i disagree ... remember years ago when that movie "altered states" came out ... i did deprivation tanks for months and nothing bad at all came out of it .... it was also an interesting way to learn things ... they would show like skiing vids on how to ski and with your whole concentration being on that, it sort of ingrained in your brain ... loose a little sleep, get over it, you never catch up, but its something we all take much too seriously ... there are studies that say the reason we sleep like we do, was the cavemen had no light at night, and to get rid of the fear of night, they went to sleep .... i didnt eat for 30 days once, now that might have been bad, but i saw no long tern problems .... cr*****
Wow! At first I was caught very much by surprise at the number of people on our boards that have stayed up for several days in a row. Though after thinking it over, I suppose this is the sort of community that would hold us! Our ilk is one of free spirits and open minds (not neccesarily implying drug use or irresponsibility).
Woah! Do you know whether the two things were related or not? Everything that I've read has reported only temporary schizophrenia, paranoia and hallucinations at worse. But still, permanent damage is a little freaky! Maybe I have nothing to worry about, maybe I'm experiencing a little of that paranoia as a result of my now 61+ hours of utter consciousne- OH MY GOD A ZOMBIE PIRATE NINJA!!!
It's entirely possible that it was a stimulus for permanent schizophrenia. It never occurred to me until last year when I took a upper division course on the physiology of the brain and my professor gave a few lectures on permanent damage from sleep dep. I described what happened to my old friend and he said it sounded like a case study of a worse case scenario. The brain needs certain brain waves generated during the sleep cycle (circadian rhythm) and long term deprivation can, theoretically, f' you up pretty badly.
Yeah, psychedelics are also known to bring out recess gene psychological disorders such as schizophrenia (or atleast this is what i have heard from people who seem fairly qualified).
