I went to Woodstock 99 with one additional shirt, boxers, socks and a pair of shorts. A tent, a box of Oatmeal Creme pies and 89.66 in my pocket and LOVED every minute so I can relate Leo.
I too now pack everything. I have a Battery-powered fan, a lighter (and I do not smoke!) 3 flashlights, a poncho, blah blah and blah...
Music fuels us as we continue to conquer the battlefields of boredom and artistic freedom.

Thanks for all of the posts discussing my little rant. I'm not going to edit my OP as it is an accurate glimpse into what was kicking around my brain at that particular moment and that was my goal. I did add a postscript suggesting that people read the comments as I think they are at least (perhaps more) valuable than my screed.
My over preparing more and more (and earlier and earlier) every year just comes from the need to channel all the pre-roo anticipation somewhere. It's become part of the fun for me That being said... I usually end up completely abandoning half of my prepared plans and have a blast anyway.

i think about roo everyday so i enjoy planning. if you dont like to plan then i think you should venture on the side of "not overpreparing". if you spend all your money on junk to bring then you might be broke for roo itself.
i dont think that an over preparer should force and under preparer to over prepare.
HEY OP! did you over prepare the orignal post. hahah im joking - i think OP is full of great information as was the survival information post.

Depending on the scenario, most people dont need to go crazy on what they are packing, but if you have a group of 4 people or more, its good to have someone who can get all the supplies together and is prepared for anything. I think the two items i forgot last year were salsa and spray paint, with spray paint being something i kicked myself in the ass for forgetting.
The main thing to prepare for is what the weather may be and shade sleeping and camping basics. Any regular supplies are expensive there, so it doest hurt to have anything you may need. Space is my limiting factor. I dont care what my budget for supplies is for Bonnaroo, its pretty much the most fun all year so i dont care.
I am about to update my ultimate supply list with suggestions and ideas i have got from various threads. MY goal is almost anything needed possible on one list. It never hurts to be prepared.
09 is my first Roo and ever since I bought our tickets I've been planning and buying a little here and there also planning and making my clothes for the weekend. Reading this made me feel a little better about being scared of not having enough. My husband and I are going with another couple and us girls really seem to be doing most of the planning. I am really excited and planning for the trip helps I might not go super crazy but do plan on keeping busy making some clothes and jewelry until June gets here! You guys rock!
I always under prepare, never pack till like 2 hours before we leave and everything always works out. I mean most fests I go to I just throw in the car a few chairs, an easy up, a sleeping bag, a cooler, my cot, and backpack with hygene stuff, thats it. oh and also other tradeable items, thats the key.
Yeah, but you didnt forget the moleskin! Fookin lifesaver!
Oh Hell's yeah! Forgot about that, I just about don't leave the house w/o a roll of moleskin. I'm mentally scarred (OK, not really) after having my feet reduced to hamburger (really) after 'stock 94. My 11.5 EEEEE's are NOT happy getting blistered, rubbed raw, infected, gangrenous etc. I'll have to remember to add that to the guide, moleskin is something I would not go to 'roo w/o.
I way overprepared for 08 and it was almost for nothing. I was planning for a super hot and dry weekend and ended up having all of my stuff soaking wet and the ultimate shade fort we built was pretty worthless and just collapsed in the storm.
Now that you mention it, having everything I bring fit in a single backpack (besides a shade canopy and tent of course) would be ideal. A big reason I go to Bonnaroo is to escape everyday life, not pack it all up and lug it with me.
I am a little late on this thread. I will say that the survival guide really helped out my first year. Especially since I had never been to a camping Festival. I found that I had a ton of stuff when I got there, but I was really prepared for anything. The next year I can honestly say that I really did not get anything ready till a day or two before the fest. The only thing that I did buy weeks before was a camel back that was on sale. But that was about it.
Over prepare? Well, I think it all depends on the person. A person who can let go of all their daily things for a few days and have fun, does not need to go all out and prep for 6 months. I will say the anticipation does kill me and just prepping a bit distracts me from how far away it is!
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!
What you're saying is that February is too early to have our car totally packed and ready to go?! So I have to UNpack now? What about the hot dogs and burgers that I bought? Are they going to go bad if before Roo if I take them out of the cooler now?
Yeah, but you didnt forget the moleskin! Fookin lifesaver!

After that I went out and bought myself a big roll (well big in moleskin terms!) and it went to allgood with me. Wont do another fest without it for sure! My toes thank you again Dr Leo!

I print out that survival guide of lucids each year. I then go thru it with a Sharpie and mark off damned near everything on it. Whats left is usually tent, clothes, money, ticket, sleeping bag, and a few other things I thought I could use. This year I added lots of beer. I usually don't focus much on my campsite because I am only there to sleep, I usually wake up grab something quick to eat I brought fill up my camelback ensure I have my money and goods and set out to go for a walk, that lasts till about 5AM.
EDIT: Also, any man who can look back at what he has said and say "Hey, I was wrong" should be listened to.
