* Kill Devil Falls * The Moma Dance * Sample In A Jar * Stash * Dog Faced Boy * Gumbo * Tube * Lengthwise * The Divided Sky * When The Cactus Is In Bloom * Bold As Love
Set Two
* Backwards Down the Number Line > * Ghost > * Fast Enough For You * Halley's Comet > * Maze * Alaska * Theme From The Bottom * Golgi Apparatus * Possum
I think that starting with this Asheville setlist we're starting to see songs that are less likely to appear at Bonnaroo. I hope they bring Moma Dance, Gumbo, Tube, Divided Sky, Ghost, Theme, and Possum back around quickly for us... I guess we'll see, several of those probably aren't gonna happen.
Watching the setlist roll in tonight is gonna be tough because, for the most part, if they play it tonight we're not gonna see it at Bonnaroo.

i don't agree with your repeat theory...they repeated tube in asheville and had just played it at camden, and there have been several repeats in this tour. plus we have 2 shows on the farm...if they play YEM in knoxville i can still see them playing it sunday night on the farm...ya know?

Oh, definitely. I actually didn't notice the 2 tubes in a row. There are certain songs that could appear in Knox and sunday night. YEM is defnitely one of those since they play it so often. But the likelihood of any song goes down considerably if they play it tonight.
That said, I bet we will get a YEM at bonnaroo, whether or not they play it tonight.
I just really hope they dont play Reba tonight. Thats the one song that I want to see them play the most and since it hasnt been played the past few shows im betting it gets played tonight and not at Bonnaroo. ):

Hey assholes who are going to the knox show tonight:
If you can't sleep after the show feel free to hit me up. My friends and I are gonna be going crazy with excitement if you wanna join us. We're leaving at 4am if anyone needs to follow/camp with someone. You can drop me a PM with your contact info.... see you guys on the farm!
just got to knoxville with the crew. About to get my tickets then hit the lot! 2 and a half hours from getting my PHISH cherry popped and hopefully the start of the greatest 5 days of my Phucking life.
I totally disagree with the idea that the shows leading up to Bonnaroo have any influence on the setlists and Bonnaroo. I feel like they will be different entities. For example... whatever I hear Friday and Sunday Im not counting out for STL and Indy.

Friday was a heavy hitter marathon, filled with songs that all the fans around me were wishing for prior to the set. The choice for covers was perfect for the slots in the set they were in. I started duckwalking on highway to hell and I lost what little I had left of my mind.
What a way to end the show with YEM > Wilson > YEM and then the Day in the Life encore. I actually wished there was a setbreak. The only energy I had after that was to find something to eat in the campgrounds and then crash.
Sunday was awesome. A lot of folks on the Internet have been bitching about the Bruce appearance and the setlist, but they obviously were not there. The crowd went nuts, who needs a superjam when you've got Bruce Springsteen and the Phish Market Band ? Other than Bruce, it was a show with some great funky jams, and I couldn't believe how many people were still there Sunday night compared to WSP from last year.
I also was glad to catch a lot of the new songs I hadn't heard live yet, I'm stunned they didn't play TTE, but no complaints here.
I also scored a Burwell poster (# 101/330), but one thing that pissed me off was watching some clueless worker in the merch tent sell a stack of 10 of them to some guy. There is now a seller on ebay with 10 copies of the print with a buy it now price of 500 each. I hope he eats everyone of them.
Can't wait for the second leg, catching 4 more shows! For you lucky people continuing on this leg, have fun and be safe!

Bruce came dangerously close to murdering a Phish show. Mustang Sally was pretty good, no doubt about that... but the 2nd song of the Bruce + Phish segment was probably the worst thing I heard on the farm all weekend. It completely sucked the life out of the crowd around me. Everyone was standing still, a few of them were sitting down packing bowls cause there wasn't anything else worth doing. The 3rd song they did was saved when Trey took control over Bruce and just kept raging a solo.
Bruce gets the goat award for Roo '09 for his shout "Play it... Mr. Keyboard Player!!" Puhlease... atleast know who you're playing with. That's worse than Sting thinking he was in Bonnaroo, TN
And Knoxville totally raged 1000x harder than either of the two shows Phish did on the farm. I think I would've been left just slightly disappointed if I hadn't been to Knox on Wednesday. That was the show to see!

