Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
1. Why didn't you get some food on shakedown? A dollar for a grilled cheese isn't exactly the most expensive sustainance. 2. If the noise was that obsecene, why didn't you move to tent only or wear earplugs? 3. If you got there knowing full well the festival hadn't started, why would you complain about lack of stuff to do?
uh tent only is no solution to the noise problem. i am not complaining at all. i love the noisy party. i only slept a few hours the whole weekend anyways. but i was 50 feet from the tent only fence and i can assure that the noise is everyehere at roo if you cant handle the noise the only solution is to do the hotel thing. ive heard the koa campground is quiet from a couple of people though ive never been there myself
Camp inforoo got pretty quiet round 3:00 am every night, plenty of time to wake up at 10:00 am and enjoy yourself...plus, earplugs+towel solves most problems in my experience.
as for the food and nothing to do your completely right. there are simple solutions to that. buy grilled cheeses or 1-2 dollar campgorund burgers and hotdogs. and as for nothing to do. were you at the same roo i was? i didnt get nearly enough time to do everything. we were completley setup by 9 am thursday and killed the whole day drinking and checking out shakedown. and just partying with our neighbors. i guees some people come expecting a chill camping scenario and thats definitly not what happens at roo
earplugs are what saved me from the drunk frat idiots next to my tent on sunday night.
he actually yelled at one point "i dont care if youre sleeping in your tents - we're at bonnar0000@!#". i was contemplating a "stfu" but i figured they might pee on my tent or something...
2 earplugs later and they were just a muffled whisper...
I so 100% planned to do all of the late nights, they were maybe the reason I planned to do this at all, and I never came close to having the energy for it.

Or the faint of stamina.
Bonnaroo is no joke - its hard work and you just have to pull up the bootstraps and make it happen. When I awoke on Sunday my initial reaction was "scew all the bands - I just need to get my shit together in time for PHIL" Guess what - 2 hours later I was front and center for Colonel Bruce Hampton and managed to see bands in every time slot.
i fifnd that every year ya go it gets better. i only saw 8 bands in 04, like12 in 05 and i saw over 25 this year. i saw everything i wanted to exept for moe. i fell asleep at streets and missed it. i did hear the second half from camp though and it sounded sweet. once you know what to expect you can manage a lot better. my bigest recommendations are to come in off of 24 west at 6-10am on thursday and youll be close to centeroo. try to take it easy in the daytime if your feeling rough. i know there are great bands in the day. but take it easy. find a shady spot or a mist tent. drink tons of water and gatorade. late night is where it is at for roo. ya gotta have energy for it. the temp goes down. you can dance like a freek all night long. and the headliners/latenights are always the cream of the crop at roo. i would have loved to be up front for buddy guy and others but ichilled back in the shade prepping for latenigh and i dont regret it all. all of the best shows isaw were latenights. and dont be afraid to find a treee in centeroo and lay back for a nap. i did it a few times. i know ya feel like you gotta do everything but its really not possible. well i hope that some of you who didnt have the most enjoyable time give it another shot. and if ya just cant bring yourself to suffer through again try an rv or a hotel shuttle package. you dont want to miss roo!! i promise. find a way to make it work!!!

Last year was my first year. Loved every minute, but I did learn a few things. 1. Earplugs are your best friend if your a light sleeper. 2. We bought tent fans from target. $25 and they had multiple speeds,a light, and magnet mount for hanging. 3. RED BULL! RED BULL! RED BULL! We went through 1 1/2 cases of red bull for the four people in my group. It helps get you motivated in the mornings and back inside for late night fun. 4. BABY WIPES! Last year we brought 1 box and ran out. This year we brought 4 boxes and came home with only 1 1/2. Best way to get all that sunscreen off without taking an ice cold shower late at night. Plus, you smell like a baby!!!

Thanks dude, much lucid info in that post. I agree, I don't *want* to miss it, it's just that I DID miss it even though I was there. The pacing thing is quite valid, because late night WAS what I intended to be there for, ha ha what a fool I was, there was no chance of that happening.
And yes, the Red Bull idea has also crossed my mind...
We hit up the coffee stand every night and caught a great buzz that kept us going pretty late. I wish we had figured that out last year!
wbennettjr, I haven't had a chance to comment on your thoughts about Bonnaroo, but I can say we felt the exact same way about last year. We never smiled while we were there and we were miserable. On the ride home, we came to realize what Roo was all about and started preparing for '06. The main thing that made this year's Roo flawless and full of smiling faces was VIP. Check into it, you may find that '07 will be the year you smile through Roo.

