So me and a friend are graduating college this year and I am trying to convince him to treat himself to Bonnaroo as a graduation gift. I'm slowly working him down and he is on the verge of breaking. It would be great if y'all could help me come up with a list of reasons why Rossco needs to come to Bonnaroo!
Although this is not a list, I personally think 'Roo is unlike anything else. Farmland turns into a city whose inhabitants are all briefly gathered to have the best time of their lives. Everything is in excess: music, food of every kind, booze, art, and people. Throw in the great time of camping and you have Bonnaroo.
until you go there you just dont get it.but its pretty simple. do you want to just let loose of everything else for aweek.do you like music,do you like people,do you like to have fun?and after you go 1 time you will be drawn back there every year.
Go now. I'm an older rooster being in my 40's and so many people I know have always wanted to go but don't for any number of reasons. If your friend really likes music and can handle the heat I can't recommend it enough and I'm probably old enough to be his mom
Anyway, Bonnaroo is somethin' to be experienced. Before my first one I had been to over a hundred shows, drivin' hundreds of miles sometimes. But my first 'Roo was an amazin' four day concert event, campin' with some of my very best friends, gettin' into crazy adventures and stupid shit. It's my vacation to myself every year. I always get to go with a few best friends and then there's the people you meet there as your neighbors fer the weekend. I've heard stories of uncool people camped next to you, but I've always been lucky and had some of the best camp mates possible. Many of which I still keep up with today.
It is far and away the best concert environment you could imagine. Bands have a tendency to elevate their performance on the farm. Longer sets than any comparable other festival. Imagine a 2.5 hour Radiohead set with 75,000 other people. If you need any more reason than that, then you're crazy.
3/19 Portugal the Man 3/31 Japandroids 4/3 Alberta Cross/BRMC 5/1 White Rabbits 5/7 OK GO 5/14 Mumford and Sons 6/2 The National 6/10-13 Roo 8/21 MMJ and Tom Petty
Bonnaroo is DEPRESSING! It is so awesome that I actually go through a bout of hating everything not Roo afterwards. The end of Roo is pretty much the worst part of my year. After about a week I realize there are less than 51 weeks until the next one and the cycle begins again. What do you plan on doing after you graduate? Go straight into corporate world and then 30 years later it hits you that you haven't lived. Take some time off and freakin go to Roo. It is awesome. Congrats on the graduation. Mine is in December. So, excited about it.
Show him pictures of the farm from the air and point out that 1/2 of all the people down there are young beautiful intelligent ladies, all looking to have a great time. You don't have to tell him that it's usually way too hot to do anything but talk, but.....
Personally, I'd give him one chance, and if he didn't jump, I'd leave his unknowing butt at home, because I wouldn't want to have to deal with that all weekend, and certainly wouldn't want to be blamed for him having a bad time (and he will if he doesn't come with a good attitude).
Make this a celebration of your graduation....happy roo
It's a MASSIVE PARTY!! 70-80,000 people. Music from 12 in the afternoon to five in the morning. There's always something to do and people to meet. And pretty much 90% of the people you meet are just awesome. People are less selfish and more selfless. As I believe Jho once said, "Bonnaroo is a microcosm of what the world should be".

Oh no, don't get me wrong he wants to go. He just needs to find that right reason to let himself go. Which by the way, all of you have been fantastic help. I really feel like we have made some progress together. The Bonnaroo way!
