I hope this hasn't already been covered, but if it has, I'm sure that I'll be pointed in the right direction. I am a second time Roo'er and first time GA RV'er. I did a little research, and found a post from right after the festival last year, in which alyroo says she had the opportunity to watch the system that they use to fill up the general admission camping area. My question is, has anyone else paid attention to the system? If so, how do they fill up the GA RV? I waited from 11am to 3pm on Thursday last year, and even if I can't avoid the wait, I certainly don't want to end up in RV BFE!! Any help is certainly appreciated. I personally cannot possibly wait another 20 days.
Well there's no surefire way to guarantee a short wait and a good spot. It's always a bit of a crapshoot. That being said, my advice is to aim to get into line at around 7:30 AM Thursday, coming in off the main entrance off I-24, or Bushy Branch Road from the WEST.
Here's my personal experience. I came in on an RV 3 years, 2004-2006. First year there was no separate RV camping, it was all mixed together, so that doesn't count. 2005 we came in Busy Brach Rd from the EAST and got parked in Zoolander, a good 40 minute walk. Not recommended. 2006 we came in from the West and ended up in George McFly, which was not too bad. The only time I came in the "main" entrance was last year, but that was in a car, and later in the afternoon. We had a pretty decent spot. Jabba the Hutt, I think.
Here's a map for reference. Borrowed from a post from bradaroo last year.