Just for a question: was '05 the first year they put any bands on Thursday night? I was there in 2005 and I seem to remember vets saying that previously there wasn't a lineup before. But I'm not sure.
I was in VIP and can verify the early What Stage soundchecks... but usually it startled me a bit and then I went back into my stupor. Sucks it didn't work out for you man. Thanks for the story though.
I had to think about this one...in 2003 I saw Antibalas on Thursday night, and they played again Friday morning. That was my first year, unfortunately I couldn't go for the 1st roo. As far as I can remember there are always bands on Thursday night... anyone remember Peelander Z?

Last year they did have bands playing but they didn't promote it, until you actually got to bonnaroo. and If I recall they events started later.
I really liked getting there early on thusday and meeting and greeting and then going out thursday night for a bit.
There has always been music on Thursday night as far back as '03 at least. I remember the pink floyd cover band "The Machine" played that night amongst other bands. I actually had the most fun at bonnaroo the first year I went in '03. I was so unprepared and had no clue what to expect but I ended up having the most fun. We had run out of food by Friday morning and didn't have a cooler at all. We also didn't have any shade and I got the worst sunburn on my neck. We ended up leaving the bonnaroo grounds and walking to a farm a few yards down the road and got an ice cold watermelon for $2. Ended up going back for another the next day and pretty much lived on that for a few days. I think being so unprepared was half the fun, although I don't know why that is but something about that first time was more fun than '04 and '05.
I really don't know when they announced thursday night bands last year but I remember knowing a week or two ahead of time that Perpetual Groove and Gabby LaLa were playing Thursday night. I don't remember if that was announced though, I could have gotten that from the band's website or another msg board.

This was my first Roo at 43 and although I was advised against it on this board, I got a hotel in Tullahoma. Started with The Motet, saw much of what I planned, caught some surprises and cut out right after Sonic Youth. They never really had the day parking figured out until Sunday but I was able to fend for myself and get in and out with little wait each time...nobody messes with a rented Lincoln Some local folks had their two SUVs boxed-in on Saturday and I suggested that we pick up a car and move it, that was fun! It's amazing what you can talk people into whilest wearing a jester cap. Wonder if the owner of the car we moved even noticed it was sideways?????
Anyhow...getting off topic: I slept in until noon each day, started with a hearty breakfast, missed the oppresive peak heat and partied my azz off until 3AM. It involved a lot of walking but that only bothered my friend who is 10 yrs younger (being a fat guy).
I knew that I would need to escape to get my rest and not be a jackass to fellow Rooers. Sure, I missed a few acts that I wanted to see, but I saw Liquidrone and the Bingo show a few times and had a rip-roaring good time....and way too many other great things to mention.
So, if it's in Manchester again it's either RV/VIP or Tullahoma just 15 minutes away (tip: the police don't give a second look at a law abiding Lincoln).
it sucked reading that guys post about having such a bad time. but I guess Roo is just not for him. I expreienced pretty much everything he did, yet had the time of my life. People yelling all the time, sound checks in the early morning.. noise all the time, isn't that what bonnaroo is all about?!
the only thing I was really pissed about; I was up so late and parting thrusday and friday that I missed the late night sets on saturday. I was way to tired. I tried staying to see who was at the superjam.. but just couldn't make it.
the heat was pretty bad.. but that made the rain sunday night all the more better right?! can't wait for next year Bonnaroo!!!!!!!!!

What do you do thursday for 10 hours of no music? party. Have fun. Don't mope. I-nine was absotely terrible in my opinion and we left after 5 minutes to see the Motet, which was one of my favorite sets all weekend. I think a lot of your problem was lack of flexibility, coffee, and happiness. I had a great time, despite being affected by all the things you mentioned.
On thursday when i got to bonnaroo i was talking to my fellow bonnaroo'ers and they told me that the venue was sold to Mtv and that Mtv was taking over next year. I decided that I was not going to go again. Then the last night i went and talked to the Head Orgaizer and asked him if it was true and he said that "no way, that Mtv was not involved with bonnaroo other than a couple of music video's they were doing for a couple bands and there was no intention for bonnaroo to change owner ship. There is now way that Mtv will ever be involved with the organization of bonnaroo" I was so releived that Mtv was not buying bonnaroo.
