Kanye's show is really the only story I have heard out of Bonnaroo. But I suppose Kayne would like that, being bigger than the festival itself. After all, that's what he seemed to want anyway.
Personally I think Kanye refused to be playing at the same time as anybody else. That's why his set time was switched, and it sounds like he went on shortly after Phil Lesh stopped rockin everybodys heads.... effin' tard of a move in my book.
Dude! That was Phil Lesh? I was wondering who was singing those lame lyrics. That was actually the only performance that woke me up it was so bad.

Yeah I know " I ain't sayin she a golddigga but she ain't messin wit no broke zaggin" are wonderful lyrics. Much better that anything Phil's band sings.
I'm not saying Kanye's show was life changing or anything, but I PERSONALLY enjoyed it. I know people disagree with me and may even dislike me for my opinion. My Bottom line: Kanye probably should have apologized for being late (even though it's only speculation on who's fault it was), but it's never cool to throw stuff on stage at a performer regardless of situation. Kanye and fans were both in the wrong.
In a semi-related personal story...I think I may be psychic....
After my gal and I fell asleep in her tent listening to Phil...she woke me up around 3 and said "Hey...you wanna go to Kanye?" I replied... "Fuck Kanye" and went back to sleep.
The next day, I saw my words spray painted everywhere....
"KANYE SUCKS! KANYE SUCKS!" (throwing hundreds of glowsticks on stage) The funny part is that by the middle of his set practically nobody was there, at least that's what I heard.
I also had the idea before roo (now wish I would of followed through) to make "FU Kanye!" shirts for Sunday because I knew his set was going to be lame. Do you know how many shirts I could of sold that day if I did that.
I saw him at Dancin in the District a few years ago and that show was better than this one, and that was one of the worst shows I have ever seen up till yesterday.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
I think it's bull that we can defend him in saying that it was set change, because originally there was an hour between Ben Folds and when he was originally supposed to perform at 8:15 they had an hour and 45 mins to set that crap up and to my knowledge he had his people there to help set up stuff, just like every band does. HIS PEOPLE KNOW HOW LONG IT TAKES TO SET UP STUFF. Truthfully, I believe had a longer set up been the case which truthfully is such a mediocre thing I believe someone from staff or even Kanye himself would have gotten on stage and let people know what's up. From what I heard from people since I didn't go to that show no one said crap which I believe is a cover up for something else. Possible he was crying backstage that 2:45 wasn't exactly dark enough...haha j/k. Anyway my point being regardless of it being him being a whiny over pampered artist which is unprofessional of him or there being a long set change which is unprofessional of his people. The entire thing shouldn't of happened and it was very unprofessional of everyone. When you have some people paying almost 300 to see him you don't play those bullhonkey games.
Fair enough with your arguement about the set change (even though you negate to mention that pearl jam went over scheduled time and the crew had to take down their lights and such). My point is I don't think Kanye intentionally waited till two hours after his scheduled time to start. I think something, whatever that may be, caused it. I think Kanye didn't apologize to the crowd because he didn't want break character from his show or maybe because he was pissed off about starting late or his screen being broken. Is that a weak reason? yes. But would Kanye really need a big reason with his ego? I'll agree that Kanye's ego is to big and he can be a jerk. I'm just saying I enjoyed his show and him being late wasn't all his fault probably.
Yes I negated to state the fact that pearl jam went over because it simply DIDN'T MATTER. Like I stated earlier when he was originally scheduled at 8:15 there only would have been an hour between him and Ben Folds. 1 hour to get Ben off and Kanye on that was the original plan. With the new schedule change and Pearl Jam's longer performance that time was still extended to an extra half an hour.
