"In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed."
Five years ago, George W did his crotch-walk across the USS Abraham Lincoln and spoke those words. Turns out almost 4000 more soldiers have died in Iraq since that day with no end in sight. Yet, people still believe the Republicans are better at national security!
After everything that has happened in this country the last 7½ years, if the American public can't see how they're being duped by the Republican party, America just might deserve its fate.
Why has this abominable act of arrogance not been more widely derided? I'm not one for "I told you so", but I could never see that we'd be welcomed with open arms, neither could I believe that we'd reached "Mission Accomplished" in 2003. I cannot think of any western politician in living memory acting so naively, never mind so arrogantly.
We seem to be more intersted in who Spitzer or Craig are getting screwed by than we are in recognizing who has been responsible for so, so much worse.
I voted for Bush for his second term and supported the war the entire way (then). In the last year or so I have been questioning myself. I have seen good friends go over there and fight. Most recently my good friend is being sent on a second tour after being involuntary reenlisted for almost 2 more years. The other night he looked me in the eyes and said "I'm scared, I don't want to go back." Wow as a friend what do you say to that?
The more and more I think about it, I don't think I can support this administration. For some people it was easy to not support Bush, but for me 2004 was the first time I ever voted for a president. For me voting is a very big deal, now for me to question my vote has been very difficult.
I think a lot of people in this country are like me. They are not going to wake up one morning and say "voting for Bush was a bad idea." It will be a number of small events that eventually lead them to that conclusion.
