I was listening to my Roo playlist on random and this song came up.
It was the first time I've heard Railroad Earth and I've been listening to the song constantly for the past week. I haven't really liked any of their other songs though. Anybody know if they put on a good show? Can anyone recomend similar songs by them?

im addicted to jam bands. ive seen railroad earth a bunch of times but at all different kinds of venues, the last being one that held less than 1000 people. they put on a great show if its the kind of music your into, i know its not for everyone. sone of my favs by them are butterfly and the tree, bird in a house, mighty river
They were super awesome in '07. Even better than Keller, imo. Some of my favorites songs are Bird in a House, Smilin' Like a Buddha, Underneath the Stars, Said What You Mean, and Mighty River.
Can't wait for the show this year. They might be the band I'm most excited about from the bottom of the lineup

You have no idea how offensive some people would take you calling railroad earth a jam band. Actually, you probably do, if you saw the jam bands thread haha. Railroad earth is bad ass. Been down this road is one of my favorite songs from them.
I am so freakin' pumped for this set. Everything about happy/jammy bluegrass screams "gettin' down in a field with all of your best friends." And correct me if I'm wrong here, but that's pretty much what 'roo is all about.
They had a nice show at AG last year (too short in my opinion). Look forward to seeing them in May in a venue that only holds a 1,000. I def. will check them out at ROO. If not mentioned before check out "Long Way to Go" an upbeat song popular during last year's tour.
I'm not offended - but I think of RRE as an Americana band (part folk part bluegrass part Appalachian sprinkled with some rock riffs)

i usually choose not to participate is such nonsence... however i do feel confident in my decision to toss them into the jam category and defend that by pointing you in the direction of wikipedia. no its not a true dictionary but i am using them as a source of reference now
LSB:Being a band that plays hundreds of dates a year, and uses improvisation onstage each night, Railroad Earth often gets referred to as a “jam band”. How do you feel about the tag for the band, and as a general umbrella label for bands which fit those criteria?
TC: I’ve said this before, so this will kind of be reiterating other quotes from me, but it just holds true, and it just is what it is. I think the term “jam band” refers to the audience, more so than the band itself. Because, when you think about it, there are a lot of different styles of music that fit under that umbrella. For instance, we don’t sound anything like Umphrey’s McGee, who’s a fine band in their own right, but they’re referred to as a “jam band”. If they played back-to-back with us, there’s really no similarity. And there’s less similarity with them only because their music is so well-arranged and so constructed; our music is that as well, but we find certain songs where we can open up, explore, and improvise. A lot of our improvisations that we do are more of a group improvisation. The idea that you can have a conversation onstage. Kind of like the lost art of conversation, where someone listens as much as they talk.

whether or not they are a "jam band" I saw both of their sets at waka last year, and they definitely jam. their late night set was the coolest brand of psychedelic bluegrass I'd heard. They are really good at sounding good together, and not just one guy taking on a long solo. definitely gonna go see them this year.
