My fault for not getting them when I could/initially wanted to when they went on sale. I really didn't think it'd sell out, and I definitely didn't expect a $400 stubhub (it was $300 last week).
That's cool as shit. I didn't even know them besides name until I watched them from a festival on TV a few weeks ago. I found the show to be pretty captivating for a non-hype band that I didn't know anything by. Talent level seemed pretty elite. I still don't know anything about them, but I would like to see them.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ sold out NOLA show at One Eyed Jacks last night.
Holy shit!! Damn, had been waiting a few years for a chance to catch them and they fucking delivered. I am still destroyed from that show. The younger millennials were all going so hard slamdancing, it was so refreshing to get a great physical punk rock show, had been way too long. That was easily one of the best nola shows I've ever seen, or anywhere for that matter.
The War on Drugs were great. The production value was better than I thought itd be. It was supposed to be an outdoor show but got moved indoors, there was speculation it was undersold but it was packed inside. Got a good amount of Lost in the Dream, and most of the new stuff, played for almost 2 hours. Adam's a pretty great live guitarist, a lot of the solos went off book which you wouldn't really expect listening to his albums (with the too "one note" criticism). My gf knew basically nothing about them going in and she really enjoyed it. Definitely recommend.
...and my soul is filled up with joy. That playlist was wonderful and was a great selection from his albums. He seemed to enjoy the audience for the most part, too.

Just saw Solange at the Kennedy Center in DC. I had already seen her at a festival this year, but this indoor show with a rabid audience made the experience so much better.
If you have the chance to see her at Radio City Music Hall or later in California, DO IT!!!
And if you cannot make these shows and have missed her fest performances this year, you should cry.

I was sad it looked like my gf (who is a huge fan) and I would miss her, but we are seeing her at Day for Night!
Saw Broken Social Scene and Frightened Rabbit last night. Great show.
Caught them in Detroit at The Fillmore--which is a really amazing venue. Very much a bucket list show for me, to see BSS, and they did not disappoint. I highly recommend catching them on this tour if you're a fan.
The crowd was younger and sparser than I would have guessed. I figured Detroit being on Canada's border would juice attendance, on a Saturday night to boot. Also figured I'd be surrounded by other 30ish year old dads like me, but it was pretty college-aged. Either way, it made it easy to get unbelievably close for a great set list.
I don't think they have dates beyond 2017 yet. Hopefully they're still active on tour and on the festival circuit. Selfishly hoping they'll play Nelsonville (seems like a good fit), but they just played Midpoint in Cincinnati so it may be unlikely.
broken social scene, you guys. i loved the setlist so much. i listened to those songs on repeat on my walkman curled up in the school bus in high school. walking around my college campus and driving back home whenever they played. i teared up a few times last night, dancing and holding hands with my best friend and fiance, both of whom i met during that time. it was totally worth waiting all these years to see them again.
I saw The Lemon Twigs last week. If you love old school rock and roll, this band takes influences like Big Star, Badfinger, 10CC, Beatles, Queen, Supertramp, and Todd Rundgren, with a pinch of prog, and blends them well, delivering a strong 70's vibe onstage. (Although they sound nothing like Dawes or Hozier, they similarly attract a healthy number of Baby Boomers to their shows who enjoy the throwback sound of their youth.)
The D'Addario brothers, Brian and Michael, trade off frontman duties, and Michael has moves like Jagger, Townshend, and James Brown combined. It's nice to see an indie rock act that believes in performing, not just playing their songs. (Bassist Megan has the stoic Wyman/Entwistle thing down perfectly).
Here's their usual set closer, due to appear on their next record, a concept album about high school (according to what they said onstage, anyway):
(Michael's leaps and leg kicks are restrained by the radio station studio setting of the above performance. Give him a real stage and he's all over the place, usually five feet in the air)

I saw Wilco last night and they were excellent! Jody Stephens (Big Star) played two songs with them. They also did "The Waiting" (Tom Petty cover). Nels Cline is extraordinary on guitar.
Margaret Glaspy opened and she was good, too. I need to listen to more of her stuff.

You can't go wrong with Wilco live. They're never out-and-out bad and they're often great. They do have a habit of skipping even fairly large concert markets for a few years in a row, so if you like them, go see them when they're in your area.

