler so at least his family could have a shot at being happy even if it was without him.

Maybe those flash forward scenes that we have been seeing are Walt going to take out Jake's crew because he has found out they never killed Jesse and instead are enslaving him to make his product.
This show is so ridiculously good, there really is no show that comes close to comparison. If you are still rooting for Walt at this point, I don't know what's wrong with you.

I don't think it's as simple as that, man. Cranston absolutely slayed the scene where he was on the phone with Skyler and, while he's verbally abusing her, it's obviously destroying him and he can't even contain his tears. That was one of his best performances of the series and it's not totally unheard of that you'd feel for him after seeing that.
Yeah it is as simple as that. That was a great scene, and Walt letting Skyler off the hook was the absolute least he can do to make up for how much his ego and greed has absolutely destroyed his whole families lives.

I think it really comes down to how you feel about Walt beforehand. For those who want some kind of redemption for him, it's a reason to keep some hope alive for him. For those who already hate him, you don't feel bad for him since it's all his fault anyway.
Anna Gunn, RJ Mitte and Bryan Cranston (obv) acted the F*CK out of that knife scene. Good Christ. All I could think of was "Where's the boy, String?" when Skyler was asking about Hank.

I'm sure this conversation has been had in this thread, and since I'm late to the party on this show, I'll give my opinion now in hopes that it doesn't start a huge argument, but I don't see how Walt can redeem himself in any way shape or form. He started out the series as a good guy, with a noble cause, and an illegal way to go about doing it. There was a point, though where he no longer cared about his family and he cared more about his own legacy. He was willing to do anything to anyone who got in his way, and didn't care that with every push to build his empire, it put his family in more and more danger.

I think that is the main argument on Walt. Some think he is beyond redemption and some don't. It's all the same show we are watching, so it really comes down to how the individual perceives it. I think it will be interesting to see how the finale plays out because different outcomes will probably play very differently with these camps.
On another note, this episode totally lived up to the title.

Even that wouldn't be enough in my mind, the damage he's done is irreversible and there is no way he can make it better. Self sacrifice would probably only to make sure their situations aren't worsened.
Getting back to this episode though, I think we can all take solace in the fact that Jack's crew is going to get theirs. One thing that Walt has shown, is that if you piss him off, or cross him, he will make you pay.

I don't know how I'm supposed to go to sleep now. That was just insane. What an episode. Happy with how everything started out....specifically the follow-up on last week's finish.
That flashback at the beginning was a great way to open I thought.
I think Walt did two very 'noble' things this episode:
1) Offered all his money to save Hank. 2) The phone call to absolve Skyler of any possible legal repercussions.
I think Walt turning Jesse over was the "unforgivable" act that we kept hearing mentioned (that I mentioned we would see tonight in an earlier post).
I think Walt's main purpose in coming back is to save Jesse, though I'm sure Lydia, his family, and possibly the Czechs factor in to the ending somehow.
"I'm sorry for your loss" was probably the best line Todd has ever delivered ("Let's cook" was good too).
Well when he first took Holly I thought that was about as bad as it could be. But after the phone call I realized he wanted to ensure a decent future for the family he was leaving behind so it made it a bit forgivable. Turning Jesse over to Nazi-meth-slavery on the other hand...well that was pretty ruthless. I understand WHY he did it, but at the same time it was heartbreaking, especially juxtaposes to the opening scene.
After thinking a bit more I'm changing my mind I think. Walt doesn't go back to save Jesse, but does so inadvertently in his quest to kill the Nazis for what went down. Idk. F*ck speculating. I have no idea what's gonna happen in the next 2 weeks.

I disagree that his purpose will be to save Jessie. I actually think he will end up saving Jessie, but I think his purpose for coming back to save his family and/or recover his money from Todd's uncle.
He gave the nod to end Jessie on the spot in the desert. For all Walt knows, psycho Todd has done what psycho Todd does best, and Jessie is already dead.
I did laugh at the "sorry for your loss" line. I seriously can't get enough Todd.
