I hadn't listened to them until I caught their set at Music Midtown. Lots of energy. They surprised a lot of people... played a sold out show the next night in Nashville. This will be a fun show.
edit: I couldn't find a YTG thread that already existed, so if you find it please lock this
Also saw them at Music Midtown. Fun show and a very easy listen. The frontman has a killer voice that makes up for the lack of great songwriting, in my opinion.
Caught them last year in a small venue here. Although I like them, I was still pleasantly surprised how much I like their show. Lead singer has a lot of enthusiasm, and they put on a great show.
Young the Giant - Our local radio sation here in LA (KROQ) puts on a great annual xmas concert called "Almost Acoustic Christmas". They have a revolving stage set up at the universal amphitheater and there are no breaks in between acts, it is constant music from 5:30pm until the headliner stops around 12:30. I scored an orchestra seat on ticketmaster last minute, my seat was great (5th row!) and Young the Giant was like the third band to come on. They played for a solid forty-five minutes and rocked the house. The vocals were stellar and the music had everybody off their feet. It was a great show. Blink 182 were headlining and when they came they started the show by saying "we just want to say thanks to kroq tonight we found our new favorite band, young the giant" and every body went crazzzyyyyy.
Young the Giant - Saw them at Midtown in Atlanta this fall. Chill bros making chill music. Fun for the whole family and the lead singer is a great frontman, but don't expect to go too crazy except when My Body comes on.
Would you say that if you're not really into their stuff it would be a good show or do you have to know the songs in order to enjoy the show? My wife loves them and I'm pretty sure I'll be in attendance even though I'm not a fan.
They have that Southern Cal beach feel to them with the extensive use of reverb and atmospheric sounds so it is pretty easy to get lost in the music regardless. I liked the album the few times I listened through it and enjoyed the set.
As I said, the lead singer is pretty engaging which makes the show fun. Someone had said that the crowd at the Feist show will be the most attractive of the weekend, but these guys will give her a run for the money. College girls will love these guys.
When I saw them at Music Midtown I had never even heard of them. I thoroughly enjoyed their show. That is rare for me to enjoy a show that much without knowing any of the music beforehand. They really stole the afternoon that day IMO. On the way home we immediately planned on seeing them again. Come to find out they had a Nashville show the next night and we got excited... until we saw it was already sold out. The album is okay, they are definitely better live than recorded. They need to record their next album with someone who can coax that live energy out of them... maybe even a live album.
