I'm sure they would try. When Willie had to bow out in '04, they got Steve Winwood to fill in. The question is if NIN is on the same level as ABB... I think they may be a bit higher up, actually. Possibly headliner material (hey, bump JJ instead!). But they may also want to book an act that's similar in style as well as size. Just a couple thoughts.

So, ABB is probably gonna pull from Roo, as well? I heard about them having to cancel a whole month of shows in May, but I don't think we'd get NIN this year... possibly next year, most likely either a Friday headliner or a late night which stage...or wherever Kanye plays, this year.
NIN swapping with JJ would make me lmao... People would be PISSED. NIN closing out Bonnaroo instead of a traditional Roo act? Bonnaroo would riot, lol.
Good news! NIN is playing my town in august. I cant wait. Did anyone catch the "With Teeth" tour and see the visuals on the screen for "erasor" ? It blew my mind. If you didnt see it you can get the "Beside you in time" dvd.
NIN is sort of wishful thinking for this year. You basically have 4 headlining level acts this year anyway, plus Chris Rock. Five would be a bit much for one year's budget. Besides, as mentioned earlier, I don't think ABB fans would appreciate their favorite band being replaced by NIN...

Funny how people would be more accepted now... than two years ago.
I think a lot of this has to do with Reznor getting over himself and getting back to the music. Reznor in the 90s and Reznor now...two completely different things.
Back then, he annoyed me. Now he's dropped a lot of the earlier schtick and the baggage that went with it and seems more comfortable with his talent.
I can't really imagine him touring with groups like Bauhaus and TV on the Radio in the 90s...

Maybe you mean getting over his severe alcoholism.
The schtick was what other people pushed on him and what he kept going along with...the alleged heroin and other drug addictions...in reality, he was just a drunk.
Comeback artist of the decade, for sure. He was inches away from being irrelevant forever. Now he's making the record industry his bitch.
hmm, i guess i never thought of NIN as being particularly relevant these days. i still like them, for the most part, but alot of thier music - imho - was geared towards the alienated / depressed youth. there was a time i was a huge nin fan...but i guess im in a better place or something. its sort of how i feel about the smashing pumpkins.

At 31 and a fan for almost 20 years, I'm sure I've been an alienated, depressed youth- but not the WHOLE time since I'm a happy, married father now.
Sure his music is dark and introspective, but be careful not to stereotype too much. Last year's Year Zero album was decidedly political (even With Teeth had big political moments- like when Mtv wouldn't let him use a giant Bush photo for their award show so he dropped out).
You might dig the new one, Ghosts. After all there's no lyrics and it's all actually pretty trippy instrumentals that go from weird and heavy to airy and back...
I'd be remiss not to point out that many of NIN's openers have played Roo, most recently in Clutch, Saul and Dresden Dolls.
Plus, Trent's talked about doing an entire tour of the setup he used at Bridge School last year: him on piano and a quartet of strings. That'd be an interesting Roo evening...
NIN is too big to be an add. ABB is gonna make it. ...but IF they didn't, i think its likely Warren would come thru with a Mule set
^^ i've been thinking the same thing. i really want gov't mule to play this year. i have audio from their show last year. (how good was "since i been lovin you"?).
i'm sure that i'll catch'em at All Good, but i'd like to see'em at bonnaroo as well...

I dig NIN. I listen to "The Downward Spiral" a lot. But this new download "Ghosts" I got the free 8 or so tracks. I wasn't impressed. I mean it was alright but I'm not finding myself putting it back in my CD Player. It's like "meh."

I agree, but it's also dirt cheap. It's definitely not anything like a NIN studio album, just kinda feels like a fuckaround session, which is ok with me. When they're charging $10 for a double CD (he could have easily charged twice as much, and we would have bought it), and $5 for the complete download with album art, it's not so bad.

Right on. The price was definitely right, and I didn't hate it by any means, it was just kind of "uneventful"

that's more or less how I've felt about everything since Downward Spiral. Alright, but when I'm looking for a CD to listen to, The Fragile or With Teeth never come to mind.
Plus, I may take some flack for this, NIN bore me live. That's right, I said it. The video segment they did last tour just seemed to drag on and on. The first few songs were really good, lots of energy and so were the last few songs, but during the middle of the set, I just kinda sat there, waiting for something cool to happen
I thought the stupid "angsty kids who wanna kill them selves are mainly who listen to NIN" stigma was looooong gone.... guess not.
Oh well, I guess I don't know that much about myself, after all
that's what it was back in the day. look, i am/was a fan - im not looking at it as an outsider. i saw nin for the first time back in 94 and listened to them for a while before that. it's not like i only know about them from reading about them in Parade magazine or something.
for the most part, that stigma is there for all emb/industrial music fans. shit - didnt you used to have a skinny puppy avatar? i dont see why you're surprised at this...
i suppose i should have said "for me" on my original post. when i was all dark and gloomy, nin fit the emotional bill for me. now, i still listen to industrial music, but im not at all dark or gloomy.
i liked with teeth, because it wasnt the usual schtick. ill dl the new one later. it sounds interesting...

Yeah, I did, and you pm'ed me and complimented the avatar... I'm trying to say, I never was really dark and gloomy, I just liked (and to a certain extent) still do like the ebm/industrial stuff...
I just like the MUSIC. the attitude "attached" to it... not so much.
Karma though, as always, to a fellow ebm-head!
PS: Also, I don't personally know anyone who even remotely likes Skinny Puppy, so I really don't have a stereotype by which to go.
PPS: Year Zero is leagues better than With Teeth, imo.

basically anything my girlfriend tells me is good, ie. Ghosts. I go out of my way to not listen to it. Maybe because most of the music she has brought to me, was either;
1.Crap (Dont get me wrong John mayer can play the hell out of the guitar, but his lyrics are just fucking goofy.
or...
2. I had already liked it very much (Rage, Soundgarden, etc..)
or...
3. She has some retarded story that comes with the music. ("One time this guy and I were...etc etc...while he introduced me to this cd."
OR !RANT! 4. I have just blocked off every musical recommendation she has made to me because I feel like she is a leech. She just takes all the good music other guys, and myself have given her and sucks it all in and makes the next guy feel as though she is cool by saying how much she likes certain bands....
Examples from her new "FAVORITE BANDS"!!; Les Claypool, Bassnectar, STS9, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, Gov't Mule, Phish, etc.
I just dont want her using my coolness to whore herself out. End rant
