Really been into Phosphorescent's new album lately, which bears the absolutely insane title of Here's To Taking it Easy (Tho the Jaws of This World Wish Only to Grab Hold of Your Sweet Ass), or HTTIE (TTJOTWWOTGHOYSA). It also has some pretty incredible song titles ("It's Hard to Be Humble (When You're From Alabama)," "Nothing Was Stolen (Love Me Foolishly)," and "Heaven, Sittin' Down" among them). The music is great, too; has that kind of classic country-rock sound in the vein of Gram Parsons, although his voice isn't nearly as good as Parsons' was. I know several other inforoosters are into this record as well, so I figured it was deserving of a thread.
He'd be perfect for an afternoon or Thursday night tent set.
It will not happen, but ever since the first time I heard it I thought "Los Angeles" owed a heavy debt to Neil Young...how killer would it be if Neil stepped out to play guitar on that song? Roo is all about dreaming about this kind of thing

^ Are you getting a lot of attention nooooooooow (AHHHHHH, AHHHHHH, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH)
Fucking love "Los Angeles." And "Wolves." God, Matthew Houck is the man. Phosphorescent is one of my absolute favorite artists right now; absolutely cannot wait for his set.

His new album reminds me a lot of older MMJ somehow. Especially "Los Angeles." Except his voice isn't as good as Jim's (but I kinda like that about his voice).
I would have to say this guy is in my top five right now and really due to just listening to all of the artists in the line-up. I can't wait for his set!

I'm a little surprised more people in general aren't getting really excited about this one. I think a lot of people just haven't heard him yet; if and when they do, I know that they'll love it. I don't see how any fan of alt-country wouldn't just love his most recent album.
Back in the summer of '08, I had one of those surreal "epiphany" moments while listening to "Wolves" and driving the highway late at night through the Rocky Mountains.
So, Phosphorescent is definitely on my must-see list while at Roo.
