The paper towels we have at work smell like a wet dog. It's really gross and distracting.
Are they the "recycled material" ones? I've noticed a lot of items in the workplace that are made from "recycled materials" smell exactly like a wet dog.

I don't want to be one of those people who hates her job, but I don't think I'm qualified to do anything else that will allow me to actually pay off my debt.

You are FAR from alone my dear!
I know. It's unfortunate. And really, I should be grateful to have the job I have and not some 95 hour a week law firm job, but some days all I can think about is how nice it would be to have a job that I actually enjoy doing.

See - I'm telling you - I love my job - I have always loved what I do - I love being a paralegal - always have - right now - I just hate where I am doing it - but...but...but...it's a Federal job, it pays ok, I have good benefits, time off, and am fairly secure (most of the time - moreso than a lot of people - at least *I* was deemed essential in the event of a furlough) I just work in hell with flourescent lighting and Satan is not even bothering to tempt me with anything anymore - he has decided that I'm not going anywhere.

So, today we learned that the second person this year has been fired from our division. When I started here, I was told that in the last 10 years, only one person had been fired, and that was because that person was crazy incompetent.
I've never understood why a regular person would want to buy a (rich) celebrity drinks. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Shouldn't their rich azz be buying me, the fan, a drink? I mean, I AM the reason your so rich, right?
Well, I hardly think it would make sense for me to say, "Oh my god! David Byrne! I'm such a huge fan! Why don't you buy me a drink?" Rather than being about money and who has more of it and why, I think the idea is that, as a fan, I would want to show him, in a particular and personal way, how much I appreciate his music. Of course, if I offered to buy him a drink and he turned it around and offered me one instead, I'd take it.
I was in NOLA myself a few weeks ago, for the Railroad Revival Tour. We went to Cafe Negril and Mumford & Sons were there. So I got my pic with Ted, and I offered to buy him a drink (after he asked for a light. I could have died happy right there.) He offered to buy me one, and like an idiot I insisted.
Point is...I bought Ted and drink AND he was polite enough to engage in some conversation for awhile! I saved the receipt like a loser lol but I'll never forget that.

Just went to my first summer class ever. Look at the syllabus and it has a big red Midterm on June 10th. Sent the instructor an email asking to take it earlier.

That stinks. I hope your instructor is compassionate. One of my friends couldn't come to Roo because her prof refused to let her take her Thursday final early.
some days all I can think about is how nice it would be to have a job that I actually enjoy doing.
I am employed part-time (half-time?) and spend an equal amount of time volunteering with the Democratic Party's recall elections office. Up until about three months ago, I had been working seven days a week between two part-time jobs. While I'm happier with my present arrangement than the one I had at the beginning of the year... damn, would it be nice to actually get paid. Just my view from the flip side.

I think there is a fine line to ride between too much and not enough. And happiness lies in between. I was much happier when I was a Social Worker, hanging out with my wine and hummus loving liberal friends, making barely enough to call it a profession.
But it is nice to be able to go to 4 festivals a year and an equal number of vacations. All the days in between bite though. I love what I do for a living, I just do WAY too much of it.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

It's all relative . . . and I'm self-aware enough to know that my situation is largely my fault, so I try not to b!tch about it too much. But three years of law school led to a whole lot of debt, and I'm not cut out for working in a law firm, so while I make a somewhat decent salary, it's not enough to do anything more than keep stringing me along, paycheck to paycheck. If I'm going to live paycheck to paycheck, I'd rather be doing something I enjoy . . . or at least have a hell of a lot less responsibility.
following is a memo that was issued by the facilities director at the hospital where I work...I was "swooped" last week...although it startled me, I immediately knew what the deal was. Obviously there are others who didn't quite get it and thought that Mr. Hitchcock was at work.
Please inform your staff that we have nesting birds at the employee entrance that actively swoop down near the sidewalk. Like most animals, birds instinctively protect their territory, particularly during breeding time. They are protecting their nests, eggs or young from potential intruders. Most birds will swoop within 10-20 feet of their nest. If they perceive you to be a potential threat, they may swoop. The likelihood of an attack is increased if they are teased or feel threatened in any way.
Tips to protect you self:
1.Know your local swooping hotspots (EMPLOYEE ENTRANCE)
2.Avoid the area. The best way to protect your self from a swooping bird, is to avoid venturing into their territory. You may use the main entrance if you do not feel comfortable entering the employee entrance.
3.Move quickly. If you must pass through the area – move quickly – do not run.
4.Cover your head. Wear a hat or carry a stick or umbrella above your head.
5. Do not harass wildlife. Don’t interfere with or throw stones at birds. This gives them added reason to see humans as a threat and may increase swooping behavior.
6.Do not destroy nests. This may prompt birds to rebuild their nests, prolonging the swooping behavior.
7. Don’t feed swooping birds.
8. Travel in a group. If possible, try to travel in a group in areas where there are swooping birds.
9. Notify others. Put up warning signs for others who may not be aware that there are swooping birds in the area.
It is unlawful to kill birds, or to interfere with their nests containing eggs or young without a permit or authority. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.
Regards,
Bill
I love this! Earlier today my husband called and said a Mockingbird "attacked" him as he was exiting the hospital for lunch. I will let him know he used the wrong terminology. He was "swooped" not "attacked."

GOOD LUCK!
I just sent my two professors similar emails. They haven't posted their syllabi yet so I have no clue what will be due that week. Classes start a day before I leave. Ususally there isn't much to do the first week and one of my professors is also the director of the library I work for so I think I'm good to go. May have to turn in something via smartphone.

Thanks, he said it shouldn't be a problem to take it early, but he would have to ask his supervisor. Still waiting on definitive word.
Wrong forum but I know it will get seen here: What does the final lineup on the 2011 cafe press shirts look like? I couldn't get an enlarged view on the cafepress site and it looks like all the t-shirt forums are closed. Is it too late to order one? Mods, please move this post if needed but please direct me to the right place. Kthanx
