I was just wondering if you guys thought that there would be any possibility of some Daft Punk? I don't really know what their status is right now, but I think they are one of the few remaining ridiculously awesome acts that Bonnaroo hasn't gotten yet. They could kill a late night which stage spot. Anyways, I'm just hoping for a chance.
I'd have to say that Daft Punk would be one of the few acts that would 100% bring me to the farm in '09.
Not to say that I don't love Bonnaroo, and there's still a real good chance I'll go. I just can't buy tickets without a lineup, but if Daft Punk is there I'm 100% in, and there's not too many bands I could say that about. Hell, I've come to the conclusion that Phish would actually make me not want to do Roo, cause I'm seeing them in March and am kinda itching for a new festival experience anyway.
On the same note, if Daft Punk is playing Rothbury or some other festival, I'm down.
That being said, everything I've read/heard says that Daft Punk is done for a while, if not for good. I hope and pray it's not true, I absolutely must see them live before I die.
i would say there is a definite possibility, but a very small one at that.
they are working on an album and if they follow the trend that they have been following it will be out March of next year (just a theory since every album they have put out has been in March and within a 4 year intervals. )
bonnaroo is one of the major festivals they have yet to play as well, which i'm not sure if that means anything but its something.
Man, Daft Punk playing all night long would be like a dream come true. I'm going to cross my fingers for this because I have a gut feeling it won't happen, but if it did it would be amazing.

I would LOVE this... i just wonder how they could top the show they're touring with now. I've never seen them live but their staging looks awesome on video.
Daft Punk is the one act I would LOVE to see at Bonnaroo 09. Imagine a late night slot at 1am on the What Stage after a blistering Beastie Boys set. Hearing "Face to Face" and "One More Time" blasting from the big stage while glowsticks rain down from everywhere would make for a memorable experience.
I know I'm in the minority here, and I really do like some electronic music (if done right, one of my favorite genres) but I absolutely can't stand Daft Punk. Since "Around The World" came out 10 or so years ago, I've despised them.
Now, I do realize that many, many, MANY people would love to have them on the farm, and usually I'd be all for it. However, you know it's going to be during a prime slot (late night Which Stage, if they ever got them) and I just know the sound would bleed into every set around it, at the time.
The only reason I don't want them on the farm is not that I don't like them, or that I don't want others to have a good time, but for the risk of me hearing them while I'm standing at a show I want to hear.
However, if they can come to the farm and keep it down (lol, I'm acting like such an old fart, I know) I'd be fine with it.
I don't think there would be an issue with the sound bleeding over if they were on the What Stage. The VIP campers would certainly take the full brunt of the music but at least it would be better than Kanye's set at dawn last year. I woke up that morning in the Volunteer Camp way out in BFE hearing him perform "Stronger" as the sun rose. That must have been extremely LOUD for anyone camping across from the What Stage.

other than radiohead, i can't think of a modern act this big that would have such a consensus. i suppose there's a few dissenters, but daft punk is almost universally loved. daft punk actually lost favor with some people when they released 'human after all' (including me), but then they came out with that mindblowing live show.
the atmosphere of their live show would just be SO perfect for a late night performance. they've performed it at pretty much every major U.S. festival except roo. come daft punk, show roo some love! and come on superfly, do me this solid and BOOK DAFT PUNK!
Yeah...those guys take forever just to put out albums, let alone put together a tour. I got the feeling that when they retired the pyramid that was the last we were going to see of Daft Punk live for at least a couple years...

Said but very true. Wasn't their coachella performance their first show in the US since before discovery came out? it had been 8 years or something crazy like that.

realistically, this is the case. the chances of daft punk at roo '09 are slim to none. but a guy can dream, and i'll exercise my right to do so.
they are working on a new album, which hopefully will come out sometime in 2009, if they keep up the 4-year interval between albums. but then we're probably looking at a 2010 tour, so that would be much more realistic for a daft punk roo appearance.

So now that the Coachella organizers have officially squashed the Daft Punk rumors for their fest, does that make them more or less likely to be at roo? They seem to be due for an appearance, and it would cancel out some of the *meh* response over Paul Oakenfold...
