avett brothers last night for nye. they played 30 songs. great show.
I saw em the night before in Chattanooga. Finally got "Die Die Die".
I still haven't heard "If It's Beaches" live yet. The crowd and show was amazing and my son requested that I film a bit of "Die Die Die" which is his favorite song." Good people, good music, and a great trip.

I was juggling whether or not to drive out to Ft Lauderdale and pay $30+ to go see Galactic last night. Then I was browsing through a pamphlet for Miami Beach's Deco weekend and found there was a free show at the Clevelander (which is a few blocks from where I live) featuring Doug Wimbash and special guest big sam williams I had no idea who wimbish was , but recognized Big Sam Williams from being on the bonnaroo lineup with funky nation, so I decided to go check it out. I found out after the fact that wimbish is from "Living Colour", and is pretty much one of the most amazing funk bassists ever. Sam's trumpetting blew me the fuck away also.
It was a really intimate show, and I had a blast. While the show was amazing it's kind of unfortunate that it was wasted on a crowd of shallow plastic miami beach douches, and tourists. I'm pretty sure I was one of the only people there who had any idea at all of who was playing. and the dance floor was empty until about 90 min into their 2 hr set. Once the dance floor did get going shit got crazy though. Wimbish and Big Sam strutted onto the dancefloor and wimbish was pretty much guitar-fucking every girl on the floor. The energy was insane. I love galactic but I think I made a solid decision to stick with this show.

Dillinger was so awesome when I saw them in Asheville opening for Mastodon this fall. I wish Greg would've climbed into the rafters, but it was still ridiculous. I thought they nearly outdid Mastodon.

I got to see them when they were doing two shows opening for Every Time I Die (or All That Remains or As I Lay Dying, I didn't care or watch them). As soon as they started playing, it was wonderous to see the crowd split into two camps. In one camp, there was rabid appreciation for a good metal band playing in Knoxville. In the other camp, there was fear and confusion. A friend and I talked to Greg for a bit during the headliner by the merch table. Good times.
Caught JJ Grey and Mofro Saturday night...seen them many times before, first time catching them in my hometown. They were absolutely on fire. The crowd was amazing, even the douchebags were fun and good sports about me making fun of them. Highlight of the night was definitely JC Brookes and the Uptown Sound as the opener. Such a pleseant surprise and set the tone for one of the most fun nights Ive had in awhile.
Besides my wife, who was there, and my brothers, noone else in the world would appreciate this as much as you InfoRooers: (I am going to TRY to make this short because I am still freaking out!) Went to see Jeff Mangum tonight in DC at the Lincoln Theatre. Show was amazing; turned my wife, who was a NMH/Mangum virgin, into a fan. Had a bite to eat at Ben's Chili Bowl and started to head toward the metro station across the street. As we left Ben's, I stopped dead at the alley between it and the theatre. There he was, in all his Mangum-y glory speaking to a group of about 4 other fans. I approached carefully, as he looked like he would flee if he were spooked. With my newly purchased NMH poster clutched in my trembling hand, I thanked him for such an amazing show. (Will be going again tomorrow night, too!) He smiled a shy smile, reached for my poster, signed it and told me he would see me tomorrow . I am going to go take a xanax so I can sleep; Photobucket keeps saying my photo is moved or deleted... When I calm down and my brain works again, I will post the pic of my poster. Best. Day. EVER.
Edit: Crappy phone pic of the autographed part. Need to get this framed ASAP.

Just saw the Kills. Mostly an awesome show, although I could've done without a couple of their selections for the set (some of their newer poppier singles fall flat with me, but what can ya do...) Allison Mosshart just oozes sex appeal. Great stage presence from both of them; lots of energy They played a really great cover of "Cut you down" from Johnny Cash, and supposedly it was their first and only time they've played it

I drove eight hours to see Ryan Adams in Cincinnati this weekend. It was unbelievable. I was really skeptical about it being in a theatre, but he really pulled it off. The setlist was impeccable and his banter/improvisations were hilarious. ("Lair of the Minotaur" might have been the best part of the whole show.) Sadly, I couldn't see his current show working very well at festivals.
If he announces a southeastern leg, my bank account is going to be very unhappy with me.
Little late but on the 21st I saw G. love and Special Sauce in Nashville. Tickets were $20 and when I got there and looked at the merchandise booth there was a sign that said first 50 people to buy $10 worth of merchandise receive a bracelet to meet him after the show. I was like all the bracelets taken? They were like no I was like hook me up! got the "Lemonade" CD for $10 so I got to go to the show and get a signed CD for $30! I already had it but figured the autograph would look best on the cover. That is good value in this day and age! And he played lots of stuff like Johnny Cash and Paul Simon and the Beatles in addition to lots of his other songs.

