Just wondering if anyone has knows much a headliner gets paid. I dont know if there has been any posting of this or if it has been reported.
I know that Coachella seems to do pretty good in getting bands out of retirement (Rage, Pixies, Jesus & Mary Chain, Bauhaus, Gang of Four, etc), and I figure that they are throwing a wad of cash at these bands, but other than Rage non of those bands were headliners, so it does not make that much sense.
Anyways, just thinking about ball park figures on what it would take for the Police to play at the Roo compared to what they would make playing their own arena show.
My guess would be that the headliners get in the vicinity of $500,000 to $750,000. But that seems high. If they get $150 a ticket for 80,000 people that is $12,000,000(Ballparking figures). I wonder how much of that goes as the talent budget? Half? A Quarter?
Didn't Morrissey say the Smiths got offered 5m or something to reunite for Coachella? Also, Radiohead got 1.2 million to play in 2004 at Coachella, so I would guess that headliners get somewhere from 750,000 to 1.5mil.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Yeah, that $150-$200 per ticket has to go to a bunch of different places and Superfly needs to make their fatty share as well. Nice pull on Radiohead getting $1.2 mil, Isaac. I did not know that. I wonder how much their price went up for Bonnaroo since they played for longer? Maybe, $1.5 mil.
I would think that the beer, merch, food they sell during the festival probably only pays for the employees working, security, and clean up crews for before and after the show. But I could be totally wrong about that.

i dont know man.. they sell alot of beer. and alot of ice. at a high price. and the food vendors pay 3000 for the spot and then pay 35 percent of the gross sales (not profits) to roo. the non food vendors only pay a 2000 fee for the spot. atleast thats how i remember it. thats alot of money. and alot of those workers are volunteers and only get paid a ticket and some food.

I know some promoters and some friends of mine have actually looked into booking some bigger acts. With a place the scale of Roo i would be the headliners get between 100-300k depending on the performer. An act like Radiohead might bet closer to 400-500k but definitely not much higher. I Know Umphrey's ballparks around 20-45k.

I was wondering about this too... not as much for the headliners but for the other acts. I bet a lot of the non-headliner bands would be willing to play for borderline free - the exposure at a fest like Roo is just too much to pass up. Roo has made a lot of careers over the years- MMJ wouldn't be nearly as big without their legendary Roo sets. Matisyahu would be an unknown. on and on.
