Hey all! I am planning on taking my little brother (who is 15, about to be 16) to 'Roo this year. I am slightly overprotective, but I do want him to have a good time! Any advice on taking a youngin' to Bonnaroo?

I'm taking my daughter who is 15 and she came with us last year at 14. I guess it depends on if he has been to concerts or festivals before...... My daughter has grown up going to concerts and festivals so she is very accustomed to all the crazy hippies and the strange things they do
Just be honest about stuff, don't treat him like a little kid, and make sure you both have cell phones in case you get separated because that place us huge and packed full of people so finding each other is impossible without cell phones. And most of all just enjoy!!! My daughter and I have a blast together at Roo.

I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!

Bring him!! it be a blast and he would always remember the great time you both had and how cool you were to bring him along. Have cell phones or walkie talkies. Bring pics of each other just in case

in addition to the cell phones, it would be a good idea to always have a meeting point inside inforoo. Just in case your cell phones get lost, damaged, stolen, or just plain don't work. Make it something simple like left hand side of the stage or in front of the ferris wheel, somewhere you'll be able to find each other if you get separated.

I took my little sister (16) last year. She loved it and having her there wasn't an issue at all. There isn't really anything to worry about. Perhaps its the being from new orleans thing but there was nothing there any more inappropriate then she would have seen during mardi gras.
Aside from a meeting point, it might be good to have a meeting time (e.g., twenty minutes after the hour) so that one of you does not spend hours waiting for the other when you could be checking out music.
Also, the sonic forest is one of those open areas that is easy to peep from afar and is never so terribly crowded that you might miss someone there.
If he has a sense about him, then he will be fine. Try to stay as close as possible, without distracting from your own experience. Make him weary of the land markers (ie,, flags) etc. Like everyone else says...cell phones.

I was 16 last year at Roo. Like Seaturtle said, as long as hes got some common sense he'll be fine. I consider myself a pretty sensible person and I had a great time and made very few mistakes in the way of over indulging on all the great thigns Roo has to offer.
Haha, thanks for the advice guys. I don't really look for it to be a *huge* issue, I just worry about how to prepare him for the...ahem..atmosphere of the place? I know he can hold his own, and I will have friends with me. I appreciate the sonic forest idea, that's probably what I'll do. Last year I didn't get very good cellphone service (we both have Cingular) so we're definitely going to have to meet up a lot. If you see a very worried 21 year old girl with a 15 year old boy who looks like he's having the time of his life, that's probably me, lol. I'm just overprotective, but I'm sure I'll have a blast too.
It really depends on how "mature" your Li'l bro is. I took my 16 nephew to B-roo in '03 and we had regular meetups early on but by Sat. I just set him free 'cause he demonstrated he could handle it. We'd look at the schedule and set a time to meet for supper at the camp each night. We usually ran into each other pretty regularly in Centeroo but he had enough sense to be allowed on his own (otherwise I wouldn't have taken him.) He found a group of friends and usually just hung out with them.
I'd always err on the side of caution and be safe. Allow just a little less freedom than you think he can handle. If he's a normal 16 (almost) he should be okay.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
I brought my little brother last year and he got fucking liquier drunk at like noon everyday. He would also stay up longer than I could. I have a secret weapon this year tho (adderall).

hahahaha. Last year one of the "security" guards was insistent that I take some from him. I gave him the rest of a "cigarette" that I was smoking, and he wouldn't take no for an answer. I just simply told him I didn't want to turn into a big wet ball of mush from his little pills.