First Wilco show last night. I think it's definitely safe to say it won't be my last.
They were fantastic in Asheville last night. Second time seeing them this year, ran through all the hits and quite a bit of new stuff. I'm usually just mesmerized by Tweedy throughout Wilco shows, but I spent the majority of last night just taking in Nels Cline. Dude is fantastic.
Went to the Ponderosa Stomp in NOLA @ the Orpheum last Friday with my pops.
VERY cool event, would def recommend. We only went Friday, but Saturday ended up getting cancelled due to the hurricane which was a dud. (Thanks Mitch!)
The Stomp is a celebration of the unsung heroes of American rock n roll.
The earlier acts were forgettable (Willie West, Winfield Parker), but Barbara Lynn came out and blew us away. She is like 76 and killed it with her 50's & doo-wop style guitar playing.
Archie Bell played some songs and he was a lot of fun. Roy Head came out and killed it. Never heard of him but check out a Youtube of "treat her right", that guy has some serious dance moves.
Doug Kershaw the "ragin cajun' is 81 and was out there killing it on the fiddle with his great country band. A lot of fun seeing him play, dude is a true Louisiana legend.
Roky Erickson played with an Austin band (I know the drummer was from the Bad Lovers..) doing all 13th Floor Elevators songs, which is why we were there. WOW. Was awesome getting such an intimate experience with those songs, as the floor was pretty cleared out by this point. That was def a top 3 set of the year for me. 2017 has been very kind so far.
The last band was The Gories, who I've known about forever but never really listened to much. They were great and the crowd was really into it, but it was like 2am when they went on and we were tired so we split after a few songs.
super cool vibe and everyone was really into the music, be on the lookout for this event next year.
Four Tet last Thursday was a fun time. Didn't stay all six hours of his DJ set, only the first four. Didn't want to hate myself Friday morning. My girlfriend surprised me by being able to go to the show so that made it much more enjoyable insteaad of dancing by myself.
Hunee / Ron Trent / Antal surprised me by how weird yet fun it was. The crowd was definitely better than the crowd for Four Tet at the same place the night before, everyone was going nuts. The DJ's kept taking turns playing songs, but they were all going hard up on the decks, I love when DJ's show some emotion because it rubs off on me too. I'm very glad I read so many positive things about Hunee before, otherwise I wouldn't have even known to check it out.
Nicolas Jaar last night was intense as fuck. I didn't think his intro was that drawn out, but it was definitely off-putting. He puts on the kind of high energy show that's weird enough yet dancey enough that would be perfect for a Late Night at Bonnaroo over someone like Russ or Snails. Glad I got to finally see him before he stops touring for a minute. I showed up a little late so I didn't get to see the beginning of Yves Tumor, only the last 30 minutes. When we first walked in my girlfriend goes, "Oh, this is scary yet interesting." We ended up saying that every five minutes. His volume was so much louder than Nico, I feel bad for anyone who didn't have earplugs. He kept walking around the crowd while his beats would play and scream/sing at people in the audience for almost every song, it was very personal. His newest album did not sound like that so I was not ready for it all, although I haven't listened to anything prior to that. Overall three great shows in a short amount of time.
Queens of The Stone Age was pretty sweet last night and Royal Blood was fun too. I think Red Rocks is a kinda bad venue for that type of show though, since you can't mosh at all. Josh was really fucked up and said he ate mushrooms. Royal Blood's old songs are so much better than their new songs.
Gorillaz were incredible last night! Most definitely one of the top shows of the year for me. The visuals were awesome and I really enjoyed the setlist as well. Damon sounded fantastic. I couldn't believe it when they busted out Some Kind of Nature. Only thing that really let me down was not getting to hear Empire Ants, but I wasn't really counting on that one. Really hoping I get to see them again soon.
Saw KMFDM in nola for the first time...was not disappointed!
but before that I got into the sold out Greta Van Fleet show at One Eyed Jacks. They are the real deal, shit is crazy! Like early 70's Zeppelin. Go see them ASAP in tiny venues while you still can
Had an interesting experience at Kaleo last night. Early in the show I thought to myself several times "Man, their tone would be great to cover Nancy Sinatra's 'Bang Bang'." And sure enough, later in the show I start to hear the intro to it and was just "Holy shit, they're actually covering it!". I had no clue the song was in their repertoire and I hadn't looked at previous setlists or anything like that. They just happened to cover the one random song I thought they would sound good covering.

Saw LCD Soundsystem for the first time the other night at The Anthem in D.C. I didn’t know what to expect but they were awesome. I definitely recommend seeing them if you haven’t.