It may or may not be his fault but I'm also not taking for granted the fact that he's been pulling this egotistical bull'shit' for many years. Does everyone not remember the 2006 MTV European Music Awards?????
"It happened when Justice Vs Simian's "We Are Your Friends," not Kanye West's "Touch the Sky," was awarded Best Music Video. Kanye lost his anger and stormed the stage as French DJ Justice collected the award.
"F**k this! My video cost a million dollars," West said at the event, held in Copenhagen, Denmark. "Pamela Anderson was in it, I was jumping across canyons and s**t! If I don't win, the awards show loses credibility. Nothing against you (Justice Vs Simian), but hell man."
Here's the link to the rest of the article if anyone is interested.
He has no respect for anyone else in the music industry nor does he have respect for his fans. I've been preaching this for many years I'm just tired...SO TIRED of everyone constantly defending someone who shit's on everyone.
Yeah, I talked to several people who went to the Phil Lesh show and they all said the same thing that the earlier post said, that Lesh said he was asked to end his show early so Kanye could go on, so I would tend to believe that was true. I'm sure we will be able to hear when/if bootlegs of Phil's show are posted. If this is the case than I lose even more respect for Kanye, and there isn't much there in the first place. Phil Lesh is a music legend and, more importantly a Bonnaroo icon. To disrespect someone like Lesh is just tastless. I do, however, think that it is quite ironic than Kanye had his set time changed so he could do his glow in the dark show, yet his procrastination led to this being ruined by the sunrise.
Much respect to Mr. Randolph for standing up for Phil and for all of those who waited up to see West.
Yes it is a fact I was there and heard it all. Around 3:30 Phil annonces that Kaynes show is starting and that they will be ending there portion of Bonnaroo. Said "we do have an encore for you but that will be it" the encore was Truckin....really lame that Phil who is supercool (and showed it by allowing the baby to have everybody's undivided attention) cut it short for someone who has no respect for anyone else but himself. I have never even heard of him before seeing his name on the 'roo lineup and obviously don't give two shits about him but was going to go and check out his set anyway..why not its Bonnaroo see some different stuff see what the hype was all about...well I didn't because I certainly was not going to sit and wait for this bung hole. As someone else stated Chali from Jurassic 5 was on the other one stage at that time and was awesome. Laying down sweet smooth, positive raps with a real band behind him. At one point acknowledging the crowd and thanking eveyone for grooving with him when they could be at the baby's set. and I loved this linefrom chali "its late but we are going to do one more jam foe ya because hear at Bonnaroo I understand we break day" I got drawn into his set on the way home and stayed to watch until its end at about 4;30ish which would coincide perfectly with when egoman finally hit the stage. And whoever is blaming superfly for letting Pearl jam play a little longer...please..you have to be kidding me? if the baby's road crew can't set that stage in 2 hrs then they need to seriously think about what the quack they are doing. As for Randolph , I loved it , I agree with another poster I think he is just pissed that egoman would treat the "roo crowd so disrespectfully. I mean not to say anything to the crowd no sorry, or hello, or anything what a quacking bung hole.... and ok even if he had a good reason to be late and wasn't just being an egotistical asshole and was helping all the starving children in Africa by cooking them breakfast in bed he still should have acknowledged his crowd in some way. On the other hand Metallica was very cool about there being there addressed the crowd many times obviously knowing about the anamosity surrounding their being at Bonnaroo and put on a pretty ass-kicking show. James was very thankful and said they'd love to come back and play for 'roo anytime. "we are big supporters of live music"
I don't care what you say about me, just spell my name right---P.T. Barnum "As I was walking up the stairs I met a man who wasn't there He wasn't there again today I wish to God he'd go away."

