Widespread Panic Confirmed for Bonnaroo User Rating: / 0 Written by Mike Greenhaus Thursday, 17 April 2008
Widespread Panic will now close out the 7th annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival on Sunday, June 15. Perhaps the festival's longest standing veteran, Widespread Panic has performed on Bonnaroo's main stage in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2007. While Widespread Panic was on hiatus, keyboardist JoJo Hermann and drummer Todd Nance both performed at the festival in 2004. The group was brought on as one of the festival's marquee jam acts after the Allman Brother Band officially canceled its performance earlier this week. The group's powerful, two-set Bonnaroo performances are known both for their energy and varied special guests. Over the years the group has welcomed Steve Winwood, Herbie Hancock, Bob Weir, Warren Haynes, Robert Randolph, Luther and Cody Dickinson, Galactic's Stanton Moore, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Dottie Peoples and the People's Choice Choir to the stage while performing at Bonnaroo.
In addition, Jack Johnson has chosen to join his friends Pearl Jam on the main stage Saturday, June 14, stepping into the slot vacated by the Allman Brothers. Johnson will perform an extended set beginning at sunset, shortly before Pearl Jam close out the day's main stage festivities. Johnson is close friends with the Peal Jam camp and jammed with Eddie Vedder at his Kokua Festival in April, 2007. Many fans also speculate that Johnson will join Pearl Jam onstage during their headlining set.
Bonnaroo has also confirmed a handful of new acts, including Les Claypool, who performed at Bonnaroo each year from 2002-2006. Other new additions include Jurassic 5's Chali 2na, Superdrag, What Made Milwaukee Famous, Adele, Grand Ole Party and The Postelles.

BIG announcement???!?!?? huh?
ok, i LOVE Les Claypool. but i expected him to be added anyway. WSP has played Bonnaroo so many times that they could be considered the "house band". and i'm still NOT into them. this "BIG announcement" is more like a BIG LETDOWN. not exciting at all. i really expected more....
i think i'm actually less likely to buy tickets now

You think that was just a red herring and we'll still get the BIG announcement later? That just seems like a replacement for ABB. Not something BIG they've had planned. If they dont announce something awesome for the superjam....I'll be going to the stacked and MUCH closer Lollapalooza. STOP GIVING ME THE SAME BANDS YEAR AFTER QUACKING YEAR BONNAROO!!! I get it alright.... they're great live acts. But there are other great live acts too. Quit short changing yourself with WSP. Bonnaroo needs to make up its mind. Is it THE cutting edge music and arts festival around, pushing the envelope for what a festival can offer on various levels, or is its just a distorted version of its former once great self regurgitating the same tired acts year after year as if the audience wont notice? Ive seen Panic literally 7 times and its all the exact same. Show me musicianship more than just wanking in E for 10 minutes. Wow Im really worked up. Listen to my animosity. Sorry everyone. Has anyone seen Todd Phillips' Phish documentary "Bittersweet Motel"? Theres a part where Page is reading some bad reviews and he and Fishman start talking about this one that a guy basically says Phish has reached the level of fandom where they can piss in the audiences ears and they will be there to record it. I feel that happend with Roo this year. Im guilty of it thats for sure. Ive had so many good times at Bonnaroo (to the point that I get a weird feeling when I get there and I see the sky above the main stage) and I think those good times have distorted my vision of whats going on. We got a sub par fest and Im not gonna ho hum skip around to it just because Ive had the best times of my life at this fest. To me...to a loyalist. This whole lineup this year is a HUGE step backwards. If I dont wind up going this year Im glad that my last roo show will be the blistering White Stripes set from last year.....because I SKIPPED the redundant Panic show after. Call me a hater. Take my Karma. Im attatched to this thing and its like my favorite uncle tried to put his junk in my mouth while I was sleeping on the couch.
