Is it just me, or do none of the announced acts seem to be a good fit here? (Spare me the "it's Metallica that's not the good fit" argument - we can't avoid it at this point) Mastodon, perhaps - but I highly doubt they'll be on What Stage in the pre-headliner slot.
Will it be someone who's already been announced that doesn't fit, but people will want to see anyhow? Will it be someone yet to be announced? If I had to guess along these lines, given that they've been rumored in years past, Queens of the Stone Age?
Nothing in the current line-up sticks out to me as fitting with Metallica, so I thought I'd bring it up for discussion.

ZPZ? Are they big enough though. Maybe M.I.A., and i hate to say it because i want them to get a latenight, but I could see Umphrey's doing it, that'd also make it convenient for someone from Metallica to come out and jam with them or vice versa.

Based on the schedule we've pieced together, Allmans are Saturday and Metallica Friday, so that won't work. I'd guess either Willie or the Raconteurs pre-Metallica.

Didn't even think to check that, scratch M.I.A., that was actually the most possible in my mind, guess not!
i think it will be a addittion that will pre headline for metallica but i could see Umphreys or Raconteurs with chris rock doin stand up before the preheadliner or after the preheadliner while they are kinnda settin up for metallica
Is Chris Rock really going to necessitate creating a whole new time slot? I think you could probably fit him in between a headliner & pre-headliner without adding too much time to the gap normally between sets. Just drop a curtain between him and the headliner stage set up and you should be good to go.
Raconteurs DO seem like the best bet to pre-headline. Willie is the best bet to close the Which Stage. This will be my biggest conflict of the festival. I might have to go with Willie though and bank on seeing Raconteurs play ACL this fall...
yeah i put my money on the raconteurs-- they are quite the draw and i wouldn't put it past mr. white to rip a metallica cover or two to warm up the crowd
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

well last year, the roots played before tool, if that tells you anything, my guess is either raconteurs, willie or chris rock, i'd like to see chris rock thrown in there as they're setting up for another band, i think there is an hour break in between bands on the what stage, plus all chris rock needs is a mic, so there shouldn't be any setting up for him at all, but i really hope there are 3 bands that play the what stage on friday and not 2, if chris rock is given a band slot which he shouldn't be, last year there was 3 bands, kings of leon>the roots>tool
mastodon is playing saturday, so cross them off yonder is playing sunday, so cross them off
i could see willie and raconteurs being a conflict on friday, seems to me that one will be metallica's preheadliner and the other will be the headliner on the which stage
I missed out on Raconteurs at Lolla06 because they were up against MMJ. I hope that's not the case at Bonnaroo, because I'd probably go with Willie if they overlap.
Willie was supposed to pre-headline in 04, so I'm sure he'll do the same this year.
