I was about to compliment you on a stellar suggestion. But then I saw this . . .
I like the way you think.
You know I actually thought the same thing. Here I had a good idea and jess has to go and trump me like that
I have really enjoyed the past 2 Superjams that were themed though a lot of people have not. I think they are gonna continue the trend, at least I hope they are. Just think Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Topper Headon with Warren, Jack White, whatever Marley brother we have, just rotating in and out. Pure farm bliss imo. I think a lot of today's artists owe a huge debt to The Clash acknowledged or not. Really they were the first band to combine Punk, reggae and pop into a new style of music. Something about 1/3 of the bands at Bonnaroo have also experimented with.

Oh dear God. You said Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, Topper Headon and Jack White in the same sentence. I would drive to Tennessee just to see that.
You are right, the Clash, despite their acclaim, are still underrated. One of the five greatest bands of all time, and London Calling is my pick for best album of all time.
Wow - I completely agree with every one of these suggestions. I still that we really need to wait a month until the initial lineup comes out before we can really begin speculating though. If Phish plays in '09 then I can almost guarantee at least one member will make an appearance at the Superjam.
Oh, I'll bite - Jack White / Les Claypool / Jim James

You know, since Levon Helm's set from this year wasn't a Midnight Ramble (but a Ramble on The Road), and his show is more or less a "super jam", I'd just as soon as anything give him free reign over Superjam this coming year.
it all depends on who shows up but I would love to see a slide guitar show down. Have Ben Harper and Robert Randolph in a straight up Dual, going back and forth on the slide guitar!! that be amazing!! you cant argue against that, two true roo artists going head to head
So the best SuperJam in my opinion would be the "Monsters of Folk" which was a tour in 2004 (?) that featured a joint-set by M. Ward, Conor Oberst, and Jim James.
I think if you get M. Ward, Jim James, and Conor Oberst... and get Calexico as the backing band (if not... the Mystic Valley Band would suffice)... it would be one hell of a show! And then you can bring up special guests like Zooey Deschanel, Ben Gibbard, Erykah Badu, Jenny Lewis, and whoever else those guys have played with in the past.
Have them cover the best folk songs... heck... they can cover their own songs too (which is what they did when they were on tour).

my ideal superjam would be a The Join superjam with the guys from The New Deal plus the duo, and from there add maybe a Biscuits member, maybe someone from STS9, Brothers Past etc until you just couldnt fit anymore people up there haha
and, can superjam07 ever be topped? i mean, ben harper, questlove, and john paul jones.... goshdamn!
Yes.....by the 2004 Superjam.
2002 and 2006 were particularly amazing as well. i wish they would do one like 2002 again with a ridiculous number of people changing in and out for each song.

I'd like to see some type of David Byrne/Phish mash-up play Stop Making Sense start to finish...The talking heads had like a dozen people on stage(including the Tom Tom club) for that tour so there's plenty of room for everybody...
Trey Anastasio Max Weinberg John Medeski Dirty Dozen Brass Band & Flea (Guest vocalists: Al Green, Jim James, Solomon Burke, Cee-Lo, Andre 3000) Playing nothing but old funk and soul music (James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield...etc)
The Levon idea is genius. How about Levon, Jack White, Jim James, Mike Gordon, larry Cambell, plus another drummer, a keyboard/organ player, and some horns. That would be amazing.

Anyone else hope they give info/hints about who may be in (or leading) the superjam this year like they did in '07 with JPJ? I know that most of the intrigue of superjam is not knowing.......but sometimes it's better so you can deal with conflicts and such. I almost left MMJ last year in hopes of Waits being at the Superjam but decided to stay........and boy am I happy.
I'd like to know at least who is leading it or some kind of hints/clues.

last year we figured out what the superjam was gonna be beforehand, somehow.... i cant remember who or how
but i remember all my friends wondering who was gonna be in the Superjam and i was like oh its Les, Kirk and the singer from Gogol Bordello, which no one really believed me but ended up being pretty much true.

we found out because a blog leaked it. somewhere there was an interview with eugene hutz (lead singer of Gogol bordello) where it mentioned that he had been staying with claypool and rehearsing waits songs with les and kirk. so everyone kind of hoped that was going to be true (and some even hoped that tom waits would be there to lead it). it turned out to be those three plus gogol bordello i believe.
idk if we'll be that lucky again this year to find it out before the fest......but we'll see
