So my only exposure to these guys before today were their covers of some great songs (Reptilia, Kid A, Rye Whiskey), but I started listening to their album that came out last year. This band is unbelievable. They take bluegrass instruments and even the old-school styles and completely make the genre fresh. They have jumped up pretty high on my to-see list.
Their show in 2010 was fantastic. Because they were first band to play that day in That Tent, they had a 20 or so minute soundcheck that was absolutely sublime.
I've been a Chris Thile fan since his Nickel Creek days. Dragged a bunch of friends who usually listen to DMB, KoL, etc to their set. It took the Reptilia cover to get them paying attention, but after that they all got really into the set and wound up checking out Steve Martin and some other bluegrass b/c of it. When Chris returned to the mic to shout "That was SO MUCH FUN" I couldn't have agreed more.
If you haven't had a chance to listen to the new album from these guys that came out last week, do it now. Amazing music. Here is the title track live:
I have not seen them since the Big Surprise tour several years ago with Dave and Gillian, and OCMS. They put on a hell of a show.
You sure that you're remembering correctly? Big Surprise (at least the one I went to) was Felice Brothers, Justin Townes Earle, and the two acts you listed. Possible they filled in or were added or something.

I cannot stop listening to their new album. You guys should be WAY more excited about seeing these guys than you currently are. So far, "Who's Feeling Young Now?" is EASILY my album of the year and I have a hard time imagining falling harder for anything else. Do whatever you have to do to listen to this album, then buy it, if you haven't already.

Yeah, the Big Surprise that I went to in Boston was OCMS, Felice Brothers, Dave and Gillian, and Justin Townes Earl. That was quite a fun show!
2012 shows: 3/23 - The Men 4/9 - Of Monsters & Men 4/21 - Bassnectar 5/2 - Shpongle 5/22 - Jack White 6/1 - tUnE-yArDs 6/7-6/10 - Bonnaroo 2012 6/18 - Destroyer 6/20 - The Tallest Man On Earth 6/23-6/24 - Governor's Ball
On their tour dates page they have June 7th listed.....thursday is loaded this year
This better not be true. I won't be able to arrive until Thursday night/Friday morning circa 1am. Lots of people iirc just list the first date, even if they're playing on Friday or Saturday.

I feel like Thursday is just a place holder, because they were at the farm in '10, and Thursday is usually newer bands. There are obviously exceptions to every rule (the Knux), but that's what it generally is.

I got mad love for these guys and they are one of the major factors in me deciding to Roo this year. IMO Antifogmatic is an epic masterpeice. I saw them here in Atlanta and those dudes brought it HARD to the stage. This is a must see act even if you don't like blue grass.

I had been delaying getting into these guys but since they're on the lineup I figured what better time than now. I knew I'd like them but now I can't wait to see their show.

This band has become one of my top 5 must sees. Their new album is just spectacular. The only thing I wonder is why I didn't discovered them earlier.

At the 2010 inforoo brunch, one dude who never posts anymore was puppydoggin' me and was annoying as all get-out, so I bailed and went to Centeroo and found The Punch Brothers (and a couple of british hotties). Right after me and these two girls decided to go find some food, they started playing Morning Bell and we all froze in our tracks.

I guess Sara Watkins will be there with Dawes. If only Sean would show up and we would have a Nickel Creek reunion (or a Nickel Creek) superjam. That would be amazing!