I was at the show as well. Definitely a great time. Another funny thing he did was when people tried to start a clap along during one of the songs and he immediately slowed the song down for a few seconds to throw the clap off. Fucking hilarious.
Unfortunately I didn't find out about it until this morning, but unannounced last night, DJ Shadow was spinning 45s at a small, tucked away bar in Chicago.

I was there, too! I actually only drove two hours to go to this show, but I did drive seven hours to go to his Chicago show in December (my bank account is really depressed, but I am a liiiitle obsessed with DRA). Both shows were amazing, mind-blowing, awe-inspiring, hilarious events. He was actualy way wittier (more witty? My English degree is failing me) at the Cincy show, and I thought the setlist was better in Cincy, too. He focused on one girl who kept looking at her cell phone at the Chi show, which was funny, but changing up the comedy during the Cincy setlist was way more entertaining.
I agree that it wouldn't be a good show at a festival, but he could always do a non-acoustic set if he ended up on the farm? Maybe a little Cardinals reunion?? I reaaaally want it to happen, so I'm crossing my fingers

Until he gets his Meniere's under control, I don't think he's going to play anything besides acoustic theatre shows. We can still dream of a Cold Roses-era reunion though...

You have a really good point. I figured if he was playing shows again it must be under control, but I guess it would make sense that it only allows for low-key acoustic shows.

I saw the new incarnation of Guns and Roses at Terminal 5 the other night.
First off, it was my first time in NYC, and first time at T5. Holy Crap! I love T5, so jealous of the people who saw MMJ there last year.
Doors were at 9, show at 10, GNR at 11 was the schedule. It was more like doors 9, Show 1030, GNR 1145. So it was basically on time in my opinion.
The opening band, Chelsea Smiles, was pretty good if that is your music. The lead singer was hanging at the bar in the back during GNR and seemed like a cool dude, even though I didnt talk to him.
GNR.... poor poor GNR. Although they did not sound bad, they did not sound great. Each one of the members is a talented muscian, but they do not blend well together. Each of the three guitarists seem to come from a different background of rock music. The bass was too loud too. Axl. Poor poor Axl. He couldn't hit the high notes, he couldn't hit the low notes. There was so much reverb on the mic that he would have to sing about half the amount of time normally needed for the long notes.
He also made multiple MULTIPLE trips back stage during the guitar solos. I am assuming he was huffing an oxygen mask. Whatever he was doing they were good at keeping it a secret. They set up a hidden room off to the side of the stage where he would run into, and they would pull the curtain behind him to block anyone from seeing.
Glad I went, but overall, don't waste your money on this show.

.
Cocaine?
When i saw them in December he changed jackets and hats like 12 times, so i would guess that it was he most likely doing when he was backstage. But with axl you can't rule anything out. To be honest i was glad i went to the show. It was definitely a lot better than I expected (admittedly I had very low expectations).

I saw Mutemath tonight at House of Blues. Pretty good band. I don't/didn't know one song by them but went with friends. The band definitely brings energy to the stage, however in my personal opinion they are one of those bands you can listen to for an hour and then need a change. They played for two and a half hours, so I got a little bored at the end, but their fans loved every second of it. If you like them, I highly recommend it. If you kind of like them, go, it will be a good time.
Drake was so awesome this weekend. He had a really great band and tons of energy onstage. The production value of his setup was on point as well--we didn't have a great angle to see it all, but it was really huge and cool. He can hit all of the sung vocals in a live setting, which is really impressive, considering how much he is moving around and rapping. Definitely a showman. I'll see him again when I can.
ASAP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar were the openers, and though they played incredibly short sets (about five songs each), they were both really great. Kendrick Lamar will really shine at Bonnaroo. It would be nice to see him in that setting since, where we were, my girlfriend and I were the only two people dancing to his and ASAP's sets. We even heard people scoff and say something about sitting down. F*ck that.

I saw Flogging Molly last night, which was unsurprisingly fantastic. Great crowd, great pit, great openers (Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears and The Devil Makes Three.) It made me really proud to be Irish. They're going to kill it at Bonnaroo.
