I don't think we are getting the glow in the dark tour. With Lollapalooza having Kanye in their lineup, and Lolla also having no dedicated late-night scene, do you think Lollapalooza is going to be graced with the glow in the dark tour? I don't. It sounds like it would take forever to set up, it would need to be extra dark, like a Roo late-night, etc.
Maybe we'll be getting glow in the dark lite, or glow in the dark diet. Maybe Kanye will bring some lights and such, but probably not the Jim Henson creatures and stuff. Or Kanye will blow us out of the water. Who knows?
Well I am still not sure, there are two bands we know are latenight Sat. already Phil, and either bisco or mmj. Last year we had three big sat latenight shows so who knows? I think Phil, Bisco, and Kanye have a different enough audience that they might balance latenight out. Unfortunatly if this happens I will not be going to Kanye. Since I am sure I am not the only one who feels this way I don't see him getting overcrowded.
Lolla doesn't have a dedicated late night scene, but the headlining sets are done in the dark. Daft Punk's set was unreal last year largely in part to the light show... Couple that with the amazing skyline, and you have pure win.

Sounds less like a conclusion and more like additional debate.
I don't think we'll know until the schedule comes out.
Well I honestly would place the kanye show (if it is latenight) as about the same size as Galactic last year and they were in a tent. I mean I bet 30 of the 80 thousand people will be at Phil's show, another 20 at bisco or tiesto, 10 thousand asleep, which leaves 20 at Kanye latenight which is the larger tent so logistically he can play latenight, but who knows. For some reason he just does not seem a good what stage closer before Pearl Jam. On the other hand People at Kanye are likely to leave after his show. This may make the Pearl Jam show easier to organize and prevent hardcore PJ fans from camping on good spots all afternoon.

The Kanye show will be much bigger than last year's Galactic show. I think Galactic was the most overlooked late night last year.
Well the tent was full, but latenight always splits up the crowd. I just do not think he will be bigger than galactic, or Super Jam, and they both fit fine in tents last year. If he plays a day show it will be the what stage hands down, but a night show? Everyone has different latenight priorities, and I think if you have 3 different bands from 3 different genres there will be plenty of room wherever he plays.
well, lolla has no latenight because its in the middle of a city. so there are laws and whatnot that would prevent such a thing from happening in a downtown park.
a non-glow kanye would be very underwhelming, imo. like others have said, daft punks set was *epic* at last year's lolla. but if it was at 3:30 in the afternoon...well... it would have been a good show, musically, but not amazing.

Once again, people are underestimating Kanye's draw. A large portion of Bonnaroo goers won't even know who Phil Lesh is, but EVERYONE knows Kanye's music. Wherever he does his set, it will be huge, by draw of name alone. That's not to say which is artistically better, it's just the fact that it isn't 80,000 jam band fans descending on TN. There's a lot more mainstream music fans than the people on this board remember. No way Kanye is in a tent.

Man that is such a flawed statement I dont know where to start, I would almost guarantee you more 'roo goers know The deads music better than Kanye. This is not some day festival with mainstream draw. Now its true it is not 80,000 jam band fans descending on the farm, but it is true that 50,000 of them are, Kanye would be fine in a tent.
Edit smite away dude it wont make Kanye more popular at 'roo, also if he is the biggest act today why is he not headlining ANY major fest this year

Am I reading that right? Did you really say that a large portion of Roo attendees won't know who Phil Quacking Lesh is? Phil Lesh, of The Grateful Dead. I believe that you are gravely mistaken. Have you been to Bonnaroo before?
I'd hazard an argument that most mainstream music fans wouldn't get anywhere near Bonnaroo b/c they'd only be interested in 1-2 acts on the lineup. Who'd pay $250 to see two bands and camp in the blistering heat for four days? Most attendees are square in the indie or jam band fan category, if we must categorize.
Kanye West is one of the biggest names in music right now. Like it or not, he has the ability to outdraw almost everyone on the lineup...including Lesh.
I think the flaw in this argument all along has been that people assume Bonnaroo draws the same demographics that it did 3-4 years ago. It's a much, much more mainstream festival now.
I'm not saying that people are going to a 4-day festival strictly for Kanye...but a massive chunk of the attendees will have interest in seeing him.
If Superfly knows enough to put Chris Rock on the mainstage instead of the Comedy Tent...surely they know that Kanye West in a tent won't work.