Sorry to hear you didn't like the Phish shows Strum, or at least thought they weren't up to par, but Springsteen did not call Page that b/c he forgot his name.
That was a legendary sit-in, and quite the honor for the boys. I feel extremely lucky to have been there. Even if 90% of fans on the Internet have done nothing but bitch about it incessantly.

I agree with this for the most part. I thought Friday ripped. It was just straight rocking the whole way through; a really great performance. Sunday was a decent closing set. I really liked the first set of Sunday, even when Bruce came out. Mustang Sally was great. But the 2nd song they played, (Bobby Jean) was not good at all. Glad they ended it on Glory Days to get that bad taste out of my mouth. Bruce's performance with Phish almost made up for the shitshow he played on Saturday. Sunday's 2nd set wasn't as good as the first for me. I got kind of lost during the Rock & Roll jam and had a hard time coming back around . Overall I thought both shows were great, but Friday night was the real winner.

Lol, i don't get it either. It's not just this board either, everywhere on the net. hate, hate, hate.
The only thing I thought was off would be the crowd not being all Phish fans, normal show EVERYONE dances, here maybe about 60%, but that's to be expected at a festival, for anyone (see NIN).
Also a question for the haters, what was so bad about Bobby Jean? I was grooving at it on the farm, and then listening to it this morning after everyone crapped on it, and I can't find anything to complain about it. Good song.

I guess you can call me a "hater" because I didn't like Bobby Jean. The reason I didn't like it is because its not a very good song in the first place and also because it almost took the wind out of Phish's sails. I LOVED Mustang Sally and Glory Days. My feeling is that if you're going to guest with a band, you should be playing songs that cross over and include all fans. Both Mustang Sally and Glory Days fit the bill, but Bobby Jean left lots of people with a wtf look on their face.

I thought both Phish shows were fantastic. For me personally, the Friday set was the best I have seen them since '96-'97 (my first show this tour, seen them about once per tour since '94).
I haven't listened to the recordings yet, but I can't wait to hear Disease (probably the highlight of both shows) and the R&R>Light. They were nailing both Type I and Type II stuff, playing fun songs, changing things up in the moment. You can't help but be impressed by the sheer energy of the glowstick wars and I thought the crowd was great. It was also suprisingly easy to get a very decent and accessible spot over near the VIP hill. I had a blast.
I also thought the Bruce sit-in was one of the highlights of the fest. I am curious to see how it sounds on tape, but Bruce was shredding! I feel lucky to have been there and everyone where I was standing was flipping out and in awe of what they were seeing. For the record, I thought what I caught of Bruce's set was a bit underwhelming (I really liked Hard Times though).

I just gotta drop in real quick to say... I've never been a phish fan. I could never get into it. I never really 'got it' I skipped them friday. Went sunday only becaused that was all that was left. And ohhhh mannnnn. I was blown away by what I experienced. What a show. What an atmosphere. Best show of the weekend. And this is coming from a die-hard NIN fan.
I got at least three people who were either not phans, or avowed haters to go to the Sunday set. At least one of them is scrambling for a Deer Creek ticket now, and the other two had a look of shock and awe on their faces after the show.
That said, the Phish shows at Bonnaroo confirmed my fears about late-period Phish shows. It used to be that each show was an event - for better or worse, I would come away with an individual feeling for that night. At Bonnaroo, the setlists were pretty great, a lot of great playing and big-time songs...but I never felt like I was at a Phish show, so to speak. It rocked, but there was no flow. (Note by flow I don't mean segues.) Instead of it being an "event", it was just Phish running through songs.
I dunno...I had a blast, but something was off.
I think that you are feeling the effect of Phish categorizing their songs and keeping the big ones in rotation. It used to be that you never knew what to expect... it could be hundreds of songs. Now, you know you're going to probably hear several songs from a list of YEM, Wolfman's, Chalkdust, DWD, Hood, Divided Sky, Reba, Mike's Groove, etc. The purpose of this is to not only please the crowd with standard favorites, but to make sure that the playing is top-notch. Phish have a lot of material. One of their weaknesses has always been remembering parts. If they can get some of their complicated songs down through practice and repetition, then it should be no problem to learn new ones or to refresh bust-outs to inject in the cracks of every set.
The reality of the new Phish is that you will get fewer surprises, but more solid playing. Fair trade, if you ask me.
