So this will be my first Roo and have read loads about the Superjam and cant wait to experience it! But am wondering exactly how it goes down.....where, when, who? Do we know before hand whos involved or is it a suprise? Is it worth watching if it means missing a huge act you want to see? How long does it last? Who has been involved in past Roo's?
Thanks for all the help and cant wait to meet some of you this summer!!

Let's see if I can answer all your questions . . .
dopemusik said:
where?
For the past several years now it has been in a tent.
dopemusik said:
When?
Wait for the schedule to come out. The past two years its been latenight, but before that it was during the day on Sunday.
dopemusik said:
who?
I don't know, but let's hope Jack White is involved.

Last year they announced in advance that it would be John Paul Jones, Ben Harper, and ?uestlove. However, they probably did that just to tout the fact that JPJ would be at Bonnaroo (as he was otherwise not on the line-up). The year before that it was accidentally leaked onto the internet that Trey and Mike Gordon would be involved, but I don't think anybody knew Phil was going to sit in. So to answer your question, it is usually a surprise.

Yes.

Between 90 minutes and 3 Hours.

Just to name a few: John Paul Jones, Trey, Ben Harper, ?uestlove, Mike Gordon, Benevento/Russo, Herbie Hancock, and Robert Randolph.

Bela Fleck, Dr. John, Stanton Moore and Maceo Parker are also Superjam alums. It also has traditionally featured an artist who is otherwise not playing their own set at the festival (like Dr. John, Maceo and JPJ)
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

If your going to SuperJam get there early. It's in a tent with a stage sized crowd. And yes you will sacrifice a big-name show to see it, I had to miss part of SCI for it.
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

Les really would be an awesome add...
One thing to note: If the Superjam is indeed on Friday this year, Phil Lesh and Levon Helm won't be there...they're playing in Chicago that Friday night.

I've been mulling this over for a while now, and I think it's possible that they return Superjam to its daytime slot. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love having it at night, there is no better time for it. But at the same time, it doesn't really require that kind of timeslot. One of the great things about latenight is the ability for artists to have 2-4 hour sets, versus 1-2 hours during the day. If memory serves me correctly, last year's Superjam did even come close to exceeding two hours. The year before that (my memory is hazy), it probably got up to two hours, but not much more. My point being, these shows could easily be during the day; meanwhile, the latenight tent could be resrved for an artist (or artists) who will play beyond 2am.

Well, so far on Friday it's:
MMJ Disco Biscuits Tiesto (and most assume MSTRKRFT)
That leaves one tent open, possibly for the Superjam. Someone said in some post that Ghostland said they'd be playing at 2 AM, but that might not be the case. If it is true, do you guys think they would be put in the techno tent with Tiesto and MSTRKRFT or be part of a different set of shows in the open spot left?
Edit: And/Or, who else would fit there? !!! is on Friday, and I think they'd fit nicely in a late-night deal with Ghostland, but someone's still gotta play during the day, and it also seems like a little too much electronic music to be spread out.

I would say that at this point the other Friday latenight is most likely !!!/Ghostland or the Superjam, leaving the Saturday latenight to look like: Phil | Lupe/Talib | Sigur Roas | Randolph

Still the only things we know are latenight Phil Bisco Tiesto MMJ
and three of those are Friday so it os still pretty open for Superjam

I'm still holding out for a Sunday Superjam involving JPJ that morphs into Zeppelin closing out the festival. Jack Johnson banished to the Which stage. I know, I know...