^^Look past the first five acts on the lineup and tell me that this is a mainstream festival. Granted it's bigger than before, so certainly more mainstream fans will be there, but the core audience is not the mainstream music fan. The core still makes up the majority.

If he was THAT big with the 'roo crowd he would be a headliner. Since all the late night which stage shows are spoken for you better hope he is in a tent or you are gonna see him during the day at 6:00 when you are getting hungry, and it is 120 in the shade, and you want to rest up for Pearl Jam. Plus it is hard to glow much in Tennessee at 6:00pm unless you are a southern Belle practicing the sweating alternative.
If he was THAT big with the 'roo crowd he would be a headliner.
... and if Phil Lesh was a bigger name than Kanye West, he would be higher than him on the lineup.
I didn't know whether Phil Lesh had been in the Grateful Dead or Phish until last year. I don't listen to jam or rap, but I definitely get the impression that Kanye is a bigger name than Phil-- not just in the general American population, but also in the festival-going demographic.

that someone doesn't know who Phil is makes me sad...
on so many levels.
same, and ive said it on these boards before but ill say it again, i have close friends who have no idea who he is.. or maybe they do now cuz i told them, but yeah
also i have a few random friends of friends and aqaintences who are going to roo this year for the first time, and probably didnt even flinch when they saw phils name but said to me more than once KANYE!!!!!!!! with major exceitment...
this is NOT to say that most of the bonnaroo crowd knows who phil is, however just like some of you dont care about kanye, some dont care about phil (i care about both actually. phil more obvs)
If he was THAT big with the 'roo crowd he would be a headliner.

And Jack Johnson is bigger than both
After this summer he will have been at 5 Bonnaroos 3 times as a headliner, I am pretty sure we all know who he is.

I would agree with most of this. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about music, and I had only heard Phil Lesh's name before reading into Bonnaroo. It's quite obvious that he's a Bonnaroo legend, but let's face it, most people know about Jerry Garcia and some know about Bob Wier, but that's about all they know about who was in the Grateful Dead. Maybe the people that have given him this legendary status mainly talk to people with similar interests or into the the jamband thing. Most of the people I know, however, would just give me a weird look if I mentioned Phil Lesh. And I hang out with mainly musicians and people that I would say know a lot about music.

before i was familiar with bonnaroo i had no idea who phil lesh was. i knew who the grateful dead were and i could even name some of the mbers, but phil wasn't one of them. he's only big in the jam scene. kanye is definitely a bigger/more popular name, no matter where you are. kanye is billed higher than phil, but to me that doesn't mean he is getting a bigger spot. phil is a roo vet and it has already been announced that he is playing late night on which stage. so pretty much kanye has to be in a tent late night if it's going to be glow in the dark.

Phil is a legend to those who know... maybe some people disregard the members of the Dead as "stoner hippies" and ignore them...
Mickey Hart has done fabulous things... do your musician friends look at you funny when you talk about him?
broaden your horizons... The Grateful Dead did more for the live music experience than what you think.
Well none of this changes the fact that Phil is on the which stage Sat night it has been announced. So if you want to see Glow in the Dark you better hope he is in a tent, because they are not doing a late night headliner on the what stage.

no one is trying to insult phil or the dead here when we say he's only big in the jam scene. it's just the simple truth.
hmm, im going to back the people who say "phil who".
i dont think its the majority of attendees, but its a mighty large percentage who will have no idea. the crowd gets younger and younger and the dead become a distant memory, musically speaking. i doubt there are many there who dont know the dead in some capacity - but to know the names of the members aside from jerry...
