Apparently, one of my friends bought a number of tickets to go see Pulp Fiction on the big screen in a couple of weeks, and one of them is mine. Nice surprise, I have always wanted to see this one in a theater.

I was thinking that this was odd that you didn't see it in a theater - everyone saw it in a theater. In 1994. I keep forgetting how old I am...
Kinda went a little crazy with some Blu Ray specials, over here...
the original Friday The 13th for $4... I could probably sell it to a record shop if I no longer want it for at least that, so whatever. The documentaries are interesting, but the movie still blows lol... but that's how I like 'em.
Platoon for $4... yeah, can't pass that one up, one of my favorite war films and one of my favorite Stone movies.
Cabin In The Woods for $8... love it, knew I was going to buy the Blu Ray as soon as I first saw this movie.
Jaws for $10... one of my favorite movies of all time, finally on this format. When I saw this on the shelves, there wasn't even a second of thought before I picked it up.
Jennifer's Body for $4... I don't know, I kind of think this is a decent horror/comedy... or thought, haven't seen it in years. Another case where if I tire of owning it, I could easily sell and not have much if any loss.

Beyond the Black Rainbow.
Not sure if anyone has heard of or seen this one? BtBR is a sort of dystopic sci-fi film from 2011, set in 1983, that focuses on the relationship between a telepathic teen and her psychologist all set within a secluded and experimental medical facility called Arboria. the film is rather confusing throughout but is really effective at keeping the viewer locked in and creating an overall creepy tone. The visuals are great, the score is phenomenal (both very reminiscent of Kubrick's films) and the lead male, who plays the psychologist is great. Worth a look (especially if you subscribe to Netflix).

I was surprised at how much I loved Silver Linings Playbook. Cooper and Lawrence were great and DeNiro hasn't been this good in 10 or 15 years. I might be biased, but there is a montage scene that makes brilliant use of Dylan and Cash singing Girl From the North Country.
Oh, and for moogfest DTI residents - Dr. Patel makes a heartwarming appearance.

I saw it last night and I wasnt thrilled. I thought it was overly cutesy and I didnt like the way the characters seemed only flawed by their illness. I didnt hate it though. I thought Lawrence, DeNiro and the mother were all great with the roles.
There are too many movies I want to see this winter season... Argo, Skyfall (not a huge Bond fan, but am a big Mendes fan, and the reviews cannot all be wrong), Life Of Pi, Lincoln, Django Unchained upcoming, and a good few others I can't think of just now...
I'm really wanting to see Zero Dark Thirty, as well.

There's a ton I want to see, but I cant wait for Zero Dark Thirty. Kathryn Bigelow is amazing! First she makes the greatest vampire movie I've ever seen, Near Dark, and then she brings Point Break and The Hurt Locker. I wont say Hurt Locker is the greatest war film ever made but I feel like it cracks the top 5 of what I've seen.
i saw life of pi over thanksgiving with my family, i enjoyed it. i read the book a few years ago, so it is always interesting to see them come to life. i thought i would be disappointed with the tiger (i hate super CGI stuff) but it wasn't that bad at all. the ending will definitely make you think.

Looper.
Finally got around to this and absolutely loved it! In fact I would put this up there with Headhunters as the best thing I have seen this year to date. I know there has been a lot of talk about Joseph Gordon Levitt's work in this but I wasn't exactly blown away by him this time around (He was good but by no means Oscar worthy).
The story itself is a great handling of a time travel narrative and the characters give enough through expository dialogue to make it all seem believable. I also really liked that most of the futuristic elements, in terms of set design and gadgetry, was rooted well within our current reality. Though the film's sub plot does slow the film down a little in the second half this pacing does nothing to set the film back at all. Not wanting to drop any spoilers, I will leave this by saying that there is a very cool montage that plays with possible futures that put a huge smile on this film geeks face.
I walked away with the LOTR Trilogy on Blu-Ray. The Shire is so pretty now.
Yep, I spent my Thanksgiving weekend in Middle Earth, too. I'm still wondering how they will stretch The Hobbit into three movies.
They are going into the whole backstory of Gandalf and the Necromancer(Sauron's returning form before he goes to Mordor). This storyline also ties into more of the history of the Dwarfs and one of their rings.
They can only use materials from the LorRs and The Hobbit. A lot of the Gandalf's story line comes from the appendices at the end of Return of the King. Which explanes what he is up to in the parts when he disappears in the Hobbit.
They can't touch on anything from The Sil or Unfinshied Tales because Chris Tolkien is a huge summers breeze.
Edit: quack, I just went full nerd mode on that.

Has anyone seen Seeking a Friend for the End of the World? It seems to be the only movie at the local Red Box that A)I haven't seen B)is on DVD C)doesn't look completely terrible.

I have. It'll actually surprise you. Just a fun story and a different take on the end of the world. It's by the director who did Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist so it has a nice soundtrack. I'd check it out.

yes i enjoyed it. somewhat unrealistic to have the two leads be romantically involved but they make it work.