besides the whole being late thing, I'm still pretty ticked about kanye switching his time in the first place. I mean, look at all the different acts that come halfway around the world to play for 50 mins in a small cafe stage in front of a few hundred people. I think just about any music act in the ENTIRE WORLD would take the time slot that he had.
By demanding a time change, kanye not only insulted Bonnaroo/AC/Superfly, he insulted every single Band, Musician, Act, or Performer that has ever been to bonnaroo, that will play at bonnaroo in the future, and every one that has ever wanted to play at bonnaroo

I'm not a big Kanye fan and yet I defend him because I really think he is getting unfair treatment. A few reasons your arguement is a bit flawed. 1. your obvious dislike of Kanye West makes you biased 2. Pearl Jam going over their time does make a difference 3. He originally wasn't doing his glow in the dark show when he was scheduled after Ben Folds
I'll accept that you don't like him, I'm just a little disappointed that fans acted the way they did. They weren't forced to see him. I realize I'm taking a bigger karma hit for defending Kanye than people who kept saying Zepp would be at Roo, but I just think that people are basing there arguements more around Kanye's personality than what actually happened (which no one 100% knows). EDIT: Also you're right, "Touch the Sky" wasn't very good.

I have no idea where to even begin with this... so I'm just gonna leave it alone. But let it be known that you have lost all respect in terms of your opinion on both music and songwriting abilities in my mind. And if you were being sarcastic, then you just have a flat out shitty sense of humor. That is all
a few of the best tshing thats could have happened to roo this year did: fewer ticket sales than ever before a total disaster with kanye
lets call this a "learning experience" and hope roo (who is just as much at fault for having/catering to kanye in the first place, btw) never screws up like this again.

the setup excuse is a terrible joke. Pearl Jam was the headliner of the event never mind the day. Pearl Jam should be allowed to play till all hours of the night if they wanted, i know everyone in that crowd was ready to stick around if they were gonna come back out to play for another hour.
acts following the headliner (never before and probably never will be done again hopefully) should not have any affect on the quality on the HEADLINING ACT.
if Kanye is so good he could have said fuck my light show i can go on stage with my mic and light up the crowd

Cmon people, this is rediculous. I'm so sick and tired of all these halftruths and rumors being repeated as fact.
Pearl Jam went over, Kanye was on a different stage, it was a very elaborate set. It was a clusterfuck. Do i agree it sucked? yes. Did it ruin bonnaroo? No. Everyone hop off the "I hate kanye" bandwagon and put on your big girl painties.

Ok I'm going to go ahead and give you Karma because I can't "punish" you because our views are different. While your arguments don't make me want to change my mind I will state that I agree that the reactions of the fans of throwing glow sticks and chanting "Kanye Sucks" before he got on stage was a bit much. I understood why it happened but it's Bonnaroo we are about peace, love and music. Personally, because of everything I've ever read, heard and watched from Kanye I knew from the beginning that I didn't want to go see him because I knew something would happened. I wasn't forced to go and I didn't. Although the repercussions of Sunday morning were more than apparent. While I didn't bash him publicly at the festival I can't help to open my mouth on a post based around the entire thing because my thoughts about him are somewhat validated...if only to myself. With that being said...yes I am biased but when you are in the entertainment industry you have to walk on eggshell's with every little thing you do. Yes, no one knows Kanye's personality 100% but when you enter this business it is your job to portray your personality to the fans and the rest of the industry. That's what everyone runs off of and unfortunately Kanye has not portrayed himself in a way that will give him good press or win over fans. This is why from the beginning a lot of people were upset that he was performing at ROO. It's hard to not be biased when you read things like what happened at the MTV European Music Awards. He chose to do what he did at the awards and because of it there are repercussions. The same thing with everything else he has done. Now I will be the first to say it, if I heard good things about his show, he showed up on time, he communicated with the audience he embraced the whole roo vibe than I would be more than open to changing my opinion about him, but he didn't and for now it's just another thing to put on my list as to why I dislike him. I'm always open for change but he just hasn't given me a reason to.

I felt a little bad for Kanye. And I actually still enjoyed his set. I decided to not buy into the bad vibes. I'm just quite disappointed I missed other good stuff because I waited forever.

I havent had the chance to read this whole thread. But here is my experience of Kanye.
I left Sigur Ros early to get up front for Kanye where my friends were waiting. Not really what I wanted to do since Sigur Ros was amazing, but I wanted to see what Kanyes set was about. So we get there and the people on stage are still fumbling around with the setup and changing panels on the screen and random crap. It looked like they had no clue how to put together the stage. We waited, they changed the start time, everyones buzz wore off, people started getting restless, we waited more, they changed the set time again, we waited, they pieced together the stage, my friends got tired and annoyed and left. Some poeple in the pit were having a dance party with a painted hippy girl, and it lightened the mood around my area for a while waiting more. Eventually Kanye came out loud as hell at 4:30.
Here is my opinion of the show: Had it came on at 2:45 like it was supposed to it would have been absolutely badass and he would have owned it that night. But since he made everyones buzz wear off and everyone was too tired to wait, people left pissed off, and Kanye came on loud as hell to a crowd of maybe 5000 or so, everyone else woken up from that set has a pretty good reason to be pissed off. Kanye did his set thats completely rehearsed with no deviations or addressing of the crowd. With that said I started leaving near the end of his set, and caught his last song, then the sun came up. and i went to sleep. I have some good pictures and videos to post later, but its gonna be a while. My biggest problem with his set was missing everything else going on, the end of sigur Ros, Ghostland Observatory and Galactic and Chali 2na which I didnt know Galactic was with him until afterward. I hated that part about it.
